Style Recap 2025

I'm enjoying everyone's style reflections and figured I'd start some of my own.

My goals last year were essentially to keep on keeping on. I didn’t want for much, so I made just a few select spring/summer purchases.. But in the autumn I did another major edit, and then a major refresh of my knitwear when I discovered knits in more current styles and in colours I had not been able to source for at least 8 years. So my in and out numbers ended up typical for me — 30 in, 35 out. This has been pretty consistent for years. It’s interesting — my wardrobe is considerably larger than Carla’s but our cycling of items is similar.  Also like Carla, I wore every item in my closet at least once. Admittedly, that is partly because I edited out anything I was not wearing.

Colour Story: My colour of the year last year was white and I did indeed purchase (and wear) new white and ivory items (esp. in spring/ summer). But white contains all the colours of the spectrum, so it is fitting that I was also able to purchase blue and red and violet and fuchsia and green and yellow and mustard items this year to round things out! :)

Besides white, my other neutrals are navy and grey and I continued to buy items in those neutrals this year, especially to replace core essentials that were well past their prime. But the boost of colour is so welcome in what has proved to be a very dark wet winter so far.

A few highlights:

Most fun (and practical) trendy purchase: jorts from Zara (got another pair from H&M in a more faded wash but still prefer the cut and colour of the Zara)

Most comfy and complimented footwear find: Silver sneakers from Cole Haan

Most special dressy winter additions: silver boots from Camper, raspberry red lace shirt, Boden. (Both were splurges, even on sale. Both are also comfortable and should have closet longevity.)

Most instant workhorse new items: Zara jorts (summer); red merino polo sweater, (winter). Also, new sunnies (not in Finds).

Most wildcard: green leopard print sweater, Boden; citron sweater BR, mustard pants, Zara.

Best new online shopping source for me: Simon’s.

Highest joy per wear items: Silver boots, silver sneakers  (new), red plaid boots, red velvet pants, flocked wide leg pants, longline navy coat, Paul Smith jacket (older).

Thanks for looking! I'll add my goals and plans for 2026 in a separate post with colour and word of the year.

Yay for jorts :) ! Wow, I really admire you and probably everyone with such a tight handle on your pieces and successes/failures. I know I am in a unusual position vis a vis clothing exposure but I could never. Anyway, you are looking fresh and fab Suz - apart from the jorts, I love the bold colors on you and the fun silhouette of the white jacket. You are in your style game!

I love those new Camper boots !  Been wondering when you'd mention them .  And I too love Simon's.  Fast shipping, easy website to navigate, and has become my department store go-to .

Interesting about your jorts. I hated the way I looked in them, and could not get them off me fast enough .  I see they are still trending and wonder how I'll feel about them in the spring.

Suz, I hereby crown you Queen Silver Shoes! Few people bookend them - and wear them as brilliantly! No wonder compliments are aplenty.

LOVE you in jorts!!! I suspected they would work, and sooo glad you followed through on the wildcard. New wardrobe essential!

It was also your wildcard year for colour. Hello mustard and citron, and wearing them with verve! You wear your signature reds, blues, greys and whites with the best of them. Nice to see you embellish your palette with new non-neutrals. And a seamless integration! Change can be sooo GOOD.

#3 is my favourite Suz-look-of- 2025! KILLER to the Power of KILLER. Just so graceful, timelessly elegant, and beautifully trendy classic. Your HAIR has never looked better than in these last few cuts!

You are radiant, organized, and diciplined! You have an excellent handle on your style and wardrobe, and are an inspiration to us all :)

I love the color palette of the outfits you show -- primaries-with-a-twist + white. Bold and graphic! Your shopping year was not exactly what you expected but you milked the opportunities that arose and I feel like you are such a great example of doing that without a bunch of hand-wringing and angst. Taking notes!!

I remember when you got your plaid boots.  They work so beautifully in your wardrobe.  There was another member here with boots that were both Stewart plaid and Blackwatch.  They were so weird yet wonderful.  I would love having plaid boots, and they are available, but they’re not quite right.

Suz, I swear your style is the most dialed-in of anybody I know (except for maybe Angie). YLF!!

  • Bonnie replied 2 weeks ago

Oh, that red lace rumba shirt is a beauty! The jorts are fun and the silver shoes are so you. Lots of great stuff! I'm waiting for the Fireside sweater to get in my price range.

  • slim cat replied 2 weeks ago

Gorgeous looks - love you in red in #3 and #4! Jorts are so stylish on you ( I'm another one who looks ridiculous in them - lol ).
Green leopard sweater is so fun with white pants!

  • Suz replied 2 weeks ago

Thank you all.... Bonnie you'd look amazing in that citron BR sweater and it is on sale now. Time to pounce!

Mary, what a sweet thing to say -- thank you! Heaven knows I learned a lot from you in my first years on YLF and I am grateful for those lessons. Also, still wearing your Secret Santa scarf!

JAIleen, yes, those plaid boots are winners. I hope I can find a replacement if I can't get them properly repaired....

Sarah, so great to see you pop in. You've been missed!

Angie thank you so much! I am smiling. OUtfit #3 owes a heck of a lot to you! Bought the pants on your recommendation AND the shirt. AND the belt. :)  I have learned never to ignore your advice. It always works.

Lisa, the boots are really great. I don't like the little tab at the back but it is fabric and probably can just be cut off. If wearing with pants it's not noticeable, of course.

Re jorts -- try a bunch on if they are still a thing this coming summer. Some styles really did not work for me, either. I tried a bunch before I found one I liked on me. Some just looked like grandpa shorts on me. And emphasized parts of me I'd rather not draw attention to. ;)

Jaime: is the expert on jorts and she knows what works and what does not! Thanks, Jaime! Narrowing things down to key neutrals and colours really helped me nail other aspects of my style. And now I can expand in the colour department (carefully).

So stylish!  Love the raspberry red on you especially.  You, JAIME and SHARAN are jorts poster girls. Look out for a lipstick with raspberry in the name as I think that could work. I used to use a Clinique raspberry which was perfect for a cooler red but they seem to have discontinued it.

  • pirouette replied 2 weeks ago

The red blouse in picture 3 is a perfect shade for you. I too am a fan of your jorts you look great in them.

  • Minaminu replied 2 weeks ago

i'm so impressed with your thoughtful wardrobe editing and how beautifully you've balanced your in and out numbers! The fact that you've maintained that 30-35 range consistently over the years shows such intentionality and discipline.

Your color story is wonderful too and those pops of color must be so uplifting during the dark winter months. And the green leopard print sweater as a wildcard—sounds like such a fun piece!

  • Helena replied 2 weeks ago

What Ms Mary said! And I agree with Angie's top pick ... That blouse is so good on you. Love your style Suz, simple as that. YLF!!

  • Dee replied 2 weeks ago

Your style is the epitome of casual chic, with spot on fit and proportions. Adore the colour palette too.
I'm a big fan of Simons myself and I'm glad to hear they are proving a good source for your wardrobe too. I'm also loving jorts as well, they've been a wonderful addition to my summertime closet.

  • LJP replied 2 weeks ago

Your statement about filtering down to the core neutral colours as allowing you to figure out your style is interesting.  I don't have as concise and identifiable style as you - and I wonder if it's because I tend to be a bit all over -the-place with colour and owning too many pieces spread across too many colours .....

  • cat2 replied 2 weeks ago

It is so fun when your colors pop up at retail! And this winter there were some great plaids. Great time for a refresh.

  • Suz replied 1 week ago

Cat2 it was like waking up to sunshine when I saw sweaters in colours that work for me, at prices I could afford, from places I could return to if they did not work, and in cuts that interested me. Most of my nicer knits were 10 years old and while the colours were fab, some were showing wear and most were not cut for today's trousers.

Lisa, interesting thoughts -- I'll start a separate post with a response in case it is useful to others.

Dee, thank you! It was your experience with Simon's that finally convinced me to give them a try. I don't have a store near me so I hesitated because I didn't understand the house brands or how to distinguish them. I regularly gave my step-granddaughter gifts from them but hadn't purchased myself; given my recent experience, I certainly will!

Helana, Minaminu, pirouette, Star -- thank you! I will look for a red lipstick with raspberry in the name.

  • Ket replied 1 week ago

Love this entire post and all the items! You look terrific in everything here. Keep on shining, Suz!

  • Carla replied 1 week ago

Thanks for the shout out, Suz.  You always do so well with the mix and match formula to get loads of variety in your day-to-day.

That Simon’s red polo neck is 100% energy.  ‘Vibes” as the kids say!

  • Sal replied 1 week ago

Love your attitude Suz. And your wardrobe.

You always look sparky and dynamic and modern and someone I would want to talk to. Your use of colour and texture is excellent.

    All the best for 2026

  • Lisa replied 1 week ago

It's so interesting that you and Carla have different sized wardrobes but a similar rate of churn. And it's impressive that you're able to maintain that rate year after year. You have your style and wardrobe needs figured out and excellent discipline to maintain a fabulous wardrobe. Bravo!

  • kellygirl replied 1 week ago

You have such a well curated closet! I admire your discipline in keeping it in shape! Doesn't hurt that you have great taste and that you wear everything with such style! You're an inspiration!
