Hectic pattern, calm colour (and sweater as a 3rd piece)

Apologies as usual for the photo quality. Argh, winter light!

Casual at-home day for me. I usually wear this sweater on its own or under a jacket because unlike many sweaters, all by itself it makes a statement. But today I threw on a favourite shirt and thought  -- why not wear them together? After all, what's wrong with checks, snake print, and florals combined? :)

Very fun pattern mixing with the blue to calm it down, love it. :)

    I like it !

That’s a beautiful sweater, Suz, and it’s even more fun with the check shirt.
Now all you’re missing is MsMary’s favorite neutral - leopard ;) (kidding!)

I like your combination! The prints and colors play nicely together.

  • Elizabeth P replied 6 years ago

She's got the Ecco snakeskin booties she could throw in! :)

I agree Suz, "why not".  But to be perfectly honest, it's too much movement for my taste.  I'm curious how you feel in this... or how you will feel at the end of the day, because I suspect it's a lot of movement for you, as well.

I am amazed at how well this works. I love the palette - I think the "calm" is what makes it look so good.

I have this same sweater. No checked blouse, but a blue and white stripe I own might provide a similar graphic effect. I can never get shirts to lie nicely under sweaters without being all lumpy, though.

If I'd just looked at the finds, I wouldn't have thought I'd like it, but it looks great on you. I think it's because of the similar colors/tones and the proportions visible is different. A useful lesson as I go play in my closet later this month.

The booties!! If only I could wear them in this slush...(I don't wear them indoors). Otherwise, I seriously would, Elizabeth!

Not too much movement. I mean, I'm not wearing it to a funeral but am fine with it for today. I am sure it's because it's blue. And only blue/ grey.

Thanks for the boost! It's a silly combo but a really comfy shirt so good for layering. There are a few bumps, I admit...but not too bad. leaving it untucked helps!

Hi Suz! It looks like such a very pretty sweater you have on today!
Its pattern is very nice, and it looks like the perfect layering piece for a blouse or shirt.
However, I agree with Elizabeth about this particular combination. To my eye, the happy, crispier, more frank checkered print looks like it's talking over and not listening to the subdued, sensual design on the sweater. But you are right about the winter light. I can't see so well and maybe IRL it appears otherwise. I like the undone cuffs popping out from the sleeves!

Nice pattern mixing and I’m liking the popped collar.
You have me thinking about gingham.

I like it! "hectic pattern, calm colour" is a great formulation. I wonder if I could do something like that.... Thanks for the inspiration!

How can you always look so good?  Pattern mixing works so well in this outfit.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

As Diana said, you always look so good and authentically yourself. I love this pattern mix. I find it delightful and energizing.

I think the check shirt MAKES the outfit!  I really like this one on you.

  • Katerina replied 6 years ago

It works beautifully, wow!!! You look fab!

  • LaPed replied 6 years ago

Wow, gingham in the winter! Never would've occurred to me, and it really does work with the sweater. Like Elizabeth P, I personally might feel too busy in it. And I LOVE those built-in bookshelves in your bedroom. :)

Ummlila -- I have the same problem layering shirts -- I can only do it with rather loose, chunky sweaters.

  • Brooklyn replied 6 years ago

Nothing wrong with it at all. YLF!

  • Amy replied 6 years ago

Nice combo! The sweater and shirt work seamlessly great together! Killing it!

  • Windchime replied 6 years ago

What's wrong indeed?! Those two pieces were made to be worn together.

I'm thinking along with SarahD8 about "hectic pattern and calm color." I suppose "lively color and calm pattern" would also be effective.

    Beautiful bookshelves!

FABULOUS. Sharp, crisp, interesting and perfect with your eyes and hair.

  • Debora replied 6 years ago

It totally works! You look fantastic!

  • Jaime replied 6 years ago

Nothing wrong at all. You look great and the natural highlights in your hair are perfect. And may I say you have a lovely bedroom!

  • replied 6 years ago

I'd wear that combo in a heartbeat! You look great!

  • Jenni NZ replied 6 years ago

I noticed the bedroom too. And I like the outfit:)

I like this combo.  The colours look so lovely with your hair and skin.  Nice pattern mixing.  Flannel and cashmere sound perfect to me right now.
