Fashion Era Challenge: The 80s

I associate the 80s (especially the early to mid -80s)  with black and white, grey, and hot pink. (Inspiration pic is actually  '79, but you get the idea.)

And to me the 80s also mean skinny pants, big shoulders (lots of jackets), jelly shoes, oxfords, an urban sensibility.

Here's my attempt. I don't have a big-shouldered jacket, and I don't have big hair. But I tried to "punk up" the hair (my attempts were less successful than Rachylou's earlier this week due to lack of product). And I chose a tux jacket since I remember wearing one back in the day. Black and white checks, vinyl oxfords. Skinny grey jeans, pink belt.

And the soundtrack? The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades.

You are flippin' ADORABLE Suz! You have really rocked this era challenge. I think you nailed it - particularly when not having the exact pieces (I think you need hot pink skinnies in your wardrobe :) ).

    LOVE that song!

    WOOOHOOOOO. My favourite decade. YAY.

GREAT, Suz. You are THEE most adorable Tomboy in the world. Fab little pose and perfect touch with the oxfords, sunnies and bigger hair. A little and much pretty version of Joel in Risky Business.

    LOVE

Fun inspiration pic too. You nailed it, and rocked this challenge. Thanks for being a super sport.

The pink soles are fantastic - love how you matched them with your belt. It is frightening to me how little comes to mind about the 80s until I look at everyone's pictures and then boom! Soundtrack helps too!

Great Suz - love the hair too - and the pink soles are perfect.

I just posted about this color combo in Tracey's post today, and here it is!  Love it head to toe, and what are those shoes, woman?!  They are like totally awesome to the max.

Awesome!  I loved Risky Business.  I agree with Angie.  Your messy hair suits you.

Who needs shoulder pads when you've got tough hair, your shades and a stance like that!!!  I'm so loving the '80s at the moment.

Love the look, love the hair.

A very '80's Duran Duran look! Super cool.

    I'm supporting Team Pink Skinnies.

    Angie's got a point --- pink skinnies ---

Your inspiration is fully evidenced in a truly wearable outfit.  I remember the first half of the 80's as very preppy -- popped collared Izod shirts, penny loafers, etc.  Then New Wave and Punk-lite took over, along with neon and big hair.  Of course, I also moved from the Midwest to LA in 85 --- so it's no wonder the shift seemed to sudden and sharp to me!

Great look, Suz. Love what your hair does to kick the look into the 80's, while adding a bit of edge for today. Very nice! Also love the footwear. Bravo!

I don't miss the '80s. Shoulder pads were in everything, including sweaters and blouses. It was crazy, and I never could make those looks work for me. You rock it, though, Suz. Good job!
