Online order success!

I'm going to be a bit more scarce than usual for the next few days due to family obligations, but I just wanted to let you know:

1. The wedding was lovely and I'll report about it soon - thank you for your good wishes and for all your help with my WTW questions.

2. I just picked up an online order across the border and have met with almost perfect success! And all of it is due to Angie's recommendations and YLF insider tips.

Things I got and plant to keep, thanks to your wisdom:

1. Gee Wa Wa cool tan/ taupe flat boots with pointy toes --- this was thanks to a tip from Parsley that they would work for narrower, shorter calves. They are an almost perfect bookend to my hair. I am not 100% sure how I will wear them yet, but at the ridiculously low price from Shoebacca, they are worth the experiment. I know for sure they will work with the new cream jeans. Parsley, if you read this, I will be hitting you up for suggestions as to how to deal with those back laces. I want to find a way to tuck them in.

2. Sam Edelman Okalas -- this was magic -- they had sold out in my size but I just happened to check again and one pair had been returned. They are perfection! Thank you, Angie, and all the other Fabbers who have raved about them. I kept thinking they are not for my climate, but then decided....I can wear them from about June through early October. So they're worth it. LOVE them.

3. Citizens of Humanity "Racer" skinnies. I have never had a pair of jeans from this company but they were on substantial discount at Nordstrom's so I decided to give them a try. They're a perfect, comfortable fit, not calf-sucking, cut really nicely, super soft and comfortable, substantial weight, not too stretchy. On my 5'4" self they are just the right length -- not a ton of scrunch but definitely full length.

4. Kut from the Kloth "Mia" skinnies in plaid. These were an Angie recommendation. They went on super sale but didn't have my size. Angie said not to order up because they're stretchy so they wouldn't work well as slouchy jeans. Then I saw them a size down from my normal and remembered how my Diana skinnies are a bit big on me, and thought I'd give these a try. They're a perfect skinny for tucking into boots -- soft, stretchy, yet substantial. They're a bit darker in person, alas, but still very nice.

5. Two Vince boatneck tees. These were a splurge, also on sale, however. I love the way this top looks on Vicki and Jeneva and I was thinking how useful something like this would be for me.

The one item I'm not sure about is the Theory Gabe 2 B jacket. Mr. Suz thinks it does not fit correctly across the back. Since I can't see it, it's tough for me to know. It looks good in front to my eye, but I will want your opinions. One point to note...it is a size down from the Lanai and seems to fit better....so perhaps I should still try the Lanai in a size down. Hmmm.

Just wanted to share! Will hope to be checking on more threads later!

Yeah!  This makes me so happy.  You've clearly done your homework, and it's paid off!  Glad the wedding went well!

Wow, what a great haul, Suz! Everything sounds perfect for you.

Congratulations on the successful wedding! I bet you looked fab :)

Super haul!!  Can't wait to see the pictures.

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Beautiful pieces, Suz. Your research paid off with great results that seem spot on for you.

Looking forward to the wedding report- when the time is right.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Great picks here.  I can't wait to see them in action.  Nothing is better than when an order works out and you don't have to do lots of returning.  :)  I am jealous of your plaid trousers!  I always look at them, but have yet to find a pair that fit properly.  So far, they always have wavy lines with my pear shape.  But eventually I'll find a proper pair.  Until I look forward to seeing how you sport them, I think plaids are such a fun print.

OMG Suz, I am speechless, and will explain in a minute why. But I want to say first that I am glad the wedding went well, I can't wait to see some pictures, especially the outfits.  And I am so happy all these fab items work well for you. Can't wait to see them on you and how you style them.

    Onto the spooky part:
    1. I have ordered the very same boots earlier this morning, for reasons similar to yours: skinny calves, book-ending etc.
    2. I have Okalas in various online shopping carts. I am stalking them, as I want them badly, but do not want to pay the full price as I will not wear them so much with my lifestyle - they would not work for work.
    3. I have had the same COH skinnies in my Shopbop cart for a bit, also stalking them. Did not know Nordie's had them discounted, very sad I missed on that.
    4. I have been also wanting those  Mia's, and had bad luck.  I have been stalking them too, and noticed them on sale in that small size, which is my size. I was just about to pull the trigger but they were gone super fast, within a day or so :( Super sad, hope I can still find them somehow, tough not sure how.
    5. I have been admiring those tees too, but even on sale they are too pricey for me.
    6. I already own the older version of Gabe B jacket in black.  Have been in love with Lanai with it being prominently featured here, and still not decided if I should give it a try or not.
    7. I am afraid to ask you if you sent something back for sure, as it is probably also something I have been thinking about or even already bought.

So, I know we are both here on YLF, and we have very similar body types and coloring, but these are just so many coincidences that I do not know what to say... (** Twilight zone music in the background**) This surely demonstrates the power of YLF.

Wow what a great result, I can't wait for the pics. I'm sure you won't regret the Okalas. Glad the wedding went well.

Super pieces and so glad the wedding went well!

  • replied 10 years ago

I'm so glad the wedding went well! Ours was lovely too.

Wow, this is one super duper haul! I have a feeling you have diligently been stalking this stuff for a while, waiting to pounce. It also sounds like you did a lot of research before pulling the trigger. Kudos! And I'm so happy you'll have the Okalas for the Spring. I just knew you would love them if they fit! Woot!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Wow...Tanya, I am speechless! That is amazing. Clearly we have very, very similar taste! (Great taste, that is, tee hee!)

Claire is completely correct. I had been stalking almost all of this stuff for some time and was very very lucky with some super sales (for instance, the Vince tees were lower priced than the current markdown, the CoH were $100 off, and the Okalas were also on substantial markdown.) But they are all items I would have tried at full price and paid full price for....although I could not have had all of them at once at full price. It does help that I ALSO sent back a huge order to Nordstrom's today. So actually, at the end of all this, they will still owe me a little bit. ;)

I figured I could always pop it straight back in the mail if it didn't work. The only items I'm not 100% convinced about are those Vince tees...seems an awful lot of money to spend on a modal top. But on the other hand, I've had a similar top  in a turtleneck version for about 3 seasons and have worn it non stop and it still looks good. So...crossing fingers the long term CPW is good on these.

Tanya, I hope the boots work out for you. The fit is really good and so adjustable and the leather is nice on them -- very soft. My only issue is how to do the laces so they're not tied in a knot or bow in the back. I don't mind the lace up look on the back but do not like dangling ends.

The Okalas would be brilliant for you and on you. Definitely hold out for a sale price (as I did). But the lucky thing is that these are clearly a hugely popular style for Sam and I'll bet more colours will appear in the spring on these.

I got the CoH jeans about a month ago -- I think it was before the mid-season sale, weirdly enough. And maybe they only had certain sizes. I can't remember. I ordered the Gabe jacket at the same time and there was a sale plus an extra 20% off of Theory the day I ordered it. So while it wasn't cheap, it was considerably discounted.

The Mias were a super lucky break. I really wanted them but they were only in a size up and Angie told me not to bother with that. It turned out she was completely correct. The 4 would have been way too big.

I haven't sent anything back yet. The only possible return, really, is the Gabe jacket. But more on that later.

Thanks for sharing my excitement, all! It's amazing when an online order works out so well! Una had this experience recently. I guess I had it coming to me after so many returns earlier in the autumn.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Woo-hoo! This is indeed magic! Online orders are tricky especially when you have to pick them up over the border!
I am so excited for you and hope that it was just a stray wrinkle from the packing on Gabe jacket which misled Mr Suz. :-)
I am waiting for the pictures impatiently...

  • Windchime replied 10 years ago

You're on a roll, Suz-- the wedding and now the successful order! It's fun to read your excitement about both. I bet some of the items in your order can play nicely with each other.

Will look forward to wedding details, when you have time. :)

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I can't wait to hear about the wedding, and am already missing your forum scarcity.

I am celebrating your happy purchases with a huge smile and jig. Well done. You might enjoy shopping after all. (((hugs)))

We'll help you out with the Gabe as soon as you are ready. xo

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

    Oh, YAY, Suz!
I'm so happy that your orders worked out so well!
I can't wait to see everything.

About the laces on the boots:
I've been tying them in a bow and then tucking the bow down into the back of the boots so it doesn't show. Sometimes it doesn't stay well, though, so I'd like to find a way to secure the laces better. Honestly, I don't really need to readjust them since there's a zipper, so I've though about securing them on the inside with my hot glue gun, or something like that.

I'd welcome any solutions you might come up with.

  • Angela K replied 10 years ago

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together! Congrats in the awesome purchases. I am loving the Okalas. Definitely on my most wanted list and I really love the plaid skinnies. But those are just my favs. Everything you chose is definitely fab. I can't wait to see all your WIW posts. Now you get to play with all your new pieces. That's always my favorite part (well, after the thrill of the deal of course!) ;) Enjoy!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Where are the pictures?  *taps foot*

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Also can't wait to hear (see) about the wedding, and see all these purchases in action or at least on you! Indeed you and Tanya have GREAT taste!

  • Ariadne replied 10 years ago

Hooray! That must be a great feeling.  I love all your selections, especially the plaid skinnies. Can't wait for pics.

    Also looking forward to pics!

  • Gracie replied 10 years ago

Congrats on all af the items that worked for you in your order, way to go! Specially looking forward to your styling of the jeans and the plaid slacks and how they will play with your existing wardrobe. I'll miss your frequent posts and hope that you have a great visit with your family.

  • E replied 10 years ago

Oh I'm so jealous of those boots! :o Congrats on such a successful order: you're so thoughtful & diligent I'm glad it paid off. :)

And super big congrats that the wedding went well! My sister's is this upcoming Sunday and as it's outdoors we've all been stalking the weather reports. Fingers crossed!

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

    Congratulations on the wedding!

    Need photos! But family first.

Much plaid envy. Can't wear skinnies. These should be great with your navy things & maybe some pattern mixing experiments.

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Wow, such a blast with your orders:-) and  of course can't wait to see the wedding!!!

  • Alassë replied 10 years ago

That's wonderful news that the entire order is a go! (Or almost.) It is a relief not to have to start the box-up routine again, isn't it.

  • Elizabeth P replied 10 years ago

    Score!
    Can't wait for pics... :)
    And a wedding report...

    Too funny about Tanya!

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

So much success! I cant wait to see some of these new pieces in action :)

  • Mona replied 10 years ago

I am glad that the wedding went well and your online ordering was a major success. This does not happen very often so congratulations! Looking forward to see some of these pieces in WIW's soon.

  • replied 10 years ago

Congrats on the super haul, Suz! Maybe it's because I love shoes and boots more than just about anything else, but I'm especially happy that you found the right boots.

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 10 years ago

I am so very excited that everything has fallen into place for you, both with the wedding, and your online shopping!   Hooray!   I cannot wait to see pictures, whenever you are able to post them.   Even if it's February :) :) :)
