Art Challenge: The Balcony 2

I confess, this one was really easy for me. I'm letting our dresser and floor stand in for the reddish-brown tones here....I like the way the delicate silver sandals and the geometric blue and white pattern echo the whites and blues and also the bridge and balcony.

Conveniently, this happened to be the only thing I could have made myself wear today. It is very hot -- 33C or something today but felt like 43C with the humidity. Mind you, I am NOT complaining. This winter was so hard on me, and I am glorying in the summer heat, even with no AC. Mind you, I do have some new blisters. No shoes are safe in this weather if you're a dedicated walker. Sigh...

Anyway, this dress is by Comrags, a wonderful Canadian designer. I bought it last year. Very lightweight cotton like a seersucker -- doesn't show the wrinkles and is very cool because it is loose on the body. Sandals are on their third season. Earrings by Nickel and Suede. Artisan bracelet, ring from Iceland.

You look gorgeous - as usual ;) I love Comrags too - this dress is perfect on you . No idea what the art challenge is but this is a great look. We’re having similar temps and I’m slowly dying .....even with AC .

Amazing! I love the silver accents and they are perfect with the dress.

Thanks, Lisa and Becky. Lisa, this is Sally's July challenge. I like these art challenges because sometimes they encourage me to try new combinations. Not this time, though -- this was tried and true blue!

Oooh great dress Suz! I find the business of the pattern just as calming and a large swathe of color, but then I am on Team Pattern; the hem of course also echoes the water feel nicely. What are those fabulous earrings and do they come in gold? :D

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Aida, thanks, and yes, you're right -- the hem is wavy!

And the earrings do indeed come in gold and many other colours! Here they are: https://www.nickelandsuede.com.....#038;Color

Inge featured the woman who owns this company once and a few of us linked to her site and bought the earrings. I got several pairs in different shapes and colours and I adore them in summer because they are lightweight yet make a statement and do not feel hot. She also makes nice leather cuffs and various other items.

Oooh thanks for the link! I don't think I've ever seen earrings for sale with a "pick a size" option ;) What size did you get? I think I would probably need the L or else my hair will eat it.....

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Mine are medium, I think. LisaP got them too. I can look it up -- give me a sec.

ETA -- yes, medium. I think medium would probably work for you also. They are quite big. Though maybe large for this shape, medium if you get the teardrop shape?

  • Aida replied 5 years ago

Ok thanks! The L teardrop looks quite a lot larger than the L of this shape, doesn't it. I think I'll measure against some of my other pairs when I get home. Thread hijack over, sorry!

    Fantastic outfit!

The dress is perfect for the weather and the challenge- I am pleased you had a chance to wear such a great piece!  The dress does evoke the sea and the wind and water.

I had two pairs of the Nickel and Suede earrings but I did manage to damage one pair - I must get the remaining pair out.  They are fun to wear!!

Oh Suz, this outfit is breathtakingly beautiful! I am speechless.. You look amazing. Wonderful reference to the painting. You are sooo talented.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Gorgeous! A perfect dress for the challenge and for hot weather. I hope it cools off at night for you. Wet-feeling sheets on a hot night are the worst.

Gorgeous Suz! This dress is really wonderful on you . I love silver sandals echo your hair. Easy and excellent outfit for hot summer days. Enjoy!

Lovely! The blue painting made me think of you immediately :). I want to try an interpretation of it with my winter wardrobe as it contains richer blues and I could include black for depth. All of that is covered in your amazing dress already and you still look summery!

  • Brooklyn replied 5 years ago

You look beautiful. I love that dress.

  • rachylou replied 5 years ago

I think you captured the floaty feeling to perfection :)

  • replied 5 years ago

OMG.  You have never looked more beautiful!!!!!!!   And yes, you captured the very essence of the painting.

  • Jenni NZ replied 5 years ago

The pattern is so lovely, it is just like the balcony!

  • Karie replied 5 years ago

Sweet sister, what a gorgeous dress! It looks nice and cool for this ultra hot weather we’re having. Goes perfectly with the painting too.

  • lyn67 replied 5 years ago

  • JAileen replied 5 years ago

    Gorgeous outfit.

We got to 97 yesterday. :(

  • Christina F. replied 5 years ago

As usual, you look stunning, and elegant for the heat to boot.

  • Thistle replied 5 years ago

So beautiful!  You look fabulously cool despite such horrible heat.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

It's amazing how cooling blue is! At least it rests the eye. Today is not quite so bad -- 28C, and the humidity is a bit lower. But tomorrow it's going to rise again to 32C with humidity....

You look like an art work!and what a lovely dress for the heat .

  • 3style replied 5 years ago

Lovely outfit and.... I was just looking for an opening to ask you how you decide what an appropriate level of blistering in sandals might be. I was trying a new pair around the house this morning and loving the fit, and then lo and behold, it started to chafe pretty hard on my right big toe. I nearly never get chafing and I walk a lot. I’m inexperienced at judging what is normal, since I so rarely achieve perfect sandal fit, and mostly settle for a touch larger than I would like.

ADORE this dress on you. This is the standard to which all your other dresses should have to meet. And I adore Comrags too - such thoughtfully designed pieces. I have a very few in my closet that I reach for again and again...

What a lovely, breezy dress. And the silver adds another cooling factor -- visually, at least!
