NAS Canada

....appears, at least so far, to be a disappointment. Almost nothing on my wish list available at all, and if it is available, it's only available in black (not the range of colours) or it's not in my size (bras). Except for jeans -- a few of which show up.

Looks like I'll be saving my pennies for later, because I won't be going down to the US and haven't figured out ordering from there to the Island.  But I will enjoy it all vicariously!

    Well darn. :-( That's disappointing.

I've basically tried or ordered everything that appealed to me that I also thought would be useful, with the knowledge in mind that it won't all work. But the dominant colors this year are not my favorite -- except for teal, and I think I've tried ALL THE TEAL, LOL.

I hope you find some goodies elsewhere.

  • Inge replied 2 years ago

    Ugh, that is very frustrating!!-((
I especially find it annoying when you *know* all kinds of amazing colour options are available, and then all you get access to is black, sigh.

  • Irina replied 2 years ago

Exactly my feelings! I don’t think I will find anything at all. A couple of jeans I’m interested in priced @ $200. That is not in my price range.
So, this is going to be like previous years, I will skip NAS completely.

  • bridgie replied 2 years ago

So sorry, Suz.  I know it is frustrating. I hope other nice things will turn up for you real soon.

  • gryffin replied 2 years ago

Sorry Suz. That’s disappointing. Nordstrom does give Canadians short shrift. If it’s any consolation. I can’t shop till the 28th. The only thing I wanted was the VB navy hoodie Dickey. It sold out the first day and hasn’t been back. I won’t be holding my breath. On to other things and just more for later.

  • Ginger replied 2 years ago

That is such a bummer! Do you think things will come back "in stock" or is this the full selection?

  • JAileen replied 2 years ago

That’s so frustrating.  In the US NAS, there was a lot of black, too.  Way too much.

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Thanks for commiserating, all. It's the full (very limited) selection, Ginger, although they may have more items in store. Now that I live in a city without a store, I won't be able to find out. Oh well. C'est la vie.

I actually had a surprisingly GOOD (though small) NAS last year ordering all online from Canada, so this was a bit of a surprise. I knew they wouldn't have most of the stuff I wanted this year, but hoped for a few items. And I may still get lucky with one or two things -- I'll keep looking.

Not a big deal since I truly don't *need* anything and can absolutely wait until later in the season to buy new things. And next year I'll hope to go down to Seattle. :)

What I got last year, below. Of course, last year I needed/ wanted gear plus that Barefoot Dreams sweater (which I use for loungewear only) -- so that affected my success. Those departments are pretty well stocked in Canada as well as in the US.

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Ooh, but Janet, look! I can actually get the Kurt Geiger bag if I like! In the gunmetal. Thank you again! I probably will order that, since it will be useful and it looks like a good size for me.

  • Murph11 replied 2 years ago

A bust :-(  Well, you'll have to settle for your fond memories of all the success you had while shopping with Angie in-person at NAS!

  • rachylou replied 2 years ago

    Oh how rotten :p

  • slim cat replied 2 years ago

That's sad. Hope something will be available again.
I'll probably skip all the sale this year, but there is a pair of ECCO black boots that look promising - might be out of stock by the time I'm able to shop ;) .

  • Peri replied 2 years ago

Sounds even worse than here, but I'm commiserating because most of my top choices sold out before I could shop and so far haven't come back. I've ordered a few things. But you are right...saving pennies! I'm sure I'll find something else to buy.

  • Style Fan replied 2 years ago

I have given up on the NAS for myself.  I do like seeing what others have picked out to get ideas.  Nordstrom Canada has been a disappointment for me.  The Bay, TNT and some others have a much better selection.

  • replied 2 years ago

Well I put together a short wish list - screen shots below - but I don’t have access die for another 10 (I think ) days will am not holding out much hope . It did seem to be a sea of black Zella workout wear , more loungewear , and so little in footwear . The only pieces that were on my fall / immediate list are the silver sneakers and the jewellery . The rest is extra

  • Barbara Diane replied 2 years ago

Bummer Suz. I found that other than teal, there was nothing in a color I liked, or the colors weren't available in my size. One teal jacket on it's way to me, all the rest black or gray.

  • replied 2 years ago

Janet - what’s TNT ? The Toronto denim store ?

  • Inge replied 2 years ago

Yay! Loving that gunmetal bag for you, Suz, it adds fun subtle bling and will go with so many things already in your wardrobe.

  • Janet replied 2 years ago

Oh yay for the gunmetal bag, Suz! I think you will like it if the size works for you. It's *just* big enough for me for a day bag as long as I don't need to carry any extras. I have the Minkoff nylon bag for that! Haha, we will be gunmetal bag twins.

I'm always floored by the difference in CAN and USA prices. The Edelman sneakers are $49 here and $79 there.

  • Runcarla replied 2 years ago

I was looking at the treasure and bond jacket myself.  Nice piece!

  • Nadya replied 2 years ago

Oh, do I sympathize, Suz! So often plus sizes get items  onky in black that straight sizes have in other colors. Glad you found that handbag!

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Nadya, yes -- that is so true. I am often appalled at the lack of variety for plus sizes. Even where variety is available to "regular" sizes.

Lisa P, that looks like a good selection. I'm strangely not attracted to that Treasure and Bond jacket, even though it's clearly my colour palette. I have photos of myself in the late 80s/ early 90s wearing those loose jackets with wide shoulders and I shudder now at the sight of myself in them. Somehow a bad look for someone with my proportions. But I think it would be brilliant on a true IT body type or someone a bit taller than me.

Thanks for the extra info on the bag, Janet, and for the vote of confidence, Inge! I think the bag will be just right for times I don't need one of my humongous sacks, LOL.

  • replied 2 years ago

It's not my colour at all  - and I honestly don't have a need for it, but am attracted to the disconnected look of the plaids. If it were a plain plain, I wouldn't look twice at it but something is grabbing me.  You're much better attuned to proportions than I am, so thank you for giving me something to watch for if I do order it.

  • kkards replied 2 years ago

Lol on the pricing difference. Yup, we pay less for NAS (maybe clothing over all), but we also have to worry about being bankrupted by an illness/medical situation, so….

  • smittie replied 2 years ago

Suz, You win some and you lose some. You also have to be in the mood for all the shopping, right?
I’m excited for the “save the duck” puffers and the LaC. Boots :-)

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Smittie, those look great for you! I would be going for those boots if I were still in Ontario, for sure.

Kkards -- very true re the medical stuff. I am grateful for that.

Lisa, I think the jacket could work brilliantly on you -- and now that I have seen it on Christina I'm more tempted to try it myself, LOL. Anyway -- you have an inch or two on me and I think the ability to wear that shape. A lot depends on the details of the cut and the ones I had in the early 90s were not just oversized but (quite honestly) probably too big for me in the first place. So...

  • Inge replied 2 years ago

Suz - LOL!! And I so hear you :-)))

  • smittie replied 2 years ago

Oh right! You don’t need winter boots anymore! Or at least, you don’t need to be constantly buying new ones!

  • Marilyn replied 2 years ago

Nordstrom Canada has been mostly a disappointment in terms of merchandise since it opened so my expectations were low for NAS.  I continue to be disappointed that we can no longer order from the US considering they ship all over the world.  I had to use Reship to get matching undies from the US for a bra I bought in Canada because half the time they don't stock matching pieces. So stupid!

  • replied 2 years ago

Hi Marilyn - nice to see you again!  I am super disappointed too - it's eliminated so many labels and brands that we used to have access to.

  • Runcarla replied 2 years ago

I know this thread is about Nordstrom’s, but after my own disappointment with Nordies, I want to give a shout out to HBC (The Bay).  I know the actual B&M stores can be a jumbled nightmare - but their online shopping has been amazing over the past 18 months.  I’ve been able to refresh my u-wear, pick up clothes from several categories (bottoms, tops, outerwear), footwear, a wallet, a bag, etc.  Deliveries were free and fast, and the few returns I made managed quickly and efficiently credited back to my card.  Best of all, I’ve been able to find some of Angie’s Fab Finds on their site.  The HBC site also carries Saks stuff since the stores are somehow linked.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 2 years ago

So disappointing! I'm glad you can get the bag, though. It's very pretty in person.

  • Helena replied 2 years ago

Thanks for sharing this Suz ... I was wondering about that, as I've clicked a few things from here and other sites, but when I try to find them on the Canadian site, no luck :( Glad you had a small amount of success at least!

  • Style Fan replied 2 years ago

Lisa, I am sorry to not reply for so long.  I didn't check this thread.

TNTfashion is a store in Toronto that carries lines like Acne Studios, Nili Lotan, etc.  It is in Yorkville.  They have a website.

  • Marilyn replied 2 years ago

Hi, Lisa! Yes, I guess I've been on a bit of a hiatus. :) Must start popping in more.

  • Angie replied 2 years ago

That sucks. I empathize with Team Canada :(

Why can't Nordies Canada and Nordies USA simply stock the same items! It would eliminate much frustration and disappointment.

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Thank you all for commiseration and support! It's really mystifying why they can't let us order the same merchandise, or at least most of it.

To make matters worse, when I did figure out an order, they cancelled half of it! I decided to stock up on some undies in a colour to match two of my current bras -- but am only getting one pair.

I did manage to order some bras (not on the US site) but am not sure they will work. I decided to go back on my vow not to buy undies since it is definitely cheaper when I can find them and on re-examination, a few of my other bras were looking tired.

Anyway -- the bag is the only item I'm really looking forward to. The rest is socks and one pair of underpants. :)

Carla, I am going to investigate the Bay again. They've frustrated me beyond belief in the past (the stores and the online experience) but it sounds as if they have stepped up their online game. Good to know.

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Oops, spoke too soon -- they just cancelled my last pair of undies. OY vey.

This is very frustrating. I'd say they had more options at last year's sale than this year's -- and surely supply is not the problem this year to the extent it might have been last year.

  • replied 2 years ago

I have had good experiences with the Bay online - shipping is very quick and returns are super easy to do in store .  With regards to NAS in Canada, it's been a complete bust for me. Every single thing I put on my wish list was gone when I was able to order, and  I've checked back a few times and all are still sold out. I'm not buying into that emotional "wish list building " exercise again . I really don't have time nor the interest in checking back and stalking things - it's a turn-off more than anything for a shopper like me.

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Yes, I get it, Lisa. I'm not into it, either.

    Onwards to the Bay!

  • Angie replied 2 years ago

I'm a poor stalker too. Onward, indeed!

Suz and LisaP, I wonder if it's worth talking to Nordies about on their FB page? If you feel like it....

  • replied 2 years ago

Eh - I don’t spend enough anymore for them to pay attention to me . I’m not a card holder either .

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

I might just do that, Angie. Thanks.

  • Sal replied 2 years ago

I think supply is a real issue this year because demand is higher - and Production is badly impacted in many places such as India, Vietnam and Thailand that were not as affected last year. Shipping channels are also under huge stress - possibly more here than in North America - for logistical reasons. Let alone the extra precautions in place along the way….

Different market I know but at the moment bikes and tennis balls are in very very short supply. There is demand but no supply……

I had to replace my phone. I basically said - what do you have in stock - retailers were advertising some models but delivery was months out…..

I think the rest of the year will be like this - it is frustrating when retailers are tempting you but can’t deliver.

  • Angie replied 2 years ago

Sal, thank you for your thorough and level headed explanations. They make a LOT of sense. Very good reminders that we are still in the middle of a global pandemic, and that life is no way near smooth sailing - especially in an industry that was struggling before the pandemic.

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Very good points, Sal. I agree with all you have said. It doesn't fully explain the difference between availability of items between Canada and the US (if they can be had in the US from this merchant, why not Canada) but the Canadian market is so much smaller -- they probably want to play it safe. And costs are high to send items across the border willy nilly. It might just cause too much confusion. So they are playing it safe.

  • Sal replied 2 years ago

Yes I am not sure why there is different treatment of Canada and the US - it doesn’t seem the way to win over Canadian customers.

I sometimes feel that way with Australian retailers in NZ - they add on $20 when the ER suggests it should be $8-$10 and the range is not as good.

  • missvee replied 2 years ago

Like many, I was lukewarm on the Canada sale, but I did order the Lex boots and a pair of Vince Caputo mules.  Both are going back.  The mules are particularly poor quality, and the boots are just not my style, plus they have a broken zipper which makes me wonder about their quality too.  It was worth a try, but I won’t count on the NAS the way our US neighbours can.
