Silver jeans follow up -- sending back and thanks!

So, uncharacteristically, I'm still undecided on the silver jeans. I did a try on session. I have a million things I could, theoretically, wear them with. But I'm not sure these are "the ones."

It's hard to photograph them accurately. They are very shiny -- no question -- but IRL you don't see every single crease and buckle in the same way. The lighting in my room is far from natural -- I have all kinds of lights rigged up to try to balance the light from behind, but the effect is to highlight shine and shadow in weird ways, despite what I try to do in photo editing.

Anyway -- that said...I think what I might be reacting against is a feeling that the outfits or the jeans themselves are dated!  Ironic, since this is a trendy item!

It could be the footwear. (But I don't want to buy a whole new wardrobe of shoes for one pair of jeans.)  It could be the shape of the jean (I'm now such a convert to wide legs, a straight jean feels like a skinny).

On the plus side, I really do think these are great quality for the money (esp. at the sale price I paid!).

Anyway....what think you? I did not try them on with winter items because, well, the cashmere is in storage. But I've pictured some of my items that do or could work with the jeans below, for reference.

It could be that these are simply not "the ones." Or it could be that so much silver just feels a bit excessive, out of my comfort zone. I'm not entirely sure and welcome your thoughts. I am happy to push my comfort zone for the right wildcard. I am not happy to spend on something I won't wear.

I do have occasions -- potentially. But I'll only wear them if I want to wear them, as per Janet's recent post. And at this point, I'm conflicted. When I first pulled them on, I wanted to wear them! When I look at the photos, I think, hmmm, maybe not?

I absolutely think you can wear this type of silver jeans, Suz. You rock the shine and vibe, I don't feel it overwhelms or wears you. But, and this is of course just my personal opinion, for me these don't work 100%. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if it's the horizontal line above the knee (and the way they 'drape'/'bunch' down from there a little because of that) that is bothering me and looks a bit off?

  • Janet replied 1 year ago

I think this is such a "feel" item, Suz! You gotta be feeling them. For me, it's a LOT of shiny. I've seen metallic jeans that have a less super-shiny appearance -- a more muted shine, which appeals to me more, personally. I find the more muted versions a bit more sophisticated, but again, this is my personal bias. The horizonal line above the knee that Inge mentions does put me off a little too.

If you're not sure they're the ones, and you hesitate, I'd listen to the internal voice that gives you a reason why. You're so careful about choosing the right items, I can't in good conscience egg you on to keep these if there is a solid doubt about them. Perhaps that's my increasing level of pickiness in my own shopping starting to come out.

Super helpful, Inge and Janet -- thank you!

Leaning toward a return, then, at this point! After all -- a better version is likely to come along. Though maybe not at my price point. Having said that, this is hardly a "need." ;)

In my experience if there is a concern don't buy them.  Items should be 100% yes from the get go.  I did this with red loafers.  I thought they maybe too much when trying them on, and now I don't want to wear them.  Besides being uncomfortable they are just too much for me.  The fact that you are questioning whether they are excessive should give you pause, not necessarily our comments.

What Janet said in her second paragraph.

First of all Suz, this type of fabric shine is very hard to photograph well! Don't judge the pics too harshly. The light is unforgiving. Know that you ROCK these jeans, and look radiant like you always do! #1, #5, #6 and #9 are my faves!

The first set of pics are in better light. That horizontal cut-line is less noticeable:

If you don't feel that these are sufficiently RIGHT - I vote return. A more perfect pair of silver jeans will find you at some point!

My honest opinion is that these pants although fun and trendy, are probably not the right style silhouette for you at this time.

I heard today a new term “physical digital clothes” - clothes that looks great online, posted in digital media. I thought of these silver pants. I like them but maybe I like them because you, Suz, look fantastic in them in the photos. Would I like them IRL? Impossible to know. It is all about how you feel. Would you be in a mood to make a bold fashion statement?

Well Suz I didn’t respond on your first thread because you seemed so excited and had so many positive comments that I didn’t want to spoil the mood. But I did/do feel that they are “too much”- too much shine, I guess.
If you loved them fully, I would think go for it, but that doesn’t now seem the case?

Suz, back to Angie's post today, can these pants be a supporting act to who you are or are they too much "look at me". The fabric may be putting you out on a limb conflicted by the attention. Great colour, great style but are they you?

    Here’s my view:

They’re too shiny. Too Tin Man.

It’s great that they’re not too fitted, or too expensive , and of course they go with lots in your wardrobe. I especially got ALMOST on board with the white items ( except they seem too warm for a lightweight shirt) ; I also imagine a chunky gray sweater. More subtle than with black or even navy.

I would be hoping for the fashion tide to waft in something in pewter, some kind of softened silver..Or even a color. Cheeky but not as overpowering.

Of course it’s all up to you. This is just my reaction to the photos.

  • Suz replied 1 year ago

Ok, thank you all! Super helpful comments. I think I will wait for a different pair.

Having said that -- Angie's right -- I do really think the photos do not do justice to the item. They look better -- more expensive -- in person -- honestly!

Also, I should clarify for those who might not know me that well, I'd have no problem with the attention grabbing aspect of these pants. I have public facing events at which I actually need to stand out, or, er...shine -- so it's not a minus for me! As a social introvert, I actually like it when the attention is first to my clothes...it opens conversations and gives me confidence, rather than the reverse.

And I love the idea of something like this for at home, too, to make me feel festive when we're just eating another supper alone, LOL.

Having said that, if this version isn't 100% right, I can be pretty sure another will come along. And in all honesty, I wouldn't really be wearing them until the fall, anyway. So back they go, and many thanks for weighing in!

  • Vildy replied 1 year ago

I think they're reallllly sexy on you.

  • Minaminu replied 1 year ago

Even if  these are not the right pair, would you still consider a silver pair of jeans? I think they would be a fun piece in your wardrobe!

  • replied 1 year ago

I saw you're returning them- but if you're going to look for others (and based on the refresh post) are they
congurent who you're in process of becoming?
They do work well with your wardrobe!

  • Cardiff girl replied 1 year ago

Well l liked them and thought you looked fab in them but l agree with everyone who says if you are hesitating there’s probably a reason for that.

  • LJP replied 1 year ago

I'm 100% with Janet on this one. I would also add that you might want to explore this idea further with something a little more sophisticated and updated in cut.  And possibly a less tin-foil-ish looking fabric.  The colour and the idea work for you - clearly, but I still don't get the right vibe from these that I think you deserve.

  • Brooklyn replied 1 year ago

Suz, I think they look fantastic on you. But personally I always return when I have doubts. I never regret returning but often regret keeping.

Did you see this pair on ASOS? Cotton. More muted. Boyfriend fit in a looser style. Brand is AFRM. Can’t create a find.

  • Jaime replied 1 year ago

I hear you Suz. I have the same issue with the silver items in my closet (bag, shoes, top). I have no issue wearing bright pink or other loud colors and patterns but have to be in a certain mood to wear silver. Not sure if it is the pair or the silver for you of course.

  • Suz replied 1 year ago

Brooklyn -- thank you! I will check those out. And thanks to everyone for weighing in. Super helpful. They've gone back and I'll be hunting for the next pair! :)

  • Jessikams replied 1 year ago

You know, I don’t love the line above the knee. That could be what’s feeling dated. Glad they went back. Next!

  • Tanya replied 1 year ago

I think you have made the right choice, Suz.  For all that is worth, I am sort-of-looking for a pair of silver jeans, too, but more subtle.  I had a pair of gunmetal coated skinnies back in the day and they were very useful.  Right now, the closest to what I'd like is this Reformation pair.
