Colour, pattern, texture, shine

Those of you who remember Transcona Shannon will recall that Colour/ pattern/ texture/ shine was one of her mantras. How I miss her!! And her fab outfits.

I managed to snap a few more pictures this weekend in my travels that just happen to illustrate the principles! :)

Texture! in the form of a fringe scarf, pom pom on hat (and the hat is cable knit.) Imagine fuzzy gloves, too -- I just couldn't wear them to take the photo. :) Suede booties, but a smooth wool melton coat, smooth stretch wool pants, lightly pebbled but mostly smooth leather bag (with incorporated shine.) Colour in the coat! Subtle pattern in the scarf -- it has white flecks running through it that aren't so visible in the photo. Oh -- and patterned socks!! That actually showed a bit because the pants are cropped. Can't find an online photo, alas...

Pattern/ colour/ texture/ shine in what's underneath...dark cranberry cashmere cardigan, denim shirt with silver and mother of pearl buttons, silk butterfly patterned scarf with tassels, silver accessories. Not visible much here is a cognac belt with snake print sections and silver buckle.

Wow, two posts in a week! It was easier for me to take photos on the fly than it has been lately at home!

Yes, I do remember Shannon (and miss her, too). Both your outfits are perfect examples, love all the textures and use them frequently, but regarding color the lavender coat is really a winner in the sea of darks remember when you asked K/R, and you did so well to keep! Love the hair and pls. keep on posting Suz, as YLF no matter what!

You look so cozy and lovely, especially in #1. Love how you make lilac work as a winter color!

  • Meredith replied 6 years ago

Oh, I just love the ink and lilac combination! Great little details in the outfits, too.

  • Sisi replied 6 years ago

You look fab as always. The lilac coatie is lovely and so are the scarf and the pompom beret. I like this outfit very much.

I also miss Transcona Shannon !

  • Joyce B replied 6 years ago

Great outfits! The lilac coat is super fab on you.

I miss Transcona Shannon too - she had great outfits and thoughtful comments.  Anyway, I love the fringe scarf with your lavender coat.  What a lovely combination!  I'm also loving the red sweater in #2.

I love this!  A fun mix of things going on here - and the coat is stellar. I love that scarf from MsM too.  It's so nice to see your posts again, and I too miss Shannon. In fact, I'm going to email her today to see how she is.  Oh - what are the stretch wool pants you are wearing ? The Kit & Ace ones? I need to find mine and see if they still fit ;)

  • Suz replied 6 years ago

Those are old Kit and Ace pants I'm wearing but I think I'm going to retire them because they have rose gold hardware and with my silver hair I am not feeling it. In other respects I like them -- they're great travel pants because they feel a bit dressier than jeans but are easy to wear. I can't remember the name of the style but it's the ones with the funny zippers on the bottom back and pleats on top -- you were supposed to wear them dropped crotch but I actually sized down and wear them at my waist and cropped.

I just bought a new pair of navy ones, simpler in style, and side zip -- we'll see how they do. I like the stretch wool. I think these will replace those, if you know what I am saying.

Shannon introduced me to Eileen Fisher. It's so good to see you post again. Your coat looks so nice with your hair! Suz, I copied you with the boots, and I wore mine yesterday with a grey outfit.

  • Cardiff girl replied 6 years ago

What a lovely demonstration of the points Angie made in her post.Your scarves are quite fabulous, the texture of the first one and the colours in the second -I have scarf envy!Your outfit in pics# 2and3 is really lovely ,the colours suit you beautifully.

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

I LOVE THE POM POM HAT. Sooooo fun and adorable. A fab classic. And perfect with the textured fringe scarf.

And you look as gorgeous as ever, sweet Suz.

  • Runcarla replied 6 years ago

What a fabulous lilac coat! Interesting colour mixing - lilac, blue, maroon, grey. Love your posts.

    Missing Shannon too!

  • replied 6 years ago

    That outfit is banging.

  • MsMary replied 6 years ago

Woo hoo! So fun to see the fringey scarf! I knew it would look fab with the lilac coat!! So wonderful to see you and you look amazing as always!

And yes, another vote for missing Shannon!

  • replied 6 years ago

I had those same K&A pants but passed them along after a few wears. They never did fit me properly.  I'm interested to hear what you think of your new ones!

  • Greyscale replied 6 years ago

Lilac! Great way to lighten your winter wear.

I especially like the denim shirt combined with everything.

  • Elizabeth P replied 6 years ago

Suz, it's good to see you again!  Great outfit, especially liking your scarf/coat combo.

Yeah, I think about Shannon often, I hope all is well with her.  She's certainly missed here!

  • deb replied 6 years ago

Love these outfits!! And Shannon, if you are out there lurking, hi.

  • Barbara Diane replied 6 years ago

Wow, the lilac coat is stand out fabulous on you. There is something about how you look that exemplifies something I want in my style.

  • Suz replied 6 years ago

I am not at all surprised that we are all missing Shannon. Weren't her daily outfit posts the best??

Shannon, I hope you are lurking here!!! See how we miss you????

Thank you everyone. I was so lucky to get this coat last year. It was on super sale -- I think I paid just over $100 for it, right before Christmas? Around then. It has been a real delight. It looks a bit snug in the photo but actually it was just bunching up because of static against my sweater, which is annoying but what can you do.

Funnily enough, on the subway I sat across from a woman wearing the same coat in olive. :) She didn't notice.

Barbara Diane, I wonder what it might be. These are what I'd call casual but polished looks, which is my typical for city dressing. (At home in Kingston I'm even more casual, alas...)

Elizabeth, good to see you, too!

Lisa, the new pants are simpler. On me they are full length (they say cropped, but heck, they're not really cropped even on the model). Side zip, which I like. Pockets on the side might pose problems -- I have to test that out. So far, they're smooth, but will it last? But the fabric quality is really nice and so is the colour -- a sort of greyed navy.

Mary, I ADORE this scarf. It was the most inspired gift ever. I

Beautiful colours and interesting details. You have GREAT personal style!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 6 years ago

Oh, yes, I miss Shannon, too. I loved her WIWs and her wonderful insights. I knew "color, pattern, texture, shine" sounded familiar--now I'm not sure whether I heard it from Shannon or Angie!

You look fantastic, Suz. This outfit is gorgeous on you. I love the cool mix of colors especially.

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

Another who misses Shannon very much. She's a good egg.

  • Aida replied 6 years ago

Hah I saw the scarf in the find and was excited to see how it looks with your hair... and you're wearing a cute hat instead ;) Gorgeous colors as always. That lilac coat is soooo wintery cheerful.

  • Karie replied 6 years ago

I LOVE the lilac coat. What an unexpected and super fun color for winter. And how did I miss the denim shirt with mother of pearl buttons at J Crew? I love pearls, I love denim shirts, I love J Crew (well, not so much since Jenna left, but that shirt is a beauty).

  • merwoman replied 6 years ago

Wonderful to see you Suz! You are positively radiant in both outfits, the scarves are amazing!

  • Jaime replied 6 years ago

Add me to the missing Shannon chorus! I love the fringey scarf on you Suz and the butterfly scarf reminds me of an AllSaints pattern. You look fabulous all around!

  • karen13 replied 6 years ago

All the pictures are gorgeous as usual. I have missed your outfits. The lilac coat is wonderful and your burgundy navy combo is pushing me to keeping a navy scarf I just got. Burgundy and navy has been my favorite for the past few weeks - your outfit is is a stellar example of why.

Oh and we are earring twins - I love those and think it was you and Sterlings comments that got me to buy them during NAS.

  • Violettt replied 6 years ago

Great outfits!  That color burgundy looks great on you!  Don't you just love that color in clothing?  I think everybody can wear it too regardless of their skin tone or hair color!

  • Mirjana replied 6 years ago

You look so lovely Suz , great colors, the pom pom hat is adorable, I can't stop looking #1, beautiful.

  • rachylou replied 6 years ago

    Just fantastic, both outfits!

And oh how I wish lavender didn’t make me look grey and sickly!

  • skylurker replied 6 years ago

You’re so cute in your pompom beanie! Love the lilac on you. Beautiful scarf, too.

  • Gigi replied 6 years ago

What a beautiful coat! I love the high contrast between the coat and the darker accessories.
