Holiday Plaid

I've been wanting to try this outfit formula. I usually wear this skirt with stompy boots or booties, and have also worn it with tall heeled boots. But I wanted to try it with the flat waterproof riding boots today -- a cold day with crazy intermittent showers.

I haven't worn these boots in a couple of years so it was really fun to haul them out!

I know the red and green (and blue) might not be everyone's cup of tea, nor the double plaid in the outside outfit, but for rme it hits a fun holiday note.

Nothing here is new. Everything is old to very old.

KILLER on trend, and super cuddly!

You look stinking cute and fably festive! LOVE the riding boots with the skirt!!! Such a good refresh of boots and skirt.

That plaid is delightful, you are radiant in red, and our oyster puffer is awesome :)

Cute! Looks great to me and festive.

Well interestingly your Find (custom Find) for the skirt shows it worn that way! Beautiful boots and that’s great that you enjoyed pulling them out again. I’m like you in that I go on and off my tall boots. I wore them twice this past winter and enjoyed them, but for me I think it’s because I wear skirts or dresses so seldom overall in my winter, and with pants I just tend to wear my ankle boots.
I like everything about this outfit including double tartans!

I do really love the use of the dark plaid (also double plaid means double fun!) with the bright red and creams, here!  The proportions of the  sillhouette are so perfect, so well done, love it! Very festive! Love the stripey strap for the crossbody, too!! But i  mourne the donated tulle skirt-that was also a plaid isn't it? sobbing.

A little hard to see the plaid of the skirt in the photos, but the skirt looks flirty and festive. You wear plaid so well, its a signature for you. The riding boots look stylish and practical for the day's weather. Love that red on you too.

    Love it!

What a fun and flattering outfit! I like the tall boots with the skirt; that’s how I would wear it too. Gosh the neckline and fit and color of the sweater are fantastic on you.

  • Jaime replied 3 weeks ago

The red sweater is so good on you! The entire outfit is fab and you are inspiring me to pull out my tall boots too.

  • JAileen replied 3 weeks ago

Well you know I like it!  I’d like to see you add a third plaid, actually.  :)

I think it looks great ! And that plaid holiday / Ralph Lauren look is apparently trending this year in home decor …which had even me considering a plaid dress for holiday wear .

Wintry, festive, and fab, Suz! I love the dark plaid with the red pullover. The boots are terrific with it.

Great looks for a Canadian Winter!  Love to see people have fun with the seaons!

  • Sal replied 3 weeks ago

I love this Suz’! It is festive and fun. And I think it is very trendy.

  • Star (Lise) replied 3 weeks ago

Hits the right note for me too :).

A beautiful color combination and silhouette. You are so cute all bundled up in # 3 !

  • Janet replied 3 weeks ago

So cute! You rock that red!

  • RobinF replied 3 weeks ago

Looks great! Love that skirt and the boots with it are perfect.

  • Suz replied 3 weeks ago

Thanks, everyone! It's funny about the red sweater. When I bought it, the neckline was a bit large and -- not droopy, exactly, but a bit bare. Then I washed it. And the sweater shrunk a bit, especially in that area, which actually worked out well for me overall. It did well all last year with no pills at all but I notice a few amassing lately.

The Alison Wonderland skirt is dark forest green, cobalt, and charcoal -- a kind of Black Watch adjacent plaid, really. I know it's hard to see in the photos. Sigh.

Jenni, you are 100% right about the stock photo! Ha! I hadn't even paid much attention to that.

Lyn, I know -- the tulle skirt.... but I just wasn't wearing it. So on to another happy owner, I hope.

I love it Suz, and it would brighten my day to see something like this in the wild !

  • LJP replied 3 weeks ago

Oh that's interesting - the plaid dress I'm half considering is from Alison too!

  • Laurie replied 3 weeks ago

Boy that outfit really comes together for a grand finale with the outerwear! All perfect choices. Red loves you! So festive.

  • Ket replied 3 weeks ago

STELLAR! I just love you in every single bit of this! The hat and plaid scarf add so much oomph and make the outfit extra special. Loveth!

  • Carla replied 3 weeks ago

I really like how you put this all together, with the last photo being my favourite.

From what I can see it looks like this style of boot (low heeled riding bit with a rounded toe) has come ‘round again - so you are ‘on trend’.  Keep them in your rotation.

  • Suz replied 3 weeks ago

Carla, I was surprised by how comfy these felt the day I wore them. I wore them a lot in my first year of owning them but they weren't always ideal - -mainly because they were not really warm enough for Ontario winter. They work perfectly here, though.

The toe is actually a sort of almond shape.

LJP, I will be curious to see the dress if you go for it! I tried to get into her shop on Granville Island a few weeks ago but it was a Monday so whe was closed. :(

Thanks, everyone...I had fun wearing the outfit.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 3 weeks ago

I could not really see the plaid in your photos but was thinking the skirt was a perfect shape and length for you.

  • Carol replied 3 weeks ago

For me there will never be anything wrong with plaid on plaid, as in your scarf and skirt. I love this look--it seems timeless. I also love the patent look of your boots--patent is one of those outlier things from my normal style that I love.

  • Karie replied 3 weeks ago

I think the red sweater looks great with the plaid skirt. I usually default to wearing white or a color that’s in the plaid, and it’s so nice to see how fantastic it can look with another color. Gorgeous!

  • Cookie replied 3 weeks ago

I love this! The sweater especially is so cuddly and you glow in that shade of red.

  • Lisa replied 3 weeks ago

The riding boots and skirt are lovely paired together. And the red jumper is perfect for the holiday season. How fun you already had all the pieces in your closet to create a festive look.
