Red jacket

On my way and challenged myself to bring and wear the red jacket. Desperate to replace these sandals that I pulled from donate pile due to forecast for high temps later today. Not sure about photo quality.

The jacket does look good on you. Hope you enjoy wearing it.

FAB outfit!  I vote find the replacement sandals before you get rid of these as long as they are wearable, they are perfect for your wardrobe!

  • replied 5 years ago

Beautiful color on you & looks perfect with your outfit.

  • Colette replied 5 years ago

I love this jacket and love it on you. Red is your color! Really a great travel outfit! Definitely keep the sandals as a place holder until you replace them.

  • gradfashionista replied 5 years ago

Seconding Colette’s words, beautiful fit and colour on you.

  • Runcarla replied 5 years ago

You nailed it. Great travel outfit. Good luck with the TO weather and your presentation.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

On the train now. Thank you all for the kind words. This jacket is insanely comfortable!!  :)  It's the perfect topper for today. My feet are a bit chilly right now but it's supposed to get warmer. I desperately need a more closed shoe for this temperature range, though. I mean other than a sneaker.

  • Janet replied 5 years ago

Looks great! Wear and enjoy that gorgeous color. Bon voyage and good luck!

  • Marilyn replied 5 years ago

Looks great, Suz!  Red suits you.

I think a summer weight red jacket would be a great addition to your spring/summer wardrobe.

  • JAileen replied 5 years ago

I love your jacket. It looks wonderful on you.

  • Elizabeth P replied 5 years ago

You look great, Suz!  Have a wonderful trip.  And make sure you post on your travel wardrobe and Vancouver purchases :)

Why are you donating the shoes? (I guess I'm wondering if they have enough wear left in them to donate, why don't YOU wear them?)

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Elizabeth, the shoes are a mess. Quite worn and dirty looking -- they've had 2 years of hard summer wear. And they're feeling a bit dated -- I like having current footwear. I shouldn't have said donate -- these are actually for the refuse bin. Unfortunately for me, most of the current styles now will not work for me because they won't stay on my feet, but hopefully I can find something!

    Thanks, all!

  • Bijou replied 5 years ago

    You look amazing in this!

  • Roxanna replied 5 years ago

Love this, @Suz! Is that top J Crew? I have the same one. You just gave me an idea for my outfit tomorrow as I have to wear a red blazer for work reasons. I may be copying your look!

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

FABULOUS. You wear culottes soooo well. KILLER jacket. You look so elegant.

Have a good trip, and hope you find lots of good stuff.

  • Sara L. replied 5 years ago

This looks great on you!  The color of the jacket is really fab with the printed blouse and dark culottes.  Cute shoes too.  I hope you find a suitable replacement.

  • replied 5 years ago

I really like the jacket worn this way - and with the floral top , especially (your mother's twin set?) .  It's cold here today, and you're inspiring me to wear mine.  Have a great trip, and good luck with shopping!

  • unfrumped replied 5 years ago

    Super fab!
Have you figured out what had been blocking you on the jacket? I thing the “ wear challenge” is a good idea. Maybe later lay out severs outfits across seasons.
There are times I’ve threatened to toss something and finally wore it again and go, what was I thinking? This is great! Don’t know if it’s mood or occasion or what.

  • rachylou replied 5 years ago

It’s a great jacket. You look fab! Funny, I have a red jacket a bit like this that I never wear. This inspires me. I think I don’t wear it because I bought it for my emergency ‘preppy capsule.’ Which is like my ‘going to the ‘burbs capsule.’ Not my style, but every now and then, I like to visit my people :)

  • karen13 replied 5 years ago

The jacket (and entire outfit) looks great on you. Wear it more!

  • Style Fan replied 5 years ago

Great jacket Suz.  I hope you find some great shoes.  I saw some gorgeous shoes when I was looking.

  • efbgen replied 5 years ago

The jacket is beautiful on you. Whole look is great but I agree- find replacement ( mule?) but don’t be in hurry to pitch the current footwear.
    Happy shopping and safe travels

  • Cardiff girl replied 5 years ago

Lovely jacket, great outfit.Hope you have a great trip and can I suggest the purchase of some red footwear?

  • Lynn replied 5 years ago

Love this whole outfit. The floral top is great and I really like the color of the shoe. I would vote for trying to find a replacement in this color.  I sympathize with the difficulty of finding shoes. Spring/summer shoes are always especially difficult with my narrow foot.
    Enjoy your trip.

  • Elizabeth P replied 5 years ago

    Gotcha.

But I have to say, I hope that you are just finding THESE ones dated, or that you are over them because they are worn, not the style in general.  Cuz I'm still happily (looking forward to) wearing similar ones :)  I did actually see many styles like this while searching for mules, so I don't think they are "technically" dated.

I saw in your other post you are staying in Kits.  My sister lives in Kits... so if you happen to see someone with short brown hair walking a chocolate lab and an adorable 3 yr old boy... tell her I say hi!  Jealous...

  • Helena replied 5 years ago

The jacket looks so fantastic on you!

  • anchie replied 5 years ago

Great look, and jacket is fab, you should wear it more often. What type of sandals you had in mind to replace this one?

  • Thistle replied 5 years ago

Fab outfit, it looks fantastic on you!

I love that red on you.

What don't you like about the sandals?

  • Christina F. replied 5 years ago

I love love love this jacket on you. I hope you find more occasions of wearing it.

  • Dianna replied 5 years ago

Red loves you, Suz!  That jacket is fantastic and looks great on you.  You are so stylish!  What kind of shoes are you looking for?

  • Sal replied 5 years ago

You look wonderful Suz and good luck for your trip!!

  • Mainelady replied 5 years ago

Suz, your red jacket is stunning on you! I am glad to hear that it is comfortable, too. Your entire outfit looks great, even the shoes you retrieved for the trip. Beautiful and current. Have a great trip!

  • Karie replied 5 years ago

Fantastic outfit, love the jacket, super love the jeans.

  • Aida replied 5 years ago

    Lovely, Suz!

  • replied 5 years ago

Also - I feel you with the shoes . We’ve all been in *that* situation before , wishing we had something else on . You and I are alike in needing shoes to be current and even ahead of the game .

  • Eliza replied 5 years ago

You are rocking the jacket and wear culottes beautifully. I am with you on craving up-to- date shoes in great condition. They are make or break for my outfits. Everyone gets caught there sometimes. Not so obvious in your photos, though,

  • Jaime replied 5 years ago

Red jacket is fabulous! You just need silver sandals to feel perfect!

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

More love for this outfit. You need a fab lightweight red jacket to extend the season for the outfit.

  • CocoLion replied 5 years ago

The jacket is beautiful on you and fits you perfectly.  I bet it will dress down nicely as well.

  • bridgie replied 5 years ago

Beautiful jacket.  Looks great on you.

  • Jane replied 5 years ago

Gorgeous, so good that you felt very at ease in it.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Thanks, everyone, for your kind comments. I couldn't come back yesterday as I was travelling.

Those sandals have been complete workhorses but they're looking tired in person, and LisaP and Eliza are right -- I really like to have current footwear. Sadly, a lot of the most current styles won't work for my own feet, so my hunt may be a long one. I'd love to have a red pair, Cardiff Girl! That's been a HEWI, actually, for a few seasons.

Unfrumped, I think I just didn't have enough occasions to wear the jacket before -- it's a bit too dressy for my ordinary life, but for going to the city and giving a presentation, excellent. Plus, the weather. It was the perfect temperature to wear this jacket yesterday as both outdoor topper and indoors.

Roxanna, that top is not J. Crew but Land's End!! LisaP was right (and has a good memory). It is part of a twinset that I rescued from my mother's things after she died. I had bought it for her and she looked amazing in it! I loved it and it makes me remember her, so I decided I'd keep it and wear it myself.

  • Lesley replied 5 years ago

    What a cool outfit!

  • Sisi replied 5 years ago

Oh, so nice! That jacket is fantastic on you. My best wishes for the shoe hunt.

  • replied 5 years ago

So , I wore my red jacket today for the first time , with a mid-grey cami and black ponte culottes.  It was fine, but I didn't love it - I think it was the proportions with the culottes, which I find hard to wear without feeling short and fat (i need a longer third piece, not this fairly short jacket) . The jacket was indeed comfortable, but I'm not sure it was a wise buy, and the sleeves are also too long, which also annoyed me.  Oh well.  Chalking it up to a buying error....

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Lisa, good for you, for wearing it, and I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. But thank you for alerting me to it. Between you and Mr. Suz and more than 50% off,  it was a sure buy for me!

My sleeves are not too long -- they are just right (and I have short arms!) But, because I got warm, I unbuttoned the cuffs and turned them back and that worked. Obviously a less pristine look, but I always scrunch or roll sleeves on jackets, so for me it feels more natural than full length.

Re the culottes -- it is partly an "eye needs to adjust" thing, I suspect. When I put mine on I sometimes feel like that, and I definitely won't wear mine with flats. But the more I wear them, the less I feel that way.

  • replied 5 years ago

I usually buy petite jackets and coats at BR - they simply fit better.  This one was a regular size- should have paid more attention . Oh well.

  • Beth Ann replied 5 years ago

Love the outfit, Suz!  A jacket in a vibrant color is such a game changer!  I hear you on the shoes -- I have a very small budget and I'm focusing on footwear particularly.  Fortunately, my hight volume feet will work pretty well with the new styles -- it's mostly just that the proportions with the pants need to change, too!

  • Jjsloane replied 5 years ago

Stunning jacket! You had to be best dressed on the train for sure. Safe travels!

  • viva replied 5 years ago

I really love this jacket on you! And I love the idea of a forced wear through limited packing. I’ve done that and it works (as long as I do t use it as an excuse to shop in a new city!).

Re: the shoes. I totally get the need to bin these because they are worn. My nude suede booties looked awful after one year of hard wear and out they went. But it does make me sad that this shape is not so current. I just packed a black pair - exactly like this - for today’s trip. I love how they fit, and I can’t wear mules. Even if mules will stay on I don’t like how they feel (just returned a pair of Everlane mules like that). Am I doomed to wear outdated footwear this summer? :(

  • krishnidoux replied 5 years ago

Suz, first I am dazzled. And also I am amazed. The red jacket takes life on your frame. It's such a good look on you. I would never have guessed it could become alive this once on. How clever to have paired it with this printed top - by the way LOOOOOVE that print, so refined, so chic, so distinguished. Then, I am amazed at how well the cropped wide pants fit you, it is simply exquisite. You are very inspiring. Thank you!
About the shoes: I am most interested in what you find. You know we have similar features and I am homologous to you in my casual heeled nude summer footwear journey (lol). Like you, I am on the look out and haven't found anything that I could imagine becoming a workhorse in that category, yet I really feel many outfits calls for this type of footwear.

  • cindysmith replied 5 years ago

That red is so good on you!

  • The Cat replied 5 years ago

The gorgeous red jacket looks perfect on you and really is the hero of this outfit. And your blouse is beautiful.

  • tulle replied 5 years ago

I'm so glad the jacket is working out for your travels.  I think it was pretty brilliant to lock yourself up with that jacket for the duration and see what happened--looks like a winner after all!  Something to keep in mind for other pieces that may function best outside our ordinary lives.

  • Freckles replied 5 years ago

    Stunning as usual.
Have you thought about dying the shoes?  That might make you feel a bit better about them til you can find a replacement.
