Recent Returns: Some Reviews

I have been making up for lost shopping time in the past few months and have ordered up so many things! I have returned most -- but some of what I returned might work for others and is mostly on sale, so a few capsule reviews:

Old Navy Sweatsuit: LisaP got me onto this; she has it in a rich brown. It's a terrific quality for the price but fits large; the jacket was too oversized in the bust/ shoulder area for my frame. And the  "greyed" colour, which promised to suit me, alas was a bit too "dirty" to work on me, after all. This could be a fantastic purchase for someone else.

Nordstrom Signature cashmere V neck: I'm sad to send this back -- it's a gorgeous quality and beautiful and interesting knit,.and the colour is beautiful, but the fit is wrong on me. Sleeves far too long (as you can see even on the model) and the dropped shoulder was too loose on me. Could work great on someone with a true IT frame.

Modern American Jeans: I wanted burgundy but these are a brown-burgundy, not red. Fit is TTS but I do not like the stretch in the fabric.

Gap full zip hoodie -- too big and bulky for me.

Gap Velour sweat suit -- loved the colour but not the quality of the velour.

Gap slim cord jeans -- these felt and looked like skinnies on me, not like slim straights, and that was not the look I wanted. Nice otherwise, though.

As you can see, I'm trying to build up my burgundy/ lilac/ current capsule. Partly because that colour looks great with the new suit. But also partly because I miss my burgundy jeans, long worn out.

Oh well -- onwards we go!

Sad none of these worked out.  I especially love those Modern American jeans. Onward, though! Luckily, these two colors still seem to be going pretty strong, so you'll have options.

According to what I’ve read lately , lilac is IT for spring . That cashmere sweater is gorgeous and I actually love those scrunchy long sleeves ! As to the ON sweatsuit , I’m glad it wasn’t $$ as it’s not the best thing I’ve ever bought. It really is supremely unflattering and adds a good 20 lbs visually ( at least I hope that’s the outfit and not me , lol) . I’d size down if I were to buy it again.

You are very disciplined about your wardrobe,it’s inspiring.l find the constant ordering and sending things back that internet shopping requires very tedious.

Sorry these didn't work out, Suz, but you know your patience will pay off. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I tried those ON sweatpants, too (in that lovely dark brown) but the cut was just 'off' for  me. Too much volume in the hips and thighs and not enough at the bottom to balance it out. I think better suited for someone with a more defined waist and hips...

I really like those eggplant jeans!

They had such potential! And what a fab palette you're building. Annoying, Suz :(

Oh, well. That's the way it goes sometimes. It's as great when things are so wrong we can say goodbye easily, and NEXT with conviction :)

Thanks for the review, Suz. I’m interested in the Modern American jeans in eggplant, thanks to you :)
I have this style in white and love it, will see if it works for me, the color is interesting.

Annoying Suz, but never mind, the right versions of these will come!

I've noticed "slim" seems to be a re-branding of "skinny" recently ... whereas before skinnies fell out of trendy favour, slim truly was a version of a straight jean ...

Helena, that's an interesting point -- I had not realized this. Good tip -- thanks!

Irina, if you like a brownish-burgundy and like the fabric of these jeans, you are in luck! I really wanted them to work...what is good for petites is that you can cut them off since they are already raw hem...

Angie, yes -- it's easy when we get that immediate feeling -- this won't work! Cardiff Girl -- I am lucky that returns are pretty simple; I just take the box to the post office and since we are never far from one on our errands, it does not cost a lot of time or effort. These stores all offer free returns as well, which also helps.

Carol, that's interesting. I found the shape of the sweatpants nice but they were really large on me and even a bit long. I could not get my regular size so took the size up and it didn't work.

Lisa, I like the sweatsuit on you! At least in the pics! And I love the little seam or pintuck down the front of the pants. Oh well -- onwards!

Jenn, I like the look of the jeans, too. If the colour were true to life, I might have kept them despite not loving the stretchy fabric.

Excellent pickiness! I have lost tolerance for stretch also - easier to do with looser styles obviously :) .

Love the colour story you’re working on, Suz.

Very judicious shopping here - I'm confident the 'right' version of these items will come along, since these all seem to be fairly trending colours (at least around here). The warm undertone of the ON sweatsuit is interesting though - can see why you were tempted by it!

I just returned all my Boden items at personal expense (guess they updated their international shipping procedures since the last time I ordered - my bad for not checking beforehand!) so good on you for knowing the free returns lol!

These are all good things to know. The devil is in the details!

Such pretty colors! Too bad they didn't work out. I admire your ability to focus on what you really need.

Thanks for the reviews, Suz.  I ordered two pairs of cords that were slim and straight.  They were skinnies on me.  I sent them back.  I think I have sent more back than I have kept in recent months.
