Keep or Exchange: The YLF Sweater in Grey

I had ordered two sizes to compare, but I only got one sweater. Is it the right size, and do you like the colour for me?

Hubs liked it, though worried that it might be awfully warm, and I find it a tiny bit scratchy even with a cami. Am wondering if the different colours have different softness levels.

Love this color on you. For itchyness, if you run on team cold (like I do) how about layering a long sleeve t underneath?

  • Kristin SF replied 11 years ago

Love the fit, love the color! Love the jeans and new booties, too! This says minimalist classic, it really looks fab.

Also loving the title of this post. YLF sweater, indeed. ;-)

I really like it Suz, the grey looks really nice on you! Grr that they messed up your order!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Absolutely perfect. *runs out to get one*

  • cciele replied 11 years ago

Thumbs up from me! The itchiness and warmth factor are a concern though... you could wear an underlayer but there's a chance you might be too hot?

  • Kristin SF replied 11 years ago

LOL, yep - added it to my GAP basket this morning!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    Perfect! Seriously.

Itch factor is of some concern though...

I like the color a lot, and you seem to look good in everything.

The itchiness, though--I can't bear that. Only you can tell if it's tolerable.

I like this size on you, will confess that I've not been a fan of the very slouchy look, so I personally wouldn't be looking to size up from this one. Good color for you. I would also combat itchiness by wearing a long-sleeved tee under it but then my house is cold inside.

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

The color and style look great on you but itchiness would be the deal breaker for me.

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

    KEEP.

  • cobaltblue replied 11 years ago

I love this on you, size and color. (The grey looked baaaad on me!) I too was surprised at the itchy, static-y feeling I got trying these on but plan to wear with a long-sleeved tee underneath, as suggested above.

I brought home the cream in S but am still not sure about the super-oversized look on me. I'll be posting it with potential styling ideas, if the forum can handle any more threads on this sweater.

    *happy sigh*

That color is divine on you!!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Cute and cozy. If it weren't for my hot flashes I'd get one of these for myself.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thanks, all....you are right it will be better with a long sleeved layering T underneath. It is a bit on the warm side here today, too, and that always makes me itch more in sweaters. When it's super cold I almost never do.

I LOVE the style. Would gladly wear some other sweaters in this cut if I could find them.

Of course, I was hoping to try this sweater tomorrow at my holiday party with the jeans that have not yet arrived and are presumably sitting in the Fifty-One warehouse (grrr):

    Wouldn't that look fun?

I am almost tempted to go out and try to find some different jeans tomorrow instead. Not that I'd have much luck in these parts...

Hoping Angie and Inge and others who have the sweater weigh in about the size. It is not as oversized as some are wearing it. Is it as oversized as Angie's?

  • replied 11 years ago

Wahoo, I have that one coming my way.
I like it, the itchiness factor is a non negotiable for me. I'm wondering about that too now.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

I think it might work fine with long sleeves underneath or even on a cooler day here, Zap. I don't have super sensitive skin but I do have some reactivity. So your mileage may vary, of course. Can't wait to see it on you!

  • Sara L. replied 11 years ago

I think it looks great on you. I think you might look overwhelmed in a larger size. Too bad about the jeans - I agree that that outfit would be fantastic for a holiday party.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

The colour is great. WOW! You found your perfect grey!

I'd have also liked to see a size up Suz, but this looks really nice too :)

    Which size did you get?

ps. I don't find this jumper all that warm - do I run that cold??

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Well...I might run warm, Angie. I do know that I run warmer than you. I think it also depends on the *kind* of cold we have. The cold in Seattle is DAMP. In Ontario it tends to be dry in the winter (although not always). Anyway, more like New York and Boston, at least where I live (except colder and longer winters). But inside, with central hea,t it can get very warm and staticky - another complaint from YLF members. We keep our house on the cool side, but even so....

This is the XS regular. I can see if they have S in the store here tomorrow and do some comparison shots. This does not feel at all "oversize" to me although it is obviously a loose sweater. But the sleeves are not long, the neck not large, etc. It is pretty much what my regular size is, although in Gap I might ordinarily wear a petite (depending on the product).

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Love the sweater on you. I think the colour and size are just perfect. Wonder what size up would look like?

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 11 years ago

So in love with the jeans that haven't arrived and think they would pair nicely with this sweater. It really is a great shade of grey for you. I wonder what size up would look like too, as I like this look.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I'm even colder when I'm in NYC during Winter! I wear thermals every day in that neck of the woods.

Suz, you're right. The band on this jumper is fitted, and not oversized. The band on my jumper stands away from my body. That said, you might prefer it that way. I am just curious to see the larger size because the oversized look is more fashion forward, if that makes sense :). You might very well stick with this size.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thanks, Angie. I am going to try to see if they have the small in stock in my store and will post some pics for comparison! If they don't have it, I may just keep this one because the ordering situation was so tricky. Possibly my best size would be small petite (which I suspect would be somewhere between regular small and xs except a bit shorter) ...but for that I would have to order again. Which I am willing to do, of course, if that is what we discover! Just that it will mean a bit more waiting.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    Sounds like a plan!

I don't think the petite will work because the regular is the right length.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Yep, it was the lighting in the other photo. That grey does look good on you. I wish I looked as good in this sweater as you do! Perfect.

  • jenanded replied 11 years ago

Suz, I think it looks cute and wish i could do sweaters like this. While I like this, I wouldbe so intereted to see the larger size as Ange suggests. I know we talk about the larger sizes coming in but I am keen to see them in action... as for the itch, that would be a non negotiable for me...

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

Love the color on you, worried about the itch factor, although as mentioned, a long sleeved layering T might take care of that.
