K/R: Colourblock sandals and BR dress

My new colourblock sandals came. I think this is a keep but I am checking to make sure. The straps are wider than on my brown/grey pair, and they don't feel quite as refined, as a result. Do they look too clunky?

Because the straps are wider, they are also rubbing a bit on one ankle bone, so I need to wear them around the house to ensure full comfort. The footbed is great and the wedge an easy height.

Showing with a denim pencil, my work-at-home shorts outfit today, and Item 2 for Review.

The other item for review is this BR knit halter dress. I decided to consign the funky/ arty dress that my friend passed down. I just wasn't really feeling it, and why waste time with items we're not feeling, right?

This would be the replacement for a casual, easy dress to pop on for running errands, etc. on hot days. Does it work? Showing with the new sandals and another pair of sandals I might wear with it.

Thank you for your opinions!

I like them both! That dress looks great on you, and it seems like the perfect easy summer dress. And with pockets! Where is it from/who is the designer?

Oops, so much for my reading comprehension skills. I missed "BR" in your original post. Thanks for the info!

  • replied 10 years ago

The dress is a keep for sure! BR, really?

I like the sandals too! I hope the rubbing eases.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Thanks, Janet and Ceit. Janet, the dress is from Banana Republic and is on sale now. I fear it might not work for a tall woman (though it is worth a try). I was surprised to find that it's about the same length on 5'4" me as on the model! I think it's a good length for me, but I wouldn't want it shorter. Mind you, if ordered in a larger size it might be correspondingly longer. (One can hope...)

The pockets are definitely a fun feature. And it just pulls on overhead (with a bit of difficulty, admittedly, since there is a keyhole opening in the back with buttons that are impossible!) and there is a drawstring at the waist. Sort of a beachy kind of thing.

This dress is really nice. The sandals may be a bit heavier than what you are used to, but they look great. I like the bracelet in #3.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

You look KILLER beautful in the dress, Suz. And I hope that the sandals end up fably comfy. You look so fresh and elegant. xo

  • Mona replied 10 years ago

The dress is a keep for sure. Love the black and white with the pop of hot pink. The sandals are good too.

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I think the sandals and dress both look great on you (and together). The dress really highlights what beautiful shoulders you have.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Thank you all! Yes, I will need to try these sandals more closely for comfort. But I think on the whole they will work.

Glad you like the dress; I am quite pleased with it and so was hubs. It is not always easy to find a halter with a high neck like that, but since it's one of the few summer styles that works for me (I get to bare my arms instead of the chest) I might as well take advantage of it.

The dress is actually navy and white, which is even better for me.

Gorgeous dress, Suz.  It's very flattering, stylish and practical.  I love the shoes, too.  I hear you on refinement.  I've been looking for a really modern, slightly more refined sandal, too, and haven't found it yet.  I have purchased a couple more substantial wedge sandals this summer with that same (too clunky?) question in my mind.  Being on a larger scale, however, I think the stronger shoes works with my frame.  In your case (you petite flower, you), I still think these work.  They make you legs look shapely and I like the rich energy in the color.

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

That dress is great on you and I was noticing that it is what I consider PDL. Great that you reminded us of your height!

I really like the sandals on you as well and find the palette more subtle than I would have guessed from the website. Of course, comfort must come first. Perhaps they can be stretched a little bit.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • replied 10 years ago

Oh darn sold out in my size. It's a beautiful dress.

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

Great dress! It is better than the arty one.
Sandals are chunkier so you have to decide, but I think the proportions are good, the style is minimalistic and not clompy,  and the color is great, and the wider straps stand up to casual outfits better than delicate sandals, IMO.

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

Love the dress! I looks much more like 'you' than the other one. The sandals look great too, I like the wider straps.

  • MNsara replied 10 years ago

I think both sandals and dress are keepers!  (as long as the sandal comfort works out)  The fit of the dress looks spot on, and the print is bold but not big or loud.

The dress is perfect for no fuss dressing but still being well dressed :-)

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

I think the sandals look great but the dress is fantastic on you! Curious about bra choice for this halter style - did you already have a halter style option that worked?

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

    Yes and Yes.
The dress is perfect on you and for you. It can go everywhere: date night, errands, activities with DD.
I love the sandals - the style and colour. You have more refined footwear if needed. So I vote yes, assuming the rubbing rubs off!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

The dress looks beautiful on you, Suz! Absolutely keep!

I like the sandals a lot, but comfort needs to be the deciding factor. I hope they work out for you!

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

I'm a yay vote for both, Suz:-)
Definitely keep the dress: elegant and polished. I love this style and print on you!!
I also love the sandals (not too clunky to my eye), but they have to be comfy, of course. So if they pass that test, I vote keep too.

Adore your work outfit as well.

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

Oooh, forgot to say: that hot pink clutch is super fab too!-)

  • replied 10 years ago

Love the sandals, love the dress and I like how you styled the sandals withskirt and shorts, fab!

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

The sandals are keepers, if you ask me. A little more casual than usual, but still keen.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Thank you, everybody! I actually wore the sandals outside, so I guess I am keeping. It is a blistering hot day here and they did rub a bit. But I recalled as I was wearing them that my old ones did, too, and they broke in nicely after a couple of wears. So I'm crossing fingers and keeping blister stick and blister pads at the ready.

Texstyle, I have a strapless bra. It's not the best fit on me (cups a bit small and band a bit big, alas) but done up on the tightest hook it still works passably until I can get another one. I do have a bra for wearing with racerbacks but it doesn't work with a full on halter. Oh- and the dress is not backless, like a traditional halter -- it has just a keyhole opening in the back.

  • Nicole D replied 10 years ago

I love that dress on you!  Lovely neckline, very flattering.  I like how the sandal choice really changes the look from dressy to casual.  I like both looks.  I wish dress length was more accurate in photos!  Even when they give the measurements and height of model, I have had many surprises when I get the actual dress (both ways).

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

Love, love, love the dress!!!  Akeeper for sure!

The sandals are keepers IF they pass the comfort test. If not, I wouldn't try to make them work. Comfort is key!

  • replied 10 years ago

The sandals look wonderful on you (love them with your denim skirt and pink clutch) and the dress is the perfect cut for you. Keep! I'm so with you on not keeping things that we aren't "feeling"! Life is too short.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Love this dress & the fact it is navy :) Can see how the other one wasn't "you" & it is good that you so easily passed it on. Hope the sandals turn out to be comfy - they look good & the colour is fab.

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago

The dress is way cute. The sandals I like too. I could go either way with the sandals, but depending on what else you've seen and how well this fits a wardrobe hole in terms of color and style, you should hold on to them.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

I like them both.  I love the sandals with the shorts and pencil skirt.  The dress, due to the length, needs more refined footwear so I prefer it with the strappy black sandals.

Where is the pink clutch from?  It's a great piece.  Is it leather?

  • Nanabear replied 10 years ago

Both look like keeps to me.  I think you paired them with outfits very well.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Gosh Suz, as much as I liked the other dress on you, this one really IS more you! It will serve the same purpose as the other while being more true to your esthetic. I hope the sandals ease up on your feet, they look great!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Denise, you are so right. I think the dress needs the more delicate sandal. So I have those black ones, plus my Sam Edelmans -- that should be enough choices for it.

The pink clutch was an absolute steal from Danier. I have not seen another like it. Every now and then they have a sale of items that are not in their store or website -- sort of a sidewalk sale. It is buttery soft leather, and I got it for $20. It can be held as a clutch, it has a wrist strap, OR it can be used cross body. And it has those little credit card holders inside, plus phone pocket, etc, making it quite practical.

Thank you for the support on the dress, all. I am keeping the sandals but will wear them in carefully, and take Denise's advice about not wearing them with this dress. She is the styling queen!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Absolutely LOVE this dress on you Suz - beautiful pattern and fit. Adore that high halter neckline on you.

I also really like the sandals and do not find them too clunky at all. If they break in nicely wearing around the house, then definitely keep.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

I think the dress is an unequivocal keeper. I love it on you. I like the sandals too, but with more reservations - the straps seem a bit high on the ankle, which might translate to being uncomfortable. I love the colors, but am mindful that you are not happy about your gold sandals and am wondering if you are moving in a more refined shoe style. So, in short, if they are comfortable they are definitely worthy to be among your sandals but are not THE sandals if you know what I mean. You do look terrific in all the pictures, I must add!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Shevia, you summed up my feelings about the sandals, too. They are not the ideal. But they will work with a lot of my outfits for now and if I can break them in, will be useful.

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

I like both the sandals and the dress! Is the tie made such that you can position it so you have the versatility to belt as well? That could be a fun additional styling option (although too hot probably...)

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

The dress is beautiful and fits you perfectly. I hope the sandals work out!

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

Great finds, Suz. That dress is so great on you! And the sandals are super - hope they get comfie.

  • Ariadne replied 10 years ago

Whoa!  I have that EXACT dress, from last season, only it's maxi length.  I had a thread a while back asking whether I should hem it.  Now I know, because I love it in this length on you!  Love the sandals too.  KEEP if they are comfy.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Honestly, I have yet to see you in anything that doesn't look good. So unless I chime in just assume
I'm a keep on everything from now on. Including these!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Both look great! I enjoy seeing how your summer style is coming together and the subtle differences from Winter Suz.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

Lots to love about the dress Suz- it can be hard to find a casual dress that ticks all the boxes as this one does!

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Love the sandals(esp worn with darker skirt) and the dress, too. Pls keep them both. fab pieces!
