Simon Says

After an unintentionally low buy year, along with a major closet edit, I've started to replace some of my knitwear. I was hoping to stick to Canadian retailers as much as possible. I was also craving colour.

So I took a risk and ordered some things from Simon's. I'm quite delighted with the experience. First, I got free delivery and I also get free returns (because I was a member). Second, the web images matched the colour of the articles, the descriptions were quite accurate, and the fits on the whole were consistent with what it said on the sizing chart. Delivery took one week, which for the Island, isn't bad. (Things always take longer to get here than they do to the mainland.)

These aren't really properly styled in outfits, just thrown on with a few options, but you get the idea.

1-3  A polo top in red merino. Nice fine gauge knit, fairly classic cut but classic with deference to the current, if that makes sense. It is not as cropped as some more  fashion forward sweaters but it is fluid and the fabric behaves well. (The skirt is from BR -- another post!)  I am enjoying the possibility of creating tonal red outfits.

4-5. Cashmere Johnny collar sweater. A little looser. Nice quality. Not cheap, but not insanely expensive.

6  Classic crewneck fine gauge merino in a bright berry tone. Like the red merino, this was reasonably priced.

7. A hoodie in Lenzing-Ecovero Viscose -- first experience with this fabric and it is really nice! Drapes beautifully. This was an inexpensive item, and a bit of a HEWI. I have been looking for a comfy casual lounge-type hoodie for several years now. I have ordered and sent back dozens.

8-11 an oversized boatneck blue merino pullover. I really like this in theory but it is too big so it's going back. (Yes, I know it's supposed to be oversized, but...) There is no smaller size. The quality and colour were lovely though!

I will certainly order from Simon's again. I know Dee is a loyal customer and now that I have tried them I feel more confident ordering from them again.

I am another loyal Simon’s customer and always consider them when looking for something specific. Including home goods . I’ve been tripped up once not logging in to my account to purchase ( thus considered a guest ) and being charged for a return . Anyways , I like all of your pieces and agree the cobalt sweater isn’t right . Are you keeping it all other than the last sweater ?

Why am I still up ? Good night .

Great haul. I especially like no 4/5. Lovely colour and elegant neckline. It’s a shame about the blue jumper. It looks great.

Oh, you know I'm a big fan of Simons, and it looks like you've scored a wonderful stash of sweaters for the winter SUZ. Love the tonal red combos, that colour of red is just the right shade, on you but really, so are all of the other colours. I'm pretty sure I have the same zipped hoodie but in a different shade got it many years ago. I predict a very stylish winter season integrating these new versatile additions with your current wardrobe.

Very nice items! I actually like the fit of the oversized sweater. And that skirt from BR is fantastic!

Gorgeous colors and fits on you, Suz! I’m so glad you found success with Simon’s.

I quite like the blue oversized sweater, but I see the issue in the side angle photo — I’ve declined similar cuts as well. I like volume but it needs to be better behaved than that. Just a bit too tent-like. It’s a shame because otherwise it’s really good.

Welcome to the world of free shipping :)

WOOHOO! KILLER haul, Suz! Finally in merino/cashmere/ecovero colours you were looking for, and from a new-to-you store that you will shop at again. Winner, winner chicken dinner :)

I get that you need to wear COLOUR in our very grey PNW Winter weather. It helps. You wear these cool berry tones beautifully! LOVE the mix of reds. A blue red is one of your BEST colours! Seamless integration with blues, greys, whites and purples.

Blast. You needed a size down on the blue jumper. Something else will pop up!

    ENJOY!!!

    New skirt is KILLER too!

What a great blast of color! Love the fuchsia and the cool purple.

Nice mini haul!  Love the colours.

In 8-10 the blue sweater looks much too big, but the styling in 11 is smashing. Too bad there isn’t a size down.

  • Suz replied 1 week ago

Yes, it's a shame about the blue sweater, isn't it? Oh well. I liked the architectural shape of it and it draped well. But c'est la vie!  And yes, LJP, I'm keeping all the rest. I got rid of a lot of knitwear in the past two years and was down to only a few items. Time for a refresh.

The colours are indeed great. I wore the red hoodie today and it was fabulous. I really like that fabric!

    Dee, I knew you'd approve!

Thanks for the kind words and Canadians, give Simon's a try if you have not yet done so and are in the market for something new!

You look so good in those strong colors! The first shot blew me away. Perhaps Queen Blue needs to expand her Queendom to red? Cobalt as a color is smashing on you too.

  • Carol replied 1 week ago

Glad you had a good experience. I love anything with a crew neck, and  that red one is nice. The hoodie is particularly charming, and looks well made. The blue--really too bad. I think that's a nice look.

You scored big time, Suz. 4 out of 5 winners! They are all so gorgeous on you.
The blue looks similar in color to one I tried on at Bloomingdale's this week, by Theory. It is super soft, gorgeous, and the lapis blue color is stunning. Maybe Simon's carries it?

  • Sal replied 1 week ago

What lovely knitwear - great colours - good injection of newness to see you through winter.

The skirt is great too - hope you are keeping that?

  • Suz replied 1 week ago

Thanks, Sal. Yes, I'm keeping the skirt -- it is super fun and cross seasonal because made of cotton. I'll show a few outfits eventually.

Sharan, thanks! I don't think Simon's has that one, but I can order from Bloomingdale's still -- just trying to keep it to Canadian retailers (mostly) for now. I love this vivid blue -- it's a bit brighter/ lighter than cobalt. Closer to royal or lapis, as you say.

Carol, thanks! The hoodie is spectacular -- a really nice piece to wear. Quite warm, too!

Jaime, yes, this particular cool-ish red is definitely one of my best colours. I love it.

Beautiful colours! Looking forward to seeing them integrated with your older items as more outfits in the future. I like the fit of the blue top. It has a cool drape to it, not just boxy and sacky.

  • Jenni NZ replied 1 week ago

I like the 2 red items the best but all nice, and what a fab skirt. I love merino and have also heard of Ecovero fabric. Hmm, maybe Angie did a post a while back.

  • RobinF replied 1 week ago

Wow, nice haul! The heather purple is my favorite but these all make such a nice variety for winter. I quite like the last one but I like oversized. It’s fun with the white jeans.

  • Lisa replied 1 week ago

A most superb haul! You have an eye for excellent colors, each one is stellar on you I can't even pick a favorite. Like RobinF I thought you were going for the oversized vibe with the cobalt sweater. A shame it didn't work, the color is stunning on you.

Bravo on an excellent haul for your wardrobe refresh! And perfect timing right before the holidays!

  • lyn67 replied 1 week ago

Beautiful haul, love the new skirt (as it has a red stripe, too!!:-)) and  love you in reds/lavender/fuchsia Suz-happy you now can do a tonal red outfit like you did for that book lauch in the oher thread-as it was magnificient! Are the pants I see in nr 4&7, 8-10 leather (or waxed) wow, they kind of have a sheen and should be really great for the colds.

Another big Simons fan here, especially since losing the Bay. Love the free shipping, and returns are so easy. If you haven't already, sign up for Rakuten and you can get cashback too (12% right now).

Suz, I just bought that same red polo sweater and love it. I think I also have the same merino crewneck in black, and the blue version is on order now.

  • Suz replied 1 week ago

Linder, thanks for the tip! And yes, we must be sweater twins!

Lyn thank you! Yes ,the pants are pleather and they are great for the cold temps. Cozy!

  • Kyle replied 1 week ago

Well, you KNOW I love your colors and style. I’m especially drawn to the  tonal red outfits. I don’t think I’ve ever tried doing this and now I want to. I also like the way you mix these classic style knits with slightly more trendy bottoms. It’s a great, current look that is very you, Suz.

    Thank you, Kyle! :)
