Short trench try-on!

I made a very quick day trip to Vancouver today for a haircut and on the ferry came across this Helly Hansen version of the short trench in cream and navy. Thought it was worth a try -on.

It is waterproof, has a zip off hood, no epaullettes or belt, self-colour snaps instead of tortoise buttons, as well as a zipper. So it's not a  completely classic trench,  but it is double breasted in style andvery much in the vein of the fits we are seeing-- slightly oversized, with a swingy back (and a back vent).

I tried it first in the S in cream (photos 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). Don't you think the expression on the woman's face in #3 is hilarious? I don't think she is a fan! :)

Then I tried it in the xs, which also fits. (6, 7,8). I don't know which I like better. I think the S.

Then in the navy in small. (9) I didn't like the navy as much. I have a lot of navy coats. Enough already.

Then the outfit I wore all day and the new hair. (10-11).

I liked this coat more than I thought I would but did not buy it yet. Would love your thoughts!  I think this definitely demonstrates that it works a charm with wide leg jeans/ trousers. Proportions are fun.

Really like it, Suz! More unexpected than a classic trench. I like size S, I think it should fit oversized but it’s my own preference.

LOVE the short trench in stone in the size S!!! XS is not as architectural.

KILLER. No-brainer, Suz. And it HAS A HOOD!!!

Haha, not too sure what the lady in your photo was conveying but I think the small looks perfect, It's a more sportier version with the zipper, snaps and detachable hood. Terrific that its actually waterproof, being that you live in B.C. and cream is definitely the way to go if you decide to purchase it.

Suz, this is great. I like it way more on you than in the stock photo! I like the light color and the size S too. Practical and fashionable!

I like the S too. And the hood is fabulous!

Thank you all! Delivery and returns are free, so I ordered it to try on in my own house. I think it's worth a shot!

Wait! They have shopping on the ferry?!

Also, love your hair and the cropped trench is sassy and fun.

Kyle, they absolutely have shopping on the ferry from the Island to Vancouver. And it's not bad! I have a friend who gets almost all her costume jewellery there. Also books, travel mugs, hats, and women's clothing.

Stores on the ferry?  That's so cool !  I think the woman just has a bad case of RBF.  That jacket is great on you, and the S fits much better- looks more modern. And I agree it looks far better on you than in the stock photo.

The woman in 3 was just thinking, “I wonder if that would look good on me, too?  I wish she would hurry up so I can try it on before we dock!”

    I love that jacket you!

First things first, your hair looks sooooo good! Makes me want to chop more of mine off.
Love the cream trench in small on you. I think the lady was reacting to your taking selfies more than the jacket itself :) .

Infinitely better in cream! It really lights up your face.

I prefer the small in cream. I always like when jackets have a little room for layering underneath. Plus at the shorter length it has more swing which adds a nice touch of whimsy to the jacket. Such a great find, I hope it works for you. The shorter length pairs so well with wider bottoms!

Looks great on you, and yes I like the small.
Funnily enough my DD2 bought herself a new handbag on that very ferry in 2023 when we all went for that wedding in Canada. She said it was so perfect for her needs she got it then and there.

Size Small in cream - perfect on you ( the lady in the pic is hilarious - maybe just strange moment of "resting fece" - lol )! The hair is pure fabulousness !

That's a great jacket! Seems a little more casual than a classic trench look, which I like.

Oh, yes. That hood is everything. And the first color, definitely. Pops on you. Also well proportioned for you--almost any coat I have to be wary of, because I have a long torso.
