Getting Knotty: More Banff closet play

So, here is another possible Banff look - going western and trying the knotted top - bought, by the way, from the boys' wear section.

Here with my Reports and the straight leg jeans I am bringing.

Also, with the down vest in case it gets cold.

And with my brand new rain slicker if it gets rainy. It is not quite red, not quite pink IRL. The colour is called red but it is more like a bright berry. This replaces an old EB rain jacket that was much too large for me. I got it on a super sale.

Also, showing the plaid shirt untucked so you can see why I am not a fan of cropped jackets with long tops on me. The proportions have to be JUST right...and they are usually wrong. I CAN do it with a top that ends right at the crotch, but any lower and I think it looks off.

This is my last post before I go. Hope to get pictures when I am away. In the meantime, thank you SO much for your encouragement and support! You really helped me out in a big way with inspiration and wise counsel.

Sorry to post and run but will check back this afternoon for replies.

Another winner! Love every variation of this outfit, Suz. The new plaid shirt looks good.

  • Tanya replied 11 years ago

Love everything Suz, including the last outfit! I wear that proportion often and it looks good to my eye.

  • celia replied 11 years ago

You are on a roll. This variations on the same theme are also winners.
I can see what you mean about the untucked tops and have been wondering about those porportions in myself also.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

I love all these looks. You can't go wrong.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Tanya, I think it works on you because you are very sylph-like. Your body may indeed be longer than your legs, but your legs are long-looking and slender. All your limbs are slim! But for me, with my more muscular legs, it just feels peculiar. I need to experiment more to find the exact sweet spot for a cropped jacket and hanging-loose top. It CAN work, but I need to be very picky about fit.

Looking good! I agree with Tanya that the proportions of #4 look good.

I dunno... the knots seem juvenile to me... you are already short and youthful looking... do you want to add to this? Perhpas it is not an issue for you but it would be for me. I like it best in the last picture.

You are cuter than cute, you stylish creature.

    WOW.

That's what I think when I see Sensational Suz!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Now this is Western style I can get behind! Fab Suz!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

I want to wear all of these looks RIGHT NOW!

(That means I like 'em). ;)

This is some serious mountain chic - maybe a bit "Ralph Lauren"? Lovesit.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

These are all great combinations. I personally prefer the shirt in #4 but you as the wearer must like it.

  • harmonica replied 11 years ago

Oh my, Suz! You in FAB heaven!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

I think all of these work very well, nothing looks off in the proportions and I like the layering. Layering with different lengths and pulling it all off shows real style.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Denise! You've got to see my other post!! I am sending you lots of YLF love today!

  • nancylee replied 11 years ago

These are all fabulous looks, Suz. You are really honing your mix-and-match skills with this packing challenge. I haven't had time to comment much this week, but I'm loving what you've put together and hope you have a great time!

  • cobaltblue replied 11 years ago

Suz, these are fabulously mixed and matched! I need to start checking out the kids' sections, as you seem to be finding some great loot there.

I see what you mean about number 4. Do you think the curved hem of the shirt could be contributing to the difficulty? The jacket cuts across in a straight line, as do the lines of the plaid, and then the hem swoops down below? Just a thought.

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

fun western look! All the mix and match is great and will serve you well. The booties are totally making the look for me. I hope you really enjoy your workshop in Banff!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

I love all the layering and the proportions look great to me! Each pieces plays very nicely with all the others and you look adorable in that cheery plaid!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

I really really like #2-4 (esp. #4!!), those proportions all look super to me. I much prefer the top untucked than knotted with the white jacket, though I suspect that without the knot you could wear it both ways :)

EDIT: I meant without the JACKET you could wear it either knotted or unknotted.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

It must be just my own eye then, about the proportion...I really don't get it. Because unknotted it still looks too long to me! I suppose I could always hem it to the length that I like better, but not until I get back from my trip.

It's interesting that one or two others share my perception. If I had long legs this wouldn't bother me a bit.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

While I think 4 looks great, I would like to see it with a shorter more fitted cropped jacket. I think these kinds of shirts look best when the top part is "reined in"by the jacket to create almost an A-line. You can totally wear this look, as I've said before! Honestly, I don't see ANY difference between your leg proportions and mine - I am STUBBY!

And the rest look great too. I'm with Rita on the knotted look, just isn't my thing, but I love the 2 and 3 - so cozy chic!

  • Traci replied 11 years ago

Have you tried a half tuck instead of a knot?

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

I did, Traci, but I don't think I was doing it right, LOL! I am going to experiment again when I get to the place. I hope I get a nice full length mirror to play with!

You are the best, all of you! It's so helpful to have someone to muse about this stuff with!

Una, you are NOT stubby. No way.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Okay, well then you're not stubby either. See my lawyer tricks, getting you to admit that? :)

  • cinnamon fern replied 11 years ago

I think we have similar legs, and I find long tops difficult too. I think part of why #4 works for me is the curved hem - because the shirt is shorter on the sides it gives a longer leg-line.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Suz I love this. I struggle with dressing for such occasions but you have nailed it. I have to tell you how much I love those booties. They work with everything and in this instance elevate the casual look to something a bit special.

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Suz, I know you're on your way already, but just wanted to drop in and say this is extremely impressive and you look as cute as a button! Love that cheery red on you.

Like Rae said, extreme mountain chic is what I was thinking --- you'll fit right in, but stand out sharply!
