Giving Angie the Gears

Or rather, the Gear Award for 2018.

What? You're scratching your head about now. But Angie doesn't like gear! She only wears it when necessary!

Still, she managed to lead me to my best-fitting, most practical, and most comfy gear shoes since -- well, I don't know, maybe forever?

I got the Goretex version so I can run in the woods nearby in rainy Vancouver, but I also wore them on hikes in the Grand Canyon this fall. They are an excellent shoe, in my opinion -- lightweight, grippy, easy on/ easy off. (Note, the photo seems to indicate wide width -- mine are not, but perhaps they also come in wide? Worth a look for those who need that.)

No photo of them on my feet, alas. They look like...gear.

Suz, will you be doing the Grouse Grind??
    https://www.grousemountain.com/grousegrind
And unrelated, I had to wait for my friends to cross the Capilano suspension bridge. I made it about two steps in and had to turn around.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Well....I hadn't thought of the Grouse Grind, Pil, but maybe I ought to. With these shoes I feel invincible. :)

And yes, that bridge is a bit scary. I've been over it a few times!

Gorgeous photos! Thanks for sharing. We went to the Grand Canyon on our honeymoon.

I love Salomon, too. I’ve been wearing them for 10+ years. They work for me because my big toes curl up. All other hiking shoes I’ve tried have too short of a toe box. BTW, my feet are not wide, just long!

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

    HILARIOUS.

You crack me up, Suz. The award is quite an accomplishment, given my intense dislike for gear :)

VERY happy you like our trail shoes. Have to admit that they're sublime  once you start walking and forget how ugly they are!

Hope you had a fab time at the Grand Canyon, and your skin looks healthy and gorgeous.

Hmm, I might have to look into these.  I really need to replace my old trail shoes.

    Beautiful photos!

Thanks for the photos. My favorite is the ooh aah sign. And thanks for the shoe endorsement. I don't need it now, but maybe later.

Amazing photos, what a great place to spend the start of 2019

    ....and superb shoes!

  • nemosmom replied 5 years ago

I "oohed and aahhhed" long before I saw the sign! Great pics and a great find! Happy feet = happy hike :)

  • karen13 replied 5 years ago

Awesome photos. And review. Now I’m fired up for a Southwest Desert road trip in 2019. Where else did you go and stay?

  • Style Fan replied 5 years ago

I love Arizona and the Grand Canyon.  The hiking is amazing.  I will have to check out those gear shoes.  I need a pair.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

I had never been to Arizona before. I had to present at a conference in Phoenix. While there, we stayed with friends in Scottsdale and went hiking in the desert. Then we went to the Grand Canyon for a few days, and Sedona. It was a beautiful drive and we had some great hikes.

What fabulous scenery, the ooh aah point made me laugh.Good to have shoes that will take you to places like this.

  • Cee replied 5 years ago

I see your friend Cliff in the background.

    Happy feet, rejoice!!!

  • bj1111 replied 5 years ago

I have a version of this shoe and agree with you. They are worth every penny.

  • unfrumped replied 5 years ago

    Great gear!
I have some Salomon walking shoes and love them. Very comfy toebox.

  • replied 5 years ago

Fabulous views! Ohh Ahh point gave me a laugh.
I seriously considered these shoes too. I had done a thorough, and I mean Thorough with a capital “T”, online investigation of various hiking shoes and these were indeed the best-looking ones, despite what Angie says about them.

  • Jaime replied 5 years ago

Best award and best campaign for the shoes wrapped in one!

  • Stagiaire Fash replied 5 years ago

Awesome award, lol! Glad your trip went well. Those are great shots of the Grand Canyon, and you look to be thoroughly enjoying it.

  • RobinF replied 5 years ago

Wow, amazing pictures. I've never been to the Grand Canyon but it's on my list.

  • Kathie replied 5 years ago

Thanks so much for sharing the pics from your trip. Gorgeous scenery! And, the post brought a smile to my face- best award ever for Angie!

  • Janet replied 5 years ago

Oh, I love the scenery there!

And I love that you’ve granted Angie this award. :-) Good gear shoes that keep your feet feeling good are so much more important than how they look!

  • replied 5 years ago

So beautiful and the sign made me laugh! Did you do the helicopter tour or donkey ride too? I noticed someone posted the same shoes in a happy turquoise color in the finds :)

  • Christina F. replied 5 years ago

Great photos! I think those shoes are pretty good looking, as gear goes.

  • Sara L. replied 5 years ago

I need to look into these shoes.  I do enough hiking that I should probably get good shoes for it instead of just wearing my running shoes.

I love your prickly pear photo!  My husband picked (carefully, with tongs) all the fruit off the one in our yard and some wild ones around the neighborhood and made prickly pear syrup this fall.  I've been giving it away to friends and neighbors for the holidays.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Thanks for the comments, all. Janet, when I was there I was wishing I had your photographic skills and eye. I just had the iphone with me. I only walked into the canyon, suntiger -- we didn't have time for helicopter or donkey this visit. Plus, Mr. Suz had to take it easy and stay on the rim because he got a hernia the day before our trip! I loved the hike, though. Smittie, I agree -- as hiking shoes go, these are pretty good looking. They are also the best fitting ones I've had. They are still (of course!) a bit loose on the heel, but I can adjust them so it isn't as bad as usual. JAileen, the toe is a bit curved, isn't it? I have short toes, so that's not my issue as a rule -- even so, I injured my toes in hiking shoes (a different type) several years ago, probably on steep declines.

Spectacular photos! Fall is a magical time of year to visit the desert.

  • replied 5 years ago

ha, yes, I forgot about FIT, and how important that is. I understand this is particularly important if you have foot issues. I'm glad you got an all-around great pair!

  • lyn67 replied 5 years ago

YLF by trecking, too & I so loved the views esp. the OH-AH point!:-)

  • Karie replied 5 years ago

WOW. Gorgeous photos. A good pair of gear shoes is a must for hiking, running, and walking. I'll bet your feet are thanking you for taking good care of them.
