Ooops! Shopping spree!

Ok. I said I needed to replace a few essentials but I've gone on an (online) shopping spree! I've ordered a whole pile of items and have plans for even more. Mind you, much of this stuff will likely go back. Still....

Not including the socks, here's what I'm looking at so far....some gear items, some PJs. pants, tops, a dress, oh my!

These are all replacements for worn out or tired items in the closet.

Nice replacements. My favorite is the red coat.  I will be watching for late season sales to do this for next year.  I need to make a plan for replacement.  So far I hope to replace grey with brown and cut back on number of items.

Sounds like they all have a known place in your wardrobe, so, enjoy!
I'll take the purple and red items :)

Good job! I especially like all the long cardigans and the dress looks very promising! The PJs - cute and cozy. You made me want to get some new winter PJs :-)
Fingers crossed that many of these fab items will work out for you!

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 2 years ago

Oo, I like the dress. I have a summer version of it that worked out very well for me.

I laughed when I read “Oops! shopping spree!” When I get the chance, my mindset is “Yay! Shopping spree!”
You have identified needs in your wardrobe and found great replacement pieces.  I am loving the dress and long cardi. The pajamas look very inviting, too! Good luck with your pieces. I hope you are able to claim many winners!

Oooh I'll take one of each too please!! Methinks those jammies will be perfect stocking stuffers for myself :D

Great job Suz can't wait to see it all in action!

  • RobinF replied 2 years ago

That is fun! Hope they work out!

  • Tanya replied 2 years ago

So many lovely items, I especially like the dress - what a pretty color!  Hope a big percentage of these works out for you.

  • JAileen replied 2 years ago

The red coat really has your name on it.  I found a never worn Armour Luxe top at the thrift store several years ago.  Such nice quality.  I wondered why someone would donate a new top, and I thought it might have to do with their sizing which doesn’t relate to regular sizing.

  • SarahD8 replied 2 years ago

These all look like really nice purchases! And what's more, they all look like you. Great job focusing on things that will get lots of wear in your real life and not neglecting the basics.

Once, back in my gear years, a sales associate at Eddie Bauer recognized me and asked, "Here for your seasonal shop?" She told me she remembered that I tended to come in and buy a bunch of updates at once instead of stopping in on a regular basis.

That seems to be how you shop too, and with such a small NAS this year, it only makes sense that your updates might come in a chunk as the season got into full swing. These mostly look like useful essentials and cozy loungewear for the months ahead. Have you purchased any statements recently, or is this just an essentials sort of year?

  • Gail replied 2 years ago

Lots of nice things . Super interested to see how you like the long sleeved dress .

  • Jonesy replied 2 years ago

Fun! I love the striped items, especially, and the puffer looks so cheerful!

  • kkards replied 2 years ago

well lets see, you moved to a different climate, your now teaching and on campus a number of days a week, and yup, it might be that you need to update and replenish

  • kkards replied 2 years ago

& i love the mix of gear and fashion and basics and lounge. nicely done.

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Thanks for enabling, everyone! We'll see how these things work out. Some of them may go straight back and in some cases, I'll be deciding between a few options. But I'm realizing how long it has been since I did a real update/ replacement shop, so....

Jen, that's a great question. My default shopping style always favours essentials (I have an essential heavy closet). But also, my statements tend to last longer in my closet. So I feel less genuine need for updated statements. But also, I think I just haven't had a chance to think hard enough about what would really be useful to me as a statement. Time to think now!

  • replied 2 years ago

Awesome selections! Adore the color of dress :)

  • Sal replied 2 years ago

Looking forward to the try ons!!

I think essentials are easier to buy online but often statements get found in person or second hand.  Not always the case but often for me....

  • Jenni NZ replied 2 years ago

Surely that red coat is a statement :)

  • CarolS replied 2 years ago

Such a nice little spree, Suz! Do you have other Kit & Ace items in your wardrobe? I've seen ads and like the look and descriptions of the pieces, but have never seen or tried on in person, so am curious to learn more.

I've never thought about ordering from M&S, but now I might need to look into what colours are available in that modal top and the merino jumper.

Good luck and please keep us posted on how things work out.

  • Jaime replied 2 years ago

Fun! Can't wait to see what you think and how you style these. Especially curious about the stripes and jeans. I have been looking around for the elusive stripe matching striped top and these look promising.

  • Brooklyn replied 2 years ago

I’m liking those orchid purple items. Nice colour! And a bit of a change for you.

  • LaPed replied 2 years ago

I know this feeling! I haven't done a big batch order, but I have noticed that the basics and essentials sections of my closet seem to be in constant need of updating. For one thing, I've spent substantially more time outdoors in 2020-2021 than in 2018-2019, which has meant heavy wear for gear and casual, much less for anything office-y (or classroom-y). I really need to look for/make opportunities to wear anything that isn't suitable for tromping. :) The other factor, in my mind, is that the pandemic is a bit of a time warp. Things that I bought in early 2020 still feel new because I feel like nobody's seen them but me. I was looking at some loungewear and sneakers that are on their way out, thinking, "Already?!" and then realized I've been wearing them for the better part of two years.

All of these potential additions look perfect for you and your current lifestyle. I'll be very curious to hear what the keepers are!

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

LaPed, exactly! There's a time warp factor for sure, especially for the heavily worn items. I just retired a pair of jeans (ripped beyond repair on a recent walk)  thinking they were "new" but then I realized they're actually four years old. My gear and PJs also saw much higher wear than usual in the past two years and wore correspondingly faster, whereas jackets and dressier booties got next to no wear and now that I've hauled them out for work, I keep scratching my head and saying, wait, really, you are SEVEN years old? There are certain items I feel two contradictory things about: 1). I'm sick of looking at you, and 2). but I've hardly worn you!!

Sal, that is a great point about statements being easier to buy in person. I do tend to buy them on consignment (or did, in Vancouver). Having said that, I got the great Kate Hewko skirt on line and that counts as a statement for sure!

LOL, Jenni -- red's a neutral! In all seriousness, I don't have high hopes for that coat. I'm almost 100% sure it won't work out, but I wanted to try just in case.

Shevia, these would upgrade/ replace some very worn older LL Bean tops. Though I'm not sure they are actually similar enough. We shall see.

I definitely need to do a major closet overhaul, though. So much is feeling past its prime.

How exciting! Have you worn Kit and Ace pants before? I have been tempted but haven't tried them. Frankly I think the models don't look super great in them, so that's part of my hesitation. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, since each model is just one person, but generally retailers can make their clothes look good on the models. I'm eager to see how they work for you. I am tempted to copycat the Club Monaco sweater, too.

  • sarah replied 2 years ago

I love how you've so deliberately and thoroughly embraced a new color palette that complements your lovely hair.

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Sharan, I have a pair of Kit and Ace pants that I LOVE. But they don't make the pants in this fabric any more, so I'm not sure how I'll feel about the new ones. Crossing fingers. If they don't work, they go straight back!

I know what you mean about their photos. I think it might be a version of the "real world" imaging some companies do -- the models are not always rail thin, the clothes are worn the way real people (who commute on their bikes) might wear them, etc.

  • Stagiaire Fash replied 2 years ago

A question about the tulle skirt, which still blows me away—is the plaid on the tulle itself and the lining is navy or black, or is it the other way ‘round (plaid sturdier fabric under solid color tulle)? I have a dress from bitd that needs serious re-imagining before I’ll want to wear it. I’m wondering if tulle might play a role in that.

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

The plaid is on the tulle and the underskirt is navy. I had wondered if it would "read" as plaid, but it does.

  • Stagiaire Fash replied 2 years ago

    Thanks.

  • Runcarla replied 2 years ago

The plum pieces and the red puffer are yummy!
