Pardon my rant

I beg your pardon in advance. I want to say something very nasty.

(I won't say it, but I will complain.)

I am on the hunt for a simple silk shell to wear with the suit. I have done all the brick and mortar stores in Kingston that I am aware of, including our consignment store. NADA.

So I go online. Here is this decent looking, well reviewed shell. YAY - it is on sale, and there is one left in a size that works for me (4P) in winter white, which should work pretty well, right? So I go to order it.

Do you know how much they want to ship this into Canada? More than $25. Plus $15 other taxes. So my $53 shell becomes a $94 dollar extravaganza.

I didn't order it. I just can't stomach that. It probably weighs less than a regular letter!!!

Fifty One, I do not like you. Not one little bit.

ETA:  I would be more than willing to pay much more for a fabulous top, even if very simple. It is just that I can't bear that markup for no reason.

banana republic has some too. I think they ship to CA? so sorry about the shipping Suz.

and I am saying &*%! right alongside you.

Suz, they are probably having to pay VAT and tariffs, sadly.  Not that that is an excuse.

    I totally commiserate with this.
    Here are some possible options:

I share your anger, Suz. It's the same here: every time I have ordered something from the US, the shipping was extravagantly costly and the Irish duties were around 38%. In fact, it's cheaper to buy from China, where the stuff is made anyway.

Shipping Rights for our Canadian sisters!  Seriously what ever happened to the "Global Marketplace?"

I live in Illinois.  We know rants.

Suz, send it to me and i will drive over the border to deliver it. I want you to look fab...no, INCOMPARABLE for this event.

    That's crazy!

Just lots of sympathy from me. It doesn't make much sense, does it.

DId you check Melanie Lyne?  I got a lined polyester shell there that is perfect.  I detest non-free shipping.

I've often thought this situation would drive me buggy if I were on the wrong end of it. Of course you can't stand it! I often pay shipping because I don't have good B&M options. I tell myself that if I drove 100 miles, I'd have to pay gas and buy a coffee and a snack, so it works out. But what you have to pay is nothing like this. I feel bad for you!

I was looking for silk tops myself today and I found a few at Zalando. This very simple one is my favorite: http://www.zalando.at/hallhube.....o-a00.html.

I am afraid they do not ship to Canada, but for those living in Europe... it's a no-fuzz free shipping website.

I hear you Suz. Australia is worse believe me - I only bought the SE boots because they were on sale so that paid for the duties.

I'm so sorry for your frustration! I'm lamenting the general lack of silk - it seems like decent affordable silk used to be much more prevalent and I barely see it these days.

I hear ya, Suz! It outright sucks!

Ugh; sometimes I think it's cheaper to buy an airplane ticket and fly down to pick it up (close!) :p

Do NOT even get me started!!!

:(  Any seamstresses in your area?  Seems like you could have a custom killer shell made for you for less than that.  S/H, taxes, and duty look like a killer.

Suz, commiserations! I get it. I want to order a dress later in the year from Canada and the postage is going to be $40.00. The dress isn't cheap so i am conscientiously saving my Paypal dollars:). It just doesn't seem reasonable.

    This is insane!!!

Do you have a Guess By Marciano in K? I discovered they have some very classic cuts, despite their off-putting body-con displays.

    Example:
    http://guessbymarciano.guess.c.....32H3200000
    http://guessbymarciano.guess.c.....31H6400000
    or in "crystal mauve"
    http://guessbymarciano.guess.c.....31H4000000

There is one here, I could maybe ship you something, from them or from somewhere else? Or maybe they would ship it to you from their store?

You know I think shipping rates like those to Canada are particularly ridiculous! I understand your frustration - for me the true frustration is how easy it is to order and return  for free in the United States - appreciate this luxury everyone!
