Compact travel capsule (and tonal blues and maybe reds)

I have to make a quick 3 day trip to Vancouver which will include multiple kinds of activities in --- ugh -- not only. dreadful, but mixed-up weather (winter cold plus pouring rain and then warmer with rain.) And I am on foot/ ferry, and have to bring a few gifts to friends. And also need to go for a walk with one friend in the rain and then meet another immediately afterwards for dinner, hopefully not looking like a drowned rat.

I have no idea whether this is going to work, but here's my travel capsule.

I'll be layering like a pro -- wool cami under mesh top, with puffer and raincoat (and possibly a sweater as well, depending)...wearing waterproof boots for everything. Holiday reds planned for tomorrow but in the blues today....plus red for the trip out -- gloves, scarf, puffer under the raincoat...would far prefer a different coat option but this is the best I can do in the mixed conditions. I have an umbrella, too.

Oh my, this outfit is tres chic Suz, love that pattern top. Great to have two different colour ensembles that can even mix and match if necessary. Enjoy your trip despite the rainy weather.

That's an outstanding capsule, and a lovely outfit. You really can pull it together, Suz, in the most interesting, stylish, and practical ways. And always with fashionable and waterproof footwear.
    Have a good trip.

    Lovely capsule, Suz!

With the increasingly mild (and wet) winters, I’ve added footwear that specifically advertises that it is waterproof!  Both have already gone into rotation.

Sorry about the weather. URGHHHH :(

We're heading out to Langley on Whidbey Island tomorrow - with Sam and Jo -  and it's going to pour :( - what can you do??? Rotten luck for both of us.

Good thing we know how to dress for the wind, cold, and rain! YES to weatherproof shoes and hoods, all the way.

Everything looks great, Suz! Good layering strategy.

Hope you'll be warm enough in the mesh top. And you didn't bring your new pairs of dressy navy pants! Didn't want to get them messed up in the rain outside, probably. Soggy hems!

    Have a wonderful trip.

That’s right Angie. I can’t risk my new pants in the rain. But if the mesh top isn’t enough with wool cami and puffer and raincoat I will do a quick switch out to sweater.

Hope you have a good trip!

I’ll keep you all posted about how it goes! Thanks for looking!

Thought so. Not packing extra long wide hems either. Too wet :(

Fab idea to layer, and a festively practical travel capsule FTW!

Great capsule, Suz! Your outfit looks chic and festive. Dressing for rainy, cold weather is so hard, so waterproof boots are a must.
I love Vancouver, but not the rainy weather.

You look fantastic - hope the warm friendships make up for the stink weather!

Beautiful outfit! I love that top and tried it, but it was a bit too bust-enhancing for me, LOL.

What a clever capsule. It seems you’re covered for activity and weather yet still chic!

I not-so-wisely wore my new CoH wide-legged jeans in the pouring rain in NYC the other day. No big deal but they definitely went straight in the wash when we got home.

Great capsule! Hard to look festive while still weather proof but this looks great to me. Sounds like fun in spite of the weather!

This capsule looks lovely, Suz--coat and all! Have a great trip. You will be plenty stylish.
I admit I got a little stalled at "wool cami"--that sounds nice!! I think i just identified a wardrobe hole! LOL! What's the brand or source?

Rotten weather, I've had trips where the weather sucked the entire time. I had a trip to Quebec, it was pouring rain every SINGLE day for the entire week. A shame because it's a beautiful city.

Layering strategy is perfect for varied weather. Safe travels!

Tres chic and very clever way to layer also. Hope the weather is better than expected!

  • Suz replied 1 month ago

Well, the weather was worse than expected -- with winds up to 100 km an hour (so much for an umbrella) and lots of cold and rain, but I had a good trip, nevertheless, and stayed as warm and dry as I could, under the circumstances. I wore tonal blues on one of the days, monochrome blues on the other, and tonal reds on yet another -- although on both days my outerwear included both blue and red, because I absolutely needed to layer up!

Sharan, the wool cami is more properly a wool tank, I guess, by Icebreaker. I find it super useful. Mine's a different colour, a grey blue.

I know, right? SOOOOO WINDY. The power went out on Whidbey Island, so we came home a day early.

Like you we had a great time anyway. Glad you layered up!!! Looking super cute of course :)
