Claire: Clearly Fab to the Max

We all know that Claire is beautiful, thoughtful, witty, thrifty, a brilliant bargain-hunter, clever, kind, a superb writer, stylish beyond imagination, and the best closet curator this forum has ever known.

Well, she is also beyond generous.

Look what she sent me: Her Brooks Brothers button down!

She said it was a bit short in the body for her and she is favouring silks these days.

It came today, and it's gorgeous! The other nice thing is that it does not duplicate my other non-iron BB button down. My other one is crisp, optic white. This one is softer and a winter white or ivory. Plus, it has French cuffs. The fabric is a very fine tone on tone herringbone pattern.

It is the perfect length for me (two inches shorter than Claire). The sleeves are not even a whole lot too long...the tight cuff makes them blouse a bit, so it works for me.

I think I will get a lot of wear from this shirt, especially in the cooler months.

Thank you, Claire, and thank you, YLF!

P.S. Not styled, just thrown on with what I was wearing.

Suz, you silly goose! You did not have to make such a big deal of this.

@everyone: I tried to sell this shirt to the consignment store and they didn't want it, can you believe that? So I thought of dear Suz and how she is right in between in regards to petite and regular lengths.

Back to you, Suz, Isn't it soft? I'm not sure how old it is but I always liked the herringbone weave on it. It looks wonderful on you, the color of white and the length. I'm sighing a happy sigh that it has found a good home. Look at you, just "throwing it on" and managing to effortlessly pull of one of this season's hottest looks: white on white. You look stunning! Cheers. :)

Awesome!  Doesn't this seem to relate to my thread on classics?  Is this not THE white shirt for you? :)

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Claire, it is definitely worth making a big deal about! Suz, it looks great!

I can't believe that consignment store. Mind you, if it is the same store that the Celine trench came from, maybe their standards are in another stratosphere. I want all of you to know, this shirt is in absolutely pristine condition!

But actually, didn't the Celine come from the thrift racks? Hmmm. Well, their loss is my gain. Thank you, again, Claire!!

Lol, the Celine trench came from Goodwill, not the consignment store. Business attire (and I'm referring to button front shirts, pencil skirts, blazers, etc.) is not popular here, but I thought they would at least want a plain white shirt. I mean, the people who work at Starbucks and grocery stores around here wear them as part of their uniform. Oh well, it's neither here nor there, but I knew Brooks Brothers shirts had a cult following on YLF at least.
