Speaking of impractical wardrobe items...

Look what I just ordered.

Here is how my thinking went. I was interested in the Rebecca Taylor. But that is $417 Canadian dollars (never mind shipping and duties). And it is sleeveless and made of ponte. Talk about seasonal confusion, right?

Then, here is this Club Monaco lovely, in a very similar cut, considered earlier this year by Anna for a wedding. A lovely silk dress (I saw in person) for only $149 Canadian. Yes, it is sleeveless, but it's meant to be a summer dress.

Impractical? Well, let's see how it looks on me. (It's returnable). And if I decide to keep it? Well, let's just say, I hereby vow to be a guest at some awards ceremony next June, come hell or high water. :) I am shopping for the life I want to live.  :)

I think this is a really good choice. I'll bet it's gorgeous on you.

I can absolutely see you in that, Suz. This is like dressing for the job you want, right? I'm gonna say yes.  :)

This is beautiful Suz!!  I love it!

Isn't Una having us all come visit her at TIFF??  We should dress up and go to her sisters film...(re: the life I WANT to live...LOL)

Very pretty and a great find at a great price. Hope it is a great fit.

BRAVO!  Can't wait to see the silk number on you.

And BTW I commiserate re shipping/duties/exchange rates.  I was just eyeing some booties but couldn't pull the trigger, sigh. I feel your pain.

    That is a gorgeous dress!

I think I like it better than the Club Monaco dress. I can picture this looking great on you.

I don't see how you can go wrong Suz. It's a super cute dress - and at a great price. I bet it's even more wearable than the RT.

Ohhhhh........... can't wait to see it on you!

  • Peri replied 8 years ago

Oh I love that print and the floaty layers!! I hope it works...let us see it for sure!

Go Suz!  It's a stunning dress and good on you for finding something closer to home and shopping locally.

Suz, from the mouth of Coco Chanel, "Everyday is a fashion show and the world is the runway".. enjoy the dress x

I think I prefer the Club Monaco version. I can definitely see you in it! And I'm sure you'll find reasons to wear it.

Sleeveless ponte does seem confusing. Silk might only be seasonally appropriate in one season, but at least there is a defined season!

I think it is a great option.  I like print dresses for dressier styles.  It adds an element that isn't that common.  Looking forward to the unveiling.

Very sound decision making, Suz.  Club Monaco has been doing some lovely dresses.  Some are quite short which works out brilliantly for the vertically challenged.  I'm going to pop into the store on the weekend to check out the new additions.
I still plan to do a walk through at Nordstrom.....although you seem less infatuated with the RT dress than you were.  That happens to me as well......I think a bit and go hmmmm. :)

It's a stunning CM dress, Suz. Anna tried it on and it's very flirty and feminine. Gorgeous quality. REALLY not that formal - and can be dressed down with ease. I hope it works out.

  • Eliza replied 8 years ago

Great color and shape to try, Suz. Love the dress and hope it works!

(Shutting eyes and picturing you smiling as you accept something special).

Love your pick! And your reasoning!

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 8 years ago

I like it a lot ... Probably more than the other dress because of the print.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

Love that dress - the print is right up my alley!

  • Meow replied 8 years ago

Your reasoning is brilliant! I buy exercise clothes to motivate me to exercise so why not an award ceremony dress?! Uh oh.....you've got me thinking about the life I want.......I feel a lot of tropical island clothes coming my way!

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

I knew I could count on all of you for expert enabling!! I will let you know  how it goes and of course model it for you.

The print is even better in person. I was VERY attracted to it earlier this summer but could not justify it at the regular price. On sale, however, it's a different story.

More as soon as it arrives, and thank you!

Let's hope it fits -- I don't have any option to size up since I got one of the last ones.

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

Love both those dresses. I am glad you decided to indulge yourself! Can't wait to see you in them

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Oh, I only bought the print one, Maneera -- not both!! Both would have been too much for my budget. :) The print one was so much cheaper than the purple one that it seemed like a genuine bargain, ha!

  • replied 8 years ago

Just a reminder that the big award ceremonies are in October :)

  • Colette replied 8 years ago

Oh, I can see why you bought the dress, it's very pretty. Looking forward to the pictures.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

That's for books, Lisa. The Vince has me covered for that. ;)

I was thinking magazines....since I won't have a new book out by October. Alas.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Suz, I can picture you wearing this dress. Yes, it has to be yours.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Great choice! And even rational. Bonus!

  • Susie replied 8 years ago

I love the pattern and love the dress for you. Hope it's perfect!

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

Lovely dress that looks like it would be perfect on you!

  • Summer replied 8 years ago

The dress is beautiful. Suz.  If it looks as stunning on, you will be sure to find an event to match it.

  • shedev replied 8 years ago

I like the printed one much better. I think the neckline might be better on you. Can't wait to see it on.

  • AviaMariah replied 8 years ago

I just saw this dress which is kinda-sorta like RM dress.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

    Thanks, AviaMariah.

Now here is something interesting -- I see that dress as completely different from the RM. It's fit and flare vs. dropped waist. Mini vs. knee length (on me). Crew neck vs. mock neck (which, contrary to Shedev, I actually think would look great on me, but crewneck is okay too.)

To me, this one looks really young. The other one (RM) looks youthful but not trying to be a girl. And ditto the CM  -- although of course it is difficult to say if it will read too young when it is on my actual self. We'll see.

I know for sure this dress (the white one) would read as WAY too young on me.
