Fair Isle: J. Crew finally comes through. Sweater reviews.

The order I placed on Black Friday finally arrived tonight. That is some kind of record.

The good news is that I'm keeping both sweaters.

The cashmere mock neck is very nice quality for the (sale) price. I have been wanting a lighter coloured patterned cashmere sweater and this fits the bill. As reviewers note, it is not fitted (as described) but oversized. I took my regular J. Crew size and at the moment, I'm about at my highest weight/ size; if I were any smaller I'd have wanted to size down.

I sized up on Sweater 2. I am glad I did -- the shoulder would not have fit me if I hadn't. IRL it is more pale grey than cream on the bottom portion, and the top portion is NAVY, not black. Wearing it in a few combinations in the pics. I loved it with the Black Watch as styled on the web site and since I have a Black Watch suit, I figured i could do the same. It is not too cropped for me at all (some reviewers complained of this). It is also nice and soft.

I'd have liked a colourful Fair Isle this year and may still pick one up, but these neutrals will easily work with my wardrobe and should have staying power even when the trend is over.

ETA: Photos are not great but we are in deep darkness now plus major rain. C'est la vie!

Killer x 2! These are perfection on you! So glad they were worth the wait!

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Both these sweaters are special on you, picking up shades in your hair.

  • Sara L. replied 5 years ago

What luck! So happy they both fit and look so good on you.

  • Christina F. replied 5 years ago

Oh I knew that second sweater would work for you. They’re lovely. Yay!

I kept three tops from my Black Friday week orders. The jesns I tried didn’t work on me, and the black watch Tippi sweater was a disaster (poorly made, with the white backing if the sweater peeking through the print). I’m glad you got some of the better made sweaters.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Ooh. Christina, I really like these tops. Angie has the plaid shirt, I believe. It's lovely. I also like the floral a lot for you. And red is always great!

Yes, I was actually surprised at the negative reviews of the cropped Fair Isle. It is much nicer than I expected given those comments. It just goes to show that you can't always believe what other people say! I was really glad to have heard from you, so thank you. I trust your opinion much more!

These are beautiful ! I particularly love the first one , as that cream mock is so flattering up against your face . Gorgeous sweater .

  • taylor replied 5 years ago

Both sweaters look so pretty . Very nice fit cozy and comfy !

  • Cee replied 5 years ago

    Way too cool :)

  • Mirjana replied 5 years ago

Suz, I am impressed with no 1, you look gorgeous, so beautiful sweater that I want to have one now even I am not a fan of Fair Isle. The second one is also nice but my favorite is no 1.

  • rachylou replied 5 years ago

Yes. I was just thinking grey/white/black is my kind of Fair Isle. Love it!

  • replied 5 years ago

They look great on you, Suz!!!  I especially love the first one.

  • Jules replied 5 years ago

I would have scrolled past these based on the catalogue photos but they are both great takes on Fair Isle that suit you well. I love the stripes around the neck on the first and the ombré effect of the second. Nice picks :)

  • Inge replied 5 years ago

Hurrah!! So glad they both worked out for you, Suz! The fit is fab, and I love the colours for you. Wonderful how you've styled them here, and I'm sure they will be very versatile pieces!

  • kkards replied 5 years ago

if i could wear turtlenecks, that 1st one would be mine...the 2nd one is great as well...
both fit you well and really like how you've styled them

  • pil replied 5 years ago

Both winners! And so cozy for the rain you are having. You mention black watch - my favorite plaid. Years ago I had a wool pleated skirt in that pattern that got tons of wear when I was working.

  • Style Fan replied 5 years ago

I love how you have styled these sweaters.  My favourite styling is the sweater with the black watch suit.

  • Laura replied 5 years ago

Especially love the mock neck on you! And glad the sweaters were worth the wait.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 5 years ago

You've made these fair isles look so sophisticated. Both are great; I prefer the darker one, but I love the way you paired the pale boots with the cream sweater.

  • Elizabeth P replied 5 years ago

They both look great on you, Suz... glad they were worth the wait!

  • Aquamarine replied 5 years ago

Very nice! I especially love the first one. I agree with you, the muted colors will not date this sweater once the trend is over (but I’ve always loved fair isles regardless if they are “in style” or not).

  • nemosmom replied 5 years ago

Both are beautiful on you and your styling is fantastic. So glad they finally made it to you!

  • RobinF replied 5 years ago

Beautiful sweaters! I love the neutral tones, I think it will make them a little more versatile. Those first boots are gorgeous! Are they a metallic white? They look kind of shimmery.

  • cjh replied 5 years ago

Great choices and glad they finally came. I love the second one, with the lower neckline and dark color scheme. It is perfect for you, though I suspect I’d also think it was too cropped for me.

  • replied 5 years ago

They look great, my favorite is the darker one, but i like how you styled the first with the silver booties!

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

WOW! I LOVE THE CREAM. KILLER to the Power of KILLER. That neckline is sublime. Now I want one too.

BOTH pullovers are gorgeous on you, and the way you styled them the Suz-way works like a charm. I'm just loving that workhorse Western belt. It's AMAZING with the silver boots.

You look as radiant as ever, beautiful lady.

  • Carla replied 5 years ago

Goodness you look incredible in these !

  • lyn67 replied 5 years ago

LOVE and LOVE!!!! Thanks for posting, you are always a great inspiration for me, Suz!!!

  • wendy replied 5 years ago

The sweaters look great on you. Perfect picks.

  • karen13 replied 5 years ago

Love them both. They are perfect for you. Lovely colorways.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Thanks for all your kind words!

Angie, the cream sweater is really nice at the sale price. I would have liked the bright navy but it was sold out by the time I got there, and then I realized that I really wanted a lighter coloured sweater anyway. I had my ivory and navy striped cotton LL Bean Breton but no other lighter coloured sweaters, really, and light can be almost as good as vivid colour for a perk-up.

I'm going to be checking for bright colours, though, during Boxing Day sales. My knitwear capsule needs a real refresh.

Robin, the boots are silver. :)

  • shiny replied 5 years ago

    You rock the fair isle!

I like how these fit on you. Not overly boxy. The color looks great with your hair and those silver booties.

  • Katerina replied 5 years ago

    Wow, Suz! These sweaters! Perfection.
The first one blows me away - stunning.

  • texstyle replied 5 years ago

Fantastic sweaters on you suz!  Wow, really great. Makes me wish I could wear sweaters more often. It's just not cold enough here to justify any more in my wardrobe.

  • cindysmith replied 5 years ago

You look great in all these pics, but I think you are especially stunning in that mock neck sweater!

  • jussie replied 5 years ago

These are both great. I have a slight preference for the second one because the darker shade near the neckline makes your hair "pop" more.

  • Jaime replied 5 years ago

Both are absolute winners on you!

  • Gigi replied 5 years ago

Wow, these look great on you, Suz! I think they were certainly worth the wait.

  • unfrumped replied 5 years ago

    Super looks!
    And really rocking the belt.

  • Jjsloane replied 5 years ago

They both are stunning on you! Wear them well to brighten the winter doldrums!

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Suz, I'm glad you got the cream and not the navy :)

  • Cardiff girl replied 5 years ago

You have great taste.l think that the cream is my favourite it adds light to your look.

  • Barbara Diane replied 5 years ago

    Those are fabulous perfection.
