Booties at last!

You know my saga about the unworn booties sitting in my closet. I  bought five pair this year [cough, blush, count them]. Yes, five. In my defence, these were replacements for older worn ones.

Two of these proved rugged enough for at least occasional street wear in late fall/ winter on my horrid slushy icy snowy streets (at least on plowed days when I was not walking far).

But three pair were simply unwearable except indoors. And I did not get a chance to wear the white ones even once -- despite a super high comfort factor on these.

Well, people, I am here to tell you, it is spring!! Still grey, still no green, still chilly -- but no slush, snow, or sleet in sight. I wore these today to the dentist of all places and already got three compliments!

Nothing special about the outfit except fun footwear!! Yay!!!

Very nice outfit! I love the boots' pointiness.

    I'm actually considering sandals today..

  • columbine(erin) replied 7 years ago

Yay! I hope to buy booties sometime this year. I'll be looking to you for inspiration.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Forgot to add the other purchases. The two I wore regularly were the Aquatalias (which require another post) and the Eccos, which are a bit higher in the shaft, and that proved useful.

The ones I rarely wore were the Topshop red (6 or 7 wears in fall) and silver (2 indoor wears), and these CKs, which are only coming out for the first time today.

  • Sal replied 7 years ago

I see you are going to have a fun spring with your booties Suz!!

  • Inge replied 7 years ago

Brilliant that you finally get to wear booties again, Suz, your Winters are just so long, sigh. And they are beauties indeed! Perfect with this jeans and striped top look (love the pattern mixing with the scarf). And your hair is looking extra gorgeous too.

    Enjoy the milder Spring weather!

  • abc replied 7 years ago

Well of course I love the classic striped top, scarf and those fab booties!  Glad you're getting them out, finally.

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

    KILLER

You look beautiful, Suz. Enjoy your fun bootie time, and much love to you.

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

LOVING the texture of your hair. It's sublime.

  • harmonica replied 7 years ago

Stunning! Of course you got compliments, you look your best! Great to bring out the spring items, right? I just changed up my coats and footwear. Still only -1 to 4 celsius, but no snow or ice. :-) I'm so done with winter coats and footwear now and thermal socks do the trick for keeping feet warm in booties and sneaks.

  • Karie replied 7 years ago

The white booties look gorgeous! We've still got snow, slush, and wet weather, so no white shoes for me just yet.

  • Runcarla replied 7 years ago

How great you look. You must take the red and silver booties out to play as well.

  • replied 7 years ago

Oooo - I love this !  You look fantastic, as always.  I'm full on into spring here too - and have to shake my head at those still creeping around in black wool coats.  You will not likely freeze to death people - live a little !

  • shedev replied 7 years ago

    Great boots.

  • viva replied 7 years ago

So cute!!! I'm so far from being able to wear cute shoes! It's mud season in Maine. April is indeed the cruelest month.

Love this outfit head to toe.

  • Mochi replied 7 years ago

Oh, you look so crisp, bright, chic and spring-y! I love those white booties on you. And everything else.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Thank you all so much and Angie & Inge, thanks for the kind compliments on my hair. I am 100% happy with the grey and getting used to dressing for it.

Angie, you had these booties, too (maybe still do) and you are right that they are comfy! I should get a lot of wear out of them in the next couple of months.

Wishing real spring weather to those in upstate NY and Maine very soon. It's not really here yet, either, but at least it's not totally gross. I'm with LisaP -- at least people could get out of their black coats, right?

  • MTBGirl replied 7 years ago

You look fab Suz! Well you know I love it !- I have worn the same outfit with a similar scarf - but not with the Narlas yet - usually the Eccos. So happy you get to enjoy your bootie season now!

  • CocoLion replied 7 years ago

Love the stripes!  After reading Angie' striped top post, I went out and bought myself another striped top.  I wish I could pull off the cropped jeans the way you do, such a good look for you.

  • dakotacheryl replied 7 years ago

    Super cute!!

I had to scrape the snow/ice off of my windshield this morning...grrrr

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

It's amazing how white boots make an outfit stand out, where you could usually wear black boots and it would be just fine but not exciting.   I have worn my white boots occasionally this winter, when I thought there would not be any chance of slipping.

I'm really sick of my waterproof shearling moto boots at this point, though, because I have worn them sooo many times this winter and last.

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

Suz, YES. I have those boots, and wear them a little less now because of the higher heel height and my changing feet. They are fab with my bell bottoms. I wear the Logan booties ALOT more because they're under two inches. (More like 1.5 inches - my favourite heel height).

I also have the white Zara booties, but will probably pass them on soon - they have also become too high.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

I noticed these white boots recently ... high in style and low of heel.

  • Elizabeth P replied 7 years ago

    J E A L O U S !!!

I wore a black puffer today.  It was supposed to snow... but the snow didn't quite make it to us, I heard 10 cm an hour away though.  And the wind was COLD.  Tomorrow and Friday is a ton of rain, hopefully to wash away the remaining snow (yup, still have lots on the ground), then temps heading up to double digits next week.  So I'm hoping beyond hope that that's it for winter, and the booties can come out.  So many booties, so little time...

    But enough about the weather.

You look AWESOME.  The white boots really do add a spark to an outfit.

I'm also laughing a bit at the specifics of the outfit.  I could copy you exactly, if you dumped the scarf, swapped out the boots, and wasn't fussy about the colour of the bag.  This stuff is all in my closet.

  • Penny replied 7 years ago

What a chic look! Very glad you're getting a chance to enjoy your booties.

  • replied 7 years ago

Your boots looks so sharp and as Ummlila says, really make the outfit stand out.

I did order these boots but found they really needed another bright in the outfit and I don't have many brights so I passed.

  • Author Linda replied 7 years ago

Love the outfit! The white booties are perfect. Wish I had some after seeing this post.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Smittie, I agree -- even with my grey hair, I like these booties best with a white item elsewhere in the outfit to bookend. In spring that is easy for me because I wear a lot of white .

Elizabeth, laughing so hard! We are virtual twins, down to the grey hair!

Lisa, those white boots look right up Angie's alley! Great find. And I hear you on the shearling boots. Enough already!!

Angie, I really like the Logans, also, but already had bought these ones when the Logans came out. And I figured if I wasn't wearing one white bootie, I would hardly wear two. (Actually -- I have a lower heeled white bootie from Israel already, my Imeldas, which have only had a few wears!!) The truth is, when I move to a more temperate climate, I'll be wearing white and light grey/ silver booties/ shoes/ sandals for a good portion of the year. I have learned so much from watching your bookending tricks and it is such a great way to bring cohesion to an outfit. My hair is not truly bookended by white -- but white flatters me much more than it did when my hair was dark blonde (esp. with darker elements for contrast) which means I am wearing more white solids and more patterns that incorporate white; in fact, I'd go so far as to say that if a pattern does not include white or grey, it's almost not worth looking at any more. This means I have a lot of scope to add white footwear for balancing. Yay!! I love the freshness it brings.

For me, the 2 inch height is perfect -- that is part of what makes the CKs super good for me. I also sized up a half size (to a 7 vs. 6.5) because that way I can wear them with a thicker sock or insole if I want. At 7, they are on the loose and slightly long side. It's always a trade off for me. 6.5 North American is just barely on the edge of too small whereas 37 is perfect.

  • Sveta replied 7 years ago

Suz, they look awesome and comfortable to boot :-)
You should wear them more often - sleet or not. They will brighten the gloomy cold days. As long as they are not slippery and soaking through with the weather - please wear them for me more often! :-)

  • Jaime replied 7 years ago

They look so good with your hair. And I am so glad I am getting a haircut today!

  • Nadya replied 7 years ago

Hurray for spring and new shoes coming out to play!

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Fabulous outfit. I want the whole outfit!
I also bought 5 pair of booties this fall plus got more wear out of the ones I had not worn much. Dark brown, tan, pewter, dark grey and medium grey. The last 2 are waterproof and we just got 5 inches of new snow. I have worn the brown and tan only a couple of times but am glad to have them. The pewter get worn the most. Next fall I will probably need to replace black and would like to add a true white. I have been wearing the SE Petty booties from last year in both bone and putty a lot, as well as the snake version. You need cream/ grey snake for bookending too.

  • Mirjana replied 7 years ago

I don't think nothing special about the outfit, yes special, this booties are fantastic and make the outfit to be so gorgeous. I love the white booties and they are on my list of buying. You look extraordinary, Suz.

  • Summer replied 7 years ago

I have to disagree, Suz.  There is always something special about your outfits, this one included.

Your booties are lovely, and I'm glad you now have the chance to wear them.

  • Chris987 replied 7 years ago

To follow on to what Summer said....your version of "nothing special about this outfit" is pretty fab Suz! Love all the elements of your outfit! That particular striped top is really nice, I remember seeing it all over YLF last spring when I first joined. Maybe BR or some other company will come out with something similar this year - I'd love to have a top like this.

We still have snow on the ground here and there and in parking lot piles....and buckets of rain a few days ago with more to come, but it's still feeling like spring. I'm wearing these new grey booties a lot already, despite the fact that perforations make them fell a bit cool for early spring.

LisaP love your comment about let's get out of our black coats!

  • Jenni NZ replied 7 years ago

The whole outfit looks amazing. Love your hair Suz. The change in texture is interesting with greying, I'm finding mine holding its pixie shape ( when quite short, first 2-3 weeks after a cut) really easily without product. Since I'm so lazy on hair this is great. Happy for you you can wear those lovely booties!

  • Sisi replied 7 years ago

You look fab as always, Suz, and those booties are really pretty! I'm happy that you finally feel Spring in the air ... I know how long your Winter is!

  • Style Fan replied 7 years ago

Your outfit looks pretty special to me Suz.  Love the white booties with your hair.  Great bookending.

  • Bijou replied 7 years ago

Yay the booties are back in business! Your outfit looks amazing to me too.

  • Jane replied 7 years ago

Gorgeous! Love the white booties with the stripes! Hip Hooray for Spring!

  • RobinF replied 7 years ago

This looks great! The boots are just the pop to finish it off. Snow here today but it's supposed to be nice this weekend. I've been wearing my booties (dark colors though) all winter and am eagerly awaiting sandal weather!

  • Sara L. replied 7 years ago

Great outfit!  I love the white booties.  I also really like the striped top with the different directions of stripes.

  • replied 7 years ago

Great that the booties finally got some play - super outfit!

  • Marilyn replied 7 years ago

Fantastic outfit, Suz.  The booties really pop and are a perfect addition to that outfit.  Yay for spring like weather.  I plan to break out the R&B gillet soon as well. :)

  • texstyle replied 7 years ago

Love those booties!  I didn't even wear mine once this winter - but for the opposite reason, it was really either too warm or I was hiking and had to opt for the hiking boots.

  • rachylou replied 7 years ago

    Nice!

Can I say I woke up today and it was raining after unseasonable high temps all last week?! And I just put away all my winter clothes!!

  • replied 7 years ago

I want to echo what everyone said about your outfits never being "nothing special."  You always look fabulous.  But looking fabulous is nothing.  Being kind and generous of spirit, NOW that is something really special.  You are special, Suz.

  • replied 7 years ago

    Very sharp, and very you.

  • Gail replied 7 years ago

I love your outfit and it looks very special to me ! Glad you are able to wear the booties  its always nice to wear something different. Here in PA today it is torential rain and  quite chilly, we were spoilt yesterday with a nice day. Hopefully it will settle soon and I can wear something other than weatherproof booties !

  • kerry replied 7 years ago

I'm with you on celebrating the return of spring weather - however fleeting it may turn out to be. Did you get the snow yesterday? Ugh! But gorgeous today and the next few - bootie-time it is!

We're top twins. I tucked it away last year so I could bring it out fresh for spring. I'm trying to keep certain colours/patterns, silhouettes and colour combos for specific season. Do you only wear this top spring/summer?

  • unfrumped replied 7 years ago

So glad you're getting to wear them. Good things come to those who wait!

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Kerry, we DID get the snow. UGH!!! Horrid. No white booties yesterday. In fact, I couldn't even bring myself to go for my usual walk. Got around the block and went home.

I do save this top (and my other Bretons) for spring/ summer/ fall. It's not warm enough for me in winter. This particular one I wear mostly in spring because it's too heavy for summer and a bit "stiff" for a summer sweater in AC  (for me). My other Bretons from LL Bean are lighter and more fluid so they work as cover ups.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

You look fantastic in that outfit, Suz, and the booties are the icing on the (upside-down?) cake! (maybe not the most apt metaphor.)

  • Aquamarine replied 7 years ago

Perfect outfit for early spring in cold climates!

  • Maneera replied 7 years ago

Great outfit! I still LOVE that bag <3

  • Beth Ann replied 7 years ago

Woohoo for spring booties!  You look terrific.  I suspect that these booties will get worn often until summer comes to stay.  Love the way they brighten the outfit (and I agree that you look terrific!).

  • lyn67 replied 7 years ago

Wow, wow, wow! How could you not get compliments on the white booties, they are such a pristine and crips look, elevating any "nothing new" outfit! Enjoy your much wanted white bootie time, they are gorgeous!

And, as others said already, your hair is fab, indeed!!!!! :-)

  • krishnidoux replied 7 years ago

Very lovely and the white footwear suits you and the rest of your style so well. It makes for a very cute figure. I hope you can wear them more outside as spring settles in. They announce warmer and dryer weather this week, so let's hope you'll be exploring your footwear options! Maybe you'll find you can wear the other three pairs more.

I am so with you about not being able to wear some pairs of booties as much as I would like to in the winter with my winter wardrobe. This is truly due to our climate. We just went through the worst part of it too, so it's normal to feel some style frustration at this point. There are many items in my closet that I didn't wear enough simply because of lack of footwear options back when it was snowy/slushy/ugly/b-cold. Of course I wear the booties and shoes inside, but even so, sometimes I am not inside one given place long enough to justify changing footwear not to mention the trouble of carrying them around, on top of everything else someone has to carry when forced to live indoors, and all this maneuvering happening while wearing extra-thick movement restricting outdoor winter gear. Huh. Glad it's over now! Congratulations on your first spring look, and let there be many more!

  • Lisa replied 7 years ago

Yay, you finally get to wear your booties!  I've had the same issue this year, having to wait til spring to wear my booties paired with boyfriend jeans.

  • Cerinda replied 7 years ago

Nope: definitely a special outfit!  Enjoy your spring!
