Cole Haan platform oxford: A favourite thing

I am a huge fan of the Cole Haan oxfords, both the regular and platform versions. In my experience, the platform version is a bit stiffer and requires a few wears to fully break in, but once it does, it's spectacular. I have the knit version and it is lightweight and extremely easy to wear. Like a dressed up sneaker. It was my shoe of choice in London. I sprayed it with waterproofing and despite being knit, it kept me dry enough in a complete downpour. I say "dry enough" because I would not have trusted it for longer than the 15 or 20 minutes that I was out -- the tips of my socks felt slightly damp when I took them off that night. But the shoe dried out immediately with no damage.

KILLER look, Suz! These love you right back! That scarf is a perfect complement to these oxfords faves, and I'm glad they worked well on your London trip :)

I'm another HUGE Cole Haan oxford fan. My weatherproof Golfing oxfords are Spring workhorses! Dressier than a sneaker. My feet are HAPPY.

Those shoes totally suit you and your style Suz.  What a great outfit.

Thanks, Suz, for the sharing your experience with these in the rain. I have a knitted top ones with regular soles and consider taking them on a trip in the fall because they are so comfortable. Although I had mine a few years, I didn’t get caught in a rain in them. So, good to know it might be ok.

Irina, I think they would be fine. Not for all-day tromping in serious, serious rain, if you know what I mean, but definitely okay if you spray them first and then get caught, like I did. I do think the platform sole helps a bit because it lifts you out of puddles, but I have been in some rain in my regular sole ones and they were not too bad either. I consider them the perfect travel shoe, really. It is very, very rare for me to find a shoe that never gives me blisters. This shoe is that!

Angie, I love the two-tone version!!!

What a sharp-looking outfit, Suz. It's good to know those shoes survived the wet without damage.

Looks like you can dress them up or down, which makes them perfect for traveling.

They look so refined and classy while still casual.  "Perfect travel shoe" is high praise, it is usually so elusive. Really sharp outfit, too.

I really like the dressier nature of these oxfords and your experiences with them in inclement weather.  Hope your stay in London was wonderful!

Great shoes, Suz! Also great outfit. I love your blazer and I am looking for something similar.

  • Suz replied 4 months ago

Thanks, Blue Jay. This blazer is one of my best consignment finds. Paul Smith!!! It cost about what a Banana Republic jacket would cost. It's unfashionably short and fitted but that is what I actually like about it. It's an unusual linen-wool blend and is mostly unlined (except for sleeves and back placket) which. makes it comfortable in all summer temperature.

Those are so cute!  What did you use for waterproofing?  I’ve had great luck with the Danier spray I stockpiled a decade ago after a trip to Canada, but I’ve no idea whether they still make it.

  • Suz replied 4 months ago

Mary Beth, that is exactly what I used! We still have some from ages ago as well! But we also have a couple of other, similar sprays. I think they are all silicone based. Again, they won't make a fabric shoe entirely waterproof but they definitely add some resistance.

Another fabulous outfit! Glad the shoes feel as good as they look.

Not sure what is in your summer shoe collection, but I found the Cole Haan woven espadrilles to be an all day shoe for light touristy days. Mine are a couple of years old, and still look really fresh.

  • Suz replied 4 months ago

Cat2, thank you for that tip! I have not tried those -- might have to look them up! I am in search of summer shoes/ sandals right this minute.

    Thanks, Jaime!

Those look so good! I have seen some Cole Haan at Nordstrom Rack, need to look at them more seriously.

The Cole Haans likely won't work for a very wide foot but medium is fine. Especially with the knit versions.
