Or...True style blends fashion and practicality.

I was going to wear my new 2 piece dress with sheer hose and my silver booties the other night.

But I was walking and then taking the bus. And it was cold and very windy. So....outfit formula to the rescue. Luckily the venue was quite casual.

I layered a sweater over the 2 piece and under it, Heatech leggings and wool socks. Stompy boots. Wool coat and hat and gloves. And off I went. Luckily, the venue was quite casual.

I felt a little bit early 30s in this.

Looks pretty and comfy - love the brightness of your accessories!

You look gorgeous and warm, definitely stylish and not a compromise. I really like how versatile your Paul Green boots are.

This reminds me of when Jennifer Lawrence was promoting Red Sparrow where everyone was shocked that she was in a revealing dress whilst her co-stars wore coats. I think she would have looked even more fabulous in a coat. Freezing for fashion is not stylish.

I love this! Retro inspired, practical, and looks very “you.” I love it.

This is fantastic, Suz. Quite a fancy casual.

Charming. And yes, a bit early 1930s--a period I love, fashionwise.

  • Cardiff girl replied 4 years ago

yes!Its the cloche hat isn’t it that gives a 30s vibe, love how you can put together such a smart outfit even in grim weather.

Suz, you are a great expert on how to stay warm and be elegant at the same time. I have to take lessons from you (freezing temps these days here). The outfit is lovely. I agree with Cardiff girl, it's the cloche that gives the 30s vibe.

Yes, true style despite the weather. You do know how to blend practical warmth with your style. Fabulous, just fabulous!

Love it! Modern retro, fun, stylish and sensible!

Smart in every sense of the word. Love the contrast between a flapper cloche and the worker’s pea coat: so true to your style.

I love it! Looks great but also warm and cozy! I tend to just not wear skirts in the winter but maybe I should rethink that.

  • nemosmom replied 4 years ago

Wow, you look great! Please repeat this one - it's too good!

  • Janet replied 4 years ago

Your red accents really shine. I love how versatile these pieces are!

That hat is the bomb!! Love it on you!

  • replied 4 years ago

Love your hat and scarf especially!

  • Suz replied 4 years ago

Red is best! In cold weather it's really mood-lifting and warm. Plus, it's my colour of the year. Knew I could count on Carla especially to understand that! And Mainelady, if anyone can blend style with weather, you can!

Robin, skirts can work great in winter if you wear fleece lined tights or long underwear with them instead of sheer hose. Heattech is fabulous. I like that they don't get as slush stained when I walk. The only problem for me with skirts/ dresses in winter is that I don't always have the right coat (still don't have *my* perfect midi coat); and it tends to create an overall dark on the bottom outfit (because the tights are dark).

NancyW -- that is a great observation. The cloche was really a 20s style but put it together with the men's work jacket and the boot style and you get the impression of someone wearing her old hat in the next decade. :)

Great outfit! I also love how your scarf brings out your fab boots.

  • kellygirl replied 4 years ago

So fab! The red footwear and the red hat are such happy pieces!! Nothing beats being stylish and warm!

    KILLER Modern Retro Playfulness :)

This output makes me smile! Especially since we got the boots together.

    Nailed it!
Gosh I love that scarf... every time you show it, I kick myself for not pursuing it way back.  But if memory serves me, it was going to be a major pita, or $$

  • Inge replied 4 years ago

This is just so good, Suz, I'm smiling from ear to ear!

I have a love for midi skirts with practical shoes and tights....It really works with the trumpet style skirt.

    You look stylish and cosy!!

I love this outfit - you look wonderful! This inspired me to find some similar boots for "bus outfits" this winter.

Love the way you winterized your gorgeous twin set dress, and love the association with the early 30s in that, beautiful era!:-)
