K/R BR zip detail sweater

I decided that the Kenneth Cole sweater was too drapey in the front for me, which is why I passed it along to LisaP (who wears it to perfection).

But now I need (or at least want) a grey cardigan type sweater for my work-at-home days.

I wanted to try the Angie pick long cardigan (#2) but it sold out in my size before I got a chance. They might get more in, however. Then again, it might be too long for short me, anyway.

Meanwhile, Mr. Suz had a huge discount coupon thing at BR and so I ordered the zip detail open sweater. (Find #1).

It has a high low hem, so the back covers my rear. The zips on the side can be adjusted wherever you want  -- all the way for a sort of cape-like look, or just partially.

To be honest, I'm not sure what I think of it. Here it is, styled in a couple of ways. I discovered that if you open up the zips you can wrap and semi-tuck the front for a different look.

Please forgive bedhead and the darkness. I tried to lighten the pictures a bit.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Suz, I mostly like it.  I think it looks really good when you wrap it.  The only way I am unsure of is when it is unzipped completely and the sides are hanging open in the front view, and maybe the side view. It kind of looks like you are wearing a scarf, and maybe like the sweater is torn, and it draws your eyes right down to your hips.  I don't know if that is a problem for you because you are so slender.  The other versions look fine to my eye.  I wonder if this would look better if the shirt underneath were untucked?  It looks like that is how the model in the picture is wearing hers. Perhaps I just need to adjust to this type of look?

Wow - I like this!  I think this is perfect on you - and I love the way it can be zipped, wrapped, etc....very creative of you:)

I don't see any "cons" or downsides to this sweater -dark grey is such a good colour to work with . It's a nice clean look, but interesting enough to lift it out of "boring cardigan" territory. Keep!!

p.s. cute plaid pants too !

This cardigan definitely has a great potential. I love the side zippers on this but like Staysfit said, an untucked shirt will look more flattering.

Well, of course I love anything grey, convertible and with zippers.  I think it looks great and agree with Lisap here.  However, you have such a good sense of your own style that I'm wondering if you're having some hesitation for a reason you haven't expressed? :)

I don't know Suz. You always look so great in every photo -- and you do here as well. But I don't love it as much as I love most things that you wear. I'm not sure why. I don't love it open at the sides, and I'm not positive about it in #6 either. I can't be very articulate so maybe just throw out my response. I have no doubt that if you keep it you will do wonderful things with it, but honestly it's just not my favorite.

It's a nice cardigan and I like it in #1-3, but I think I just don't get the unzipped look. Not sure what I would change, but my first thought was simply: what is the purpose of being able to unzip a cardigan like that? Very utilitarian of me, I know...

I love the side zips...when open, try a button down or woven shirt untucked.

I also like it wrapped and tucked. Struggling a bit with the front shawl drape. How do you feel in it?

Bedhead...hah - you look gorgeous as always Suz!  The sweater works and fulfills the function, but I'm thinking it's just a wee bit short (in the front) for what you want? Maybe you needed the 'tall' version ;-)?

Agreeing with bj1111 - I think for the unzip bit to work you need  an untucked shirt - seeing two fabrics, plus belt is a bit hectic.

I vote return. It looks too short and flap-fussy in front, Suz.

The one from CM is my suggestion.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

    Thank you all!

Yes, I think the main problem is the front length. It is not enough. And it is a bit fussy also, and maybe cocoonish. If that's a word.

    NEXT!

Angie, I love the CM sweater, but it is black. I really don't want a black sweater. I just got a navy sweater (which I will wear). And charcoal I could go for, but black is so.....BLACK.

Anyway -- onward! There are probably a thousand sweaters out there that will work better and I can wait until I find one.

    Thank you all! :)

Blast. Why did they have to make that cardi black? Off with their heads.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Yes, Angie. If it were ink I would have jumped for it. But perhaps they will come out with a similar one in a different colour. That sometimes happens. Meanwhile the longer BR may come back into stock.

Glad Angie chimed in because my first response was "too short!" and I know we are very similar in the types of tops/sweaters we wear. I'll have to show you the grey cardi I picked up last week from the Mexx outlet. I'm quite happy with it....mind you it's light grey....

"Flap-fussy" = word of the day.

  • ironkurtin replied 9 years ago

    I'm seconding Angie. Keep looking!

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

My first thought before reading the other comments was: "Not bad, but there's probably something better than 'not bad' out there." So I agree with Angie et al to return.

Hope the other one comes back in stock or something else turns up soon!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

I am glad we are all on the same page here. My first thought was "too short" when I saw it, too, but it was so soft and a nice charcoal, so I was willing to entertain it. It's already packed!

Jackie, light grey is also great! So show me the Mexx!!  :)

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

I hadn't thought of the sweater as being too short, but it didn't really say "Suz" to me. It was only OK. I'm glad you're returning it.
