Sentimental floral twinset and real blooms.

Every spring I break out my mum's Land's End twin set and it never gets old. I bought it for her maybe 15 years ago or more -- and kept it after her death a decade ago. She would have been 100 this year on her birthday, April 7.

I LOVE that KILLER twinset, Suz! It couldn't be more perfect for you - in sentiment especially. Happy 100th to your late Mama. You couldn't be a more radiant daughter blossoming with the Spring flowers either.

White bottoms are magical with your silver hair :)

Oh that’s great Suz. I still have some of Mum’s things especially jewellery, only one thing I bought for her though, which was a brooch from the Isle of Skye I bought in 1988.
Mum was born on 22 April 1920 so would have been 105 just the other day- 5 years older than yours. She didn’t quite make 80 though- died 3 weeks after her 79th birthday.
You look gorgeous in that outfit.
And lovely flower photos on my cloudy grey day here xx

Aww, lovely! That’s the day after my birthday (and my dad’s). What a sweet way to remember her.

You look fab, such a darling twinset with a beautiful, cherished memory. Gorgeous spring blooms, hopefully our flowers in east will be blooming next month too.

  • LJP replied 7 months ago

So classically pretty, Suz. And the blooms are gorgeous!  I feel like I'm living in an alternate universe where it's still chilly and cloudy and nothing has greened up yet, never mind bloomed!

  • JAileen replied 7 months ago

So very, very lovely.  It’s nice to have something to remember her by.  Our apples still have blooms, but were in their prime last week.  My mother turned 100 last August, and likes NYDJ tops.  Once I found this out, I gave her them for her birthday and Christmas for several years.  She probably has enough.  Hahaha!

What a beautiful, lovely way to remember your precious mother and celebrate spring <3 I really love this on you.

I remember this set from previous years. Such a great sentimental piece and looks wonderful on you.

Thank you for the pretty flowers. It warmed up here but not that many flowers yet.

  • Suz replied 7 months ago

I always feel a little guilty posting about our flowers when so many of you have yet to see a single speck of green, let alone a bloom! I know that feeling...ugh.

Spring is spectacular here, but autumn is much nicer in the east.

Thanks for the kind words. It is hard to believe it's been almost 10. years since my mother died -- she died in July, so we are not quite there. She got that 90th birthday, which is pretty amazing considering the way she treated herself at times! But she did love this twinset and I still love it, too.

Beautiful look and beautiful blooms Suz. And such a visceral and touching way to remember your mother

Lovely combination - especially the awesome bag and footwear bookending!

That twin set is absolute perfection for spring and a lovely memory of your mom.  I also really enjoy your wide leg white jeans especially paired with colorful sneakers. This outfit is right up my alley! And beautiful pink flowers against a lovely blue sky. :)

Lovely outfit. Your mom had excellent taste.

  • Star (Lise) replied 7 months ago

Beautiful.  How great to have a sentimental piece that is wearable that ties you and your late Mom.

That’s a lovely way to remember your mum.

That’s such a pretty twin set, Suz! What a lovely way to remember your mom.

I have a couple of pieces my mom bought for me that I can still fit into that I wear occasionally — a sweater and a skirt. In fact, I just got the skirt out of seasonal storage and was playing with new styling of it for this summer. The only clothing I actually wear that belonged to my mom, ironically enough, is a cotton hoodie that she kept at our beach house when I was growing up (the house where I used to live and that we sold last year). That may be my longest-slow-burning workhorse ever! It has to date back to the late 70s, but I still wear it frequently in warmer months at home. It’s 100% cotton but I’d swear it’s made of iron because it’s been worn and washed countless times and not a hole or frayed edge in sight. They don’t make them like that anymore!

I bet spring is so lovely there! It’s beautiful here too, but way too short. I was lucky enough to catch Longwood Gardens in PA (pics 2-9) the other day in time before the tulips pass their peak — yesterday at Sherwood Gardens, just 90 miles south, most of the tulips were already nearly done, since we have had a couple of 80+ days (too soon!). Our azaleas in our yard are nearing peak now (10). Sadly, we cannot plant any bulbs in our yard without the local wildlife digging them up and having a feast!

    Enjoy the spring!

What a nice way to remember your mom! Pretty sweater on you too!

I have a few items of my mom's clothes. Fun to pull out and think of her. She passed away 4 years ago at just over 80 years old.

  • Suz replied 7 months ago

Thanks, Robin. and I am sorry about your loss -- 4 years ago is not that long.

Janet, gorgeous flowers! Your spring looks similar to ours in face. We haven't had 80 temps yet  -- in fact, overall until the last few days it has been quite cool -- but we do get enough sun that things start popping up. Our tulips are peaking now, our cherry blossoms are about to end, and azaleas are also popping out. We have the same problem with digging and munching critters -- especially with tulips -- but this year the rabbit births were later due to the chill, I guess, so the bulbs have come up before they've eaten them!

I love that hoodie -- save it forever! It's a true classic!

    Thanks, Brooklyn, Star, Bonnie.

Lisa, I knew this would be right up your alley -- it has all the hallmarks of a great Lisa outfit -- trendy casual bottoms, cotton colourful top, structured bag, sneakers!

And Carla -- you and I are both fans for the red bookend! And why not?

Thanks, Jaime! I am glad I saved this set. It's amazing how well it has worn. As Janet said, they don't make clothes that way any more.

Really beautiful set. Looks updated for this year! How nice to honor your mother.
You know, maybe a bit TMI, but I was thinking of getting a tattoo of hibiscus flowers on my leg, because that is a traditional decorative tattoo flower. Then I began thinking of all the flowers that I grew up with that I could use instead, because my mother was a gardener: apple blossom, cherry plum, violets, etc. I am not super close to my mother, and she is getting older. But somehow it is a tempting idea.

  • Sal replied 7 months ago

So pretty Suz and how nice to be able to keep and wear this.

  • sarah replied 7 months ago

I love it when you post outfits with that twinset - it continue to look divine on you, and its sentimental meaning is so special. Happy birthday, mum. And happy spring in Canada!

  • Column replied 7 months ago

I remember that twinset, Suz. My own mother designed and sewed at home, so I understand clothing attachments. (Actually, there is an old great essay called something like: “My Mother`s Sewing Machine, with Attachments.”) Maybe you should write about it! At any rate, you still look fab with it on!

  • Kyle replied 7 months ago

This is beautiful in every way. Clothing can create powerful connections for us as daughters. I still think about the matching yellow and white 60s shift dresses my mom made for us,

  • RachelNZ replied 7 months ago

Such a lovely twinset on you Suz and what a nice connection to your Mum as well.
