Polo & pants luxe

My outfit doesn't conform exactly to any of the (amazing) inspo pics from Angie's blog post (all of which I really loved) but it is what I wore tonight for a shared belated birthday celebration (for me) and a big brava for our adult kid, who recently won a literary prize. :).

 J. Crew cashmere polo (ink navy, not black, BTW).
Anthro flocked menswear trousers (ink again, with black velvet flocking).
Ecco boots, black patent.
Brave belt.
Save the Duck puffer.
Pom Pom London bag.

Lanterns in Chinatown, where the restaurant is located -- CNY parade here today! The restaurant is also Chinese inflected.

I love these pieces because they are casual yet sooooo luxe in feel. While the outfit is mostly monochrome, the bits of silver, the ponyhair silver/ grey belt, and the pearls plus patent boots (and the contrasting pearlescent oyster or abalone jacket -- when I was outdoors) give it the dynamism I enjoy. Super easy and comfortable and very "me" yet also dressed up enough for a winter night.

Thanks for looking!

Congratulations to your offspring, the apple truly does not fall far from the tree.
You look great, the pieces are each wonderful on their own, but they look absolutely amazing together.
Are the pants jacquard? I had some black jacquard pants in early 2010s that I really liked, but my husband used to  tease me saying it was upholstery material :)

You look lovely, what a wonderful outfit to celebrate. The silhouettes are very you but the beautiful mix of elevated textures and shine creates that extra special glam.

Oooooo! What prize, and for what work, Suz? Are you comfortable sharing? Perfectly fine if not!

    Great outfits, as always!

Happy belated birthday to you and congratulations to your offspring, what a fun night.

That silver/grey belt adds the perfect bit of interest to this tonal outfit and goes so well with your hair! The polo top collar frames your face nicely and the pearl puffer is a delightful finishing touch. This is a great outfit!

Great outfit! The pants would make any event festive!

    KILLER stunning, Suz! LOVE!!

As always, you look chic and elegant :)

Perfect for a smart casual Winter celebratory occasion! Congrats to you and your fab kiddo!

The high contrast silver bits - belt, jewellery, bag, and your yummy hair - make the look, AND make it you! Punchy!!!

And that's the best oyster puffer in the world.

What a fab outfit to celebrate a birthday for you and a prize winning writing achievement for your kid. The lighted street is so beautiful and festive. I had my birthday last week and it was pouring rain. We had reservations at a winery so braved the drive up the mountain and had a lovely time.

Congratulations, Suz, what a beautiful outfit for an evening out! Your pearl earrings make the outfit for me, along with your belt and boots. Well done!

  • Suz replied 1 month ago

Thanks, all! It was a fun evening and luckily it did not snow. (We've had a fair bit around here lately.)

Gingko, thanks -- the earrings are Mejuri. I don't yet have them in Finds but will put them in there soon.

Bonnie, glad you braved the rain for your celebratory meal. What did you wear?

    Angie
, agreed, best short puffer ever! Such lovely quality and it feels like a warm hug when you put it on!

Thanks, Robin, and agreed. I love these pants for their mix of femme/ androgyny. The velvet flocking is very feminine, and the menswear blue with light grey check (very subtle) gives it a sense of humour.

    Lisa, thank you!

Column, my kid won Honourable Mention in Prairie Fire's creative nonfiction contest. Prairie Fire is a well established Canadian literary journal and honourable mention is really like second prize because they only picked one winner, one runner up. Their piece will be published in the summer.

Dee, thank you! And yes, the silhouettes in a more casual fabric are exactly what I would wear every day.

Bella, I guess you might call this a jacquard...but I think the process for flocking is a little different. It's a little less "stiff" than most jacquards tend to be because the main fabric of the pants is quite lightweight and has a lot of drape to it, and the pattern on top does not feel as integral to the main fabric. It's just deposited on top somehow.

I do know what your husband means about upholstery fabric with some jacquards. My fifth grade teacher wore a lot of those and she had a tendency to look like a piece of furniture.  I tend to really like them anyway.  :)  I think the top below is a more traditional jacquard -- the pattern is woven in. Or maybe this is technically brocade.

Congratulations to Suz’s literary kid! And happy birthday to you.

Love this outfit.. the texture is fab as it the silhouette and the belt is just so stunning

Black really suits you. And a happy occasion.

  • SarahD8 replied 1 month ago

Oooh, fabulous look! I really love the pattern mixing with high-value-contrast patterns (light patterned belt & dark patterned pants). Zingy! Gamine dynamism, like I was saying. :-)

Black and ink blue, oh man, SUCH a good combination!

Also I was developing an inkling that I may specifically need some *light* colored outerwear, and you've just confirmed it. *performs Ebay search for Save the Duck brand.*

Many happy returns of the day to you and congrats to your kid!

Suz: I wore my red dress with my new boots and scarf. My wool coat worked because it was a short walk to the restaurant from the car.

Happy belated birthday and big congrats to your kid and their proud parents! Love your outfit - the silhouette is excellent, the bits of light make it you and nice touch with the snakeskin belt in Chinatown for the year of the snake!

  • Suz replied 1 month ago

Jaime, congratulations, you caught that! I kept waffling between my all silver belt and this one and at the last minute realized it is SNAKE year so went for this one! :)

Bonnie, you looked beautiful! I like that dress on you a lot. Very festive.

SarahDB -- yes, light coloured outerwear can be uplifting. Light and or bright. Especially in our grey grey climate.

Olive Green -- not much black here -- mostly blue! But a very dark ink, so it does read black in some lights.

Congrats to the kid! And lol at the teacher who looked like furniture. You look so happy and elegant!

Congratulations to you and yours, Suz! So much for conventional wisdom people can`t distinguish themselves in the arts! What a supreme honor. <3

You have never looked better, Suz. Your wardrobe never lets you down, so even for a special occasion you don’t have to run out and shop. Perfection from tip to toe.
