BR Faux suede pant -- seen in person?

So, all you leggings ladies and texture loving mavens are encouraging me to try leather look leggings or pants and/or suede.

My thighs do not profit from anything shiny upon them. So I thought I might look for suede. I am considering these pants. But reviews are very mixed.

Anyone seen in person? I plan to place a "little" order from BR today.

Oh -- and which of these cream sweaters do you like better? There's no harm in ordering both, I guess -- returns are easy.

Can't say anything about the pants, but I like the second sweater better. The tunic length just looks too long to my eye.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thanks, Alexandra. Oh, and stayed tuned for an upcoming Kibbe category musing post, thanks to you.  ;)

I like first sweater better. Wtih the zipper detail, it is more on trend and makes a bigger statement. Hope you get lucky with these pants.
have you tried leather bottoms with tunic length tops?

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Mona, I haven't really...but I don't know. I have a pair of coated jeans and I never really like the look of them on me. Too "sausage casing" -- you know?

  • Kristin SF replied 9 years ago

I did try on the suede pants in store, and I thought they ran small. Normally I'm a 27P, I could barely get the 27P up over my legs. I didn't even bother to try the size up, since I thought the 28P would be too sausage casing-like, as well.

I did think the suede felt soft and they intrigued me on the hanger, which is why they followed me into the dressing room!

Sorry I can't offer more insight, but at least I can confirm the sizing definitely runs small. Maybe you could try both sizes up, to give you options?

Also, I didn't try on the zip sweater, but I tried on a different zip sweater, and I wasn't impressed by the way the zipper sort of rolled and waved along the side of the sweater. The sweater I tried is below. Your cream sweater might be better made. I'm wondering if the J.Crew side zip sweaters might have straighter zippers...? However, I can't speak to the J.Crew options since I haven't tried in person.

Good luck! Great sale on today for cardholders!

Suz - I suspect these would be sausage casing too unless you really (I mean really) size up ;)

Have you checked Zara lately for trousers?

    http://www.zara.com/ae/en/woma.....08039.html

I know this is not your question ... But you know ..... just enabling ;)

ETA: In sweaters I think the first one could look lovely on your body type with skinnies or your coated jeans.

  • Sara L. replied 9 years ago

Are you looking for a longer sweater to wear with the new suede pants?  In that case, I think I like the first one better.

  • Kristin SF replied 9 years ago

BTW I know you are avoiding shiny pants, but I tried on these in store as well, and they fit so much better. Much more true to size, but not terribly tight. I love the brown color, especially with a cream sweater. And would be especially flattering with your coloring.

You could try your regular size, and a size up.

    Just a thought! :-)

  • replied 9 years ago

I tried them on too - and could not even get into my usual size. Same experience as Kristin. The fit was so off, I didn't even bother to keep trying and they were clearly going to be an unflattering pant.  There is zero stretch in the fabric, which is soft and lovely, but completely wrong for this type of pant.  BR is so incredibly inconsistent in quality and fit .

I too have both of those sweaters on my list to try on next time I'm in the store .

  • Astrid replied 9 years ago

No idea about the pants, but I prefer the second sweater by far.

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

I will third BR's wonky fit - just returned two different pants. Love the idea of suede for you though.

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

    Btw I highly recommend these:

They are thick and not legging-like at all. The brand seems really good and the control top is not at all constricting, more just secure.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Suz, I have seen both sweaters in the store yesterday and did not like them enough even to try on. They are cotton blend and not wool so not very warm - and they are very heavy! I think JCrew knitwear is much better for the similar price.

  • replied 9 years ago

Another vote for the second sweater too! I just mentioned on on the thread Inge started this morning and have wantsies :)

  • replied 9 years ago

Ah, just saw Sveta's reply. Oh well... good to know.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Hmm, comments are interesting so far. I've got it on my list to peek at the coated ones that KristinSF refers to, and that Angie mentioned in her "olive" post. I've had a hankering for some mixed media type leggings/jeggings for winter (despite the fact that I rarely wear leggings). I like what Una has linked. I've tried on so many that my head spins. I'm pretty specific about how I want them to look. That's why I think this might be tricky for you for ordering online - but hey if you're ordering a bunch of things then what the heck. OK, so I've come full circle and given you 0 useful advice ;) :)

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

You guys are the best. Thank you!

Jackie, I know! I wish I lived in a place where I could actually finger the merchandise, and as for leggings, that is even more important. I mean, seriously -- how can you buy an item you don't really like on yourself without at least trying it on?

I do think the suede pants are a no. Too bad. Sounds as if they would have had a lot of takers for these pants if they'd been well made.

Sveta, I have a similar feeling about the quality of BR knits. I ordered a bunch earlier in the year and sent all but one back. But J. Crew is sadly out of sizes and/ or colours in the styles I like, plus the sale is no longer on for regular priced items so they are more expensive  -- I have a good coupon for BR today. Can get BR picks at 35% discount.

I might order one of those cream sweaters anyway. I don't mind cotton for fall and spring or if I am layering over a shirt. You are right that it can feel very heavy, though. Hmmm. More to ponder.

Kristin, Lisa, I really value your experience! You saved me from a big disappointment. And Kristin, it sounds as if the sateen pants are a lot nicer. Thank you.

Suz, I tried on the second sweater last week and did not like the mock turtleneck.  It hit just below my chin and  stuck out and away from my neck and just looked odd.  It looks really lovely on the model but she has a much longer neck than I do.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thanks, Dianne -- good to know. I have a pretty long neck so I'm usually okay with higher necklines, but I understand there is nothing more annoying than a collar that keeps bumping your chin. ;)

  • thimblelina replied 9 years ago

I like the first sweater. My niece was wearing an olive cashmere last weekend with that same sort of hip detail & it was extremely cute & flattering.

  • abc replied 9 years ago

I second Unas rec for the Nordies leggings (lysee - sp). I got two pair at NAS - one by Hue in a suede finish and another by lysee. The lysee ones were superb in fabric and fit, una is right, they have the waist area slash control top thing all figured out. They don't sag or stretch during wear like the hue ones do. I don't find myself tugging at them at all like I do with the hue ones. Anyway if you are interested in leggings I would say give that brand a chance. Plus they seem to have various styles and fabric options. Good luck and keep us posted.

Suz, I tried the first sweater on last weekend and it was fine but for me (and to DD) nothing special. It is heavy (I would worry a bit about the challenge of washing and drying it). It did fit well and it's a very nice knit, on the positive side. But it's a lot of knit and it looked and felt somewhat overwhelmingly conservative on, I'm not sure how else to describe it -- even with the zipper detail. It wasn't quite enough to make it look modern. Now, I wasn't really styling it -- so perhaps it has more potential that I was willing to acknowledge. But I just left it behind.I think it might swallow you up, as you are so much tinier than I am.

Also, I have and wear Lysee leggings -- they are the only leggings I will wear as pants, with a longer top. They live somewhere in between cotton leggings and ponte pants. Very comfy and very well made.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thanks, all. I ended up placing an order for completely different items than I had first intended! I ordered some flannel checked shirts, a pair of pants (not the suede ones) and...wait for it -- skirts and dresses!! We shall see how this pans out.

Note: those skirts will presumably be much longer on me than on the models.

  • replied 9 years ago

I'll be interested to hear what you think of the skirts and dresses. I look at them each time I'm in our BR here because they are so cute on the mannequin , but they are too intimidatingly body-con for me.  Very thin jersey too.  Cute, but waaaay out of my comfort zone.  I love the look of them, and if I were 20 lbs thinner.....

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Always an adventure, Suz. I'm excited to hear the verdict on these pieces. xo

  • Carole replied 9 years ago

Great choices, Suz! Can't wait to see you model. That stirred draped dress is something I've been eyeing, but just don't need any more dresses:( Seems like a great versatile dress and love the other pieces, too. Nice color palette!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Wow Suz those look like pieces with great potential! Can't wait to hear how they work out. I'm going to be at a mall today so might take a pass through BR to have a look. I happened to pop into the BR Factory outlet yesterday afternoon while I was waiting for DS' hockey game to start, and saw the suede-look leggings. Actually, they were right beside the pleather front/pont back ones that I was interested in trying on (but didn't have enough time for). I picked them up, and they certainly looked TINY as others have mentioned. I think you were right to take a pass on those. Look forward to seeing how these items work out. Especially love the looks of that plaid cranberry shirt....

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thanks, all. Lisa, these may be too body con and flimsy for me, too -- we shall see. Reviews say the fabric is thicker/ heavier than it first appears and disguises bumps and lumps. Luckily, returns are free! :)

  • replied 9 years ago

I'm projecting my own insecurities and style envy - and must stop.  :)  You'll look like a million bucks - they are super cute pieces.

  • chadya replied 9 years ago

Hi I tried those pants on
the + the fabric is wonderful, it looks and feels like real thin expensive suede, the price is good for what you are getting.
the -  they are really long, the model in the picture is just under 6 feet and I am 5 3" and there is no way to hem them as the ankle is slightly gathered.
    :-(
