Summer MVPs (and belly-flops)

As the days get shorter (sob!) and the mornings dawn a bit cooler (at least where I live), I'm thinking about what worked and what didn't, this summer. It was a strange season for me. Some typical favourites barely saw the light of day (white shorts, I am looking at you), and some wildcards became workhorses.

To wit: orange Cole Haan sandals. These are comfy, versatile, and work well with my blues. I never wear orange because it looks horrid on me, but even at 5'4", my feet are pretty far from my face. :) I wore these for some portion of almost every day. A+

However, the Zara top I bought to wear with them was less successful. I was hoping to replace my much-beloved blue gingham cotton voile Loft top, which I wore on repeat for nearly a decade of summers. This top is the same fabric and also patterned (to disguise the sheerness of voile) so it should have been a summer slam dunk, right? Hmmm. Not so much. Don't get me wrong. I wore it. It is more yellow than in the photo and therefore less flattering on me, but that wasn't the main problem. The main problem is that unlike my old gingham top, it is a fitted shirt -- which means it is not as cool and airy as my old blouse. Hence, much less wearable. C-

What was a hit was my very boxy blue Everlane cotton top. LOVE this and have worn it a ton. Simple, oversized, minimalist -- I feel almost as cool and stylish as Irina, wearing this. :) It works with all my shorts and cropped pants. A+ (and if they had any other colours left, I'd be duplicating, but they don't.)

Slightly less successful but not unsuccessful -- the striped Everlane soft cotton shirt. It's truly soft, doesn't wrinkle a lot, and  is nicely sun protective. But due to the short length and lightweight fabric, it doesn't drape quite as well. B+

My other footwear purchase was also something of a middling success. I love the look of these Mary Janes and they are super fun with various outfits. And comfy for short trips when I am mostly driving or on the bike. But they are too flat for real comfort, for me -- definitely not walking shoes. Which, given my lifestyle, means I didn't wear them a lot. I will probably get some use of them in September and again in May, next year. A for fun factor and looks, C for real comfort.  (sigh)

How about you? Did you have surprise MVPs this season (fall/ winter if you are in the opposite hemisphere)? Did you have any mistakes or flops? To what do you attribute their success or lack thereof?

Great analysis Suz - and I can see why these pieces were highly rated dives or slight flops - no absolute belly flops though!!

Love both those pairs of footwear!!

Of the true winter pieces purchased this year the following were hits:

    - Stars - Navy suit - both blazer and pants, green cashmere tee A plus
    -
Good performing essentials - white sneakers and blue turtleneck - A
    - I love but haven't worn as much as I thought - the striped jumper - B
    - In the donation pile - snakeskin boots - love how they look but too hard to get on and off, need a very very low volume foot D

I have made a couple of other purchases but it's too early to tell as they were out of season purchases or it has been really only one month.

    Great analysis, Suz!

YAY for A+ orange sandals! Sooo stinking cute!

Do you mean that the Hawaiian shirt is fitted? I don't remember it being fitted. HAH!

Makes sense that the slightly longer short Everlane shirt was more of a success. Length is almost everything. (Spoken by Queen Pedantic About Lengths ;) )

I'd rate the red Mary Janes higher! They weren't suppose to be workhorses or walking shoes. Fun going-out shoes that deserve at least an all round B+ :)

To answer your question: no belly flops! Did a good job of sticking to what I like to wear in warm and hot weather - as I mentioned in this post. I did not stray when refreshing for the season! And it worked.

Suz, lol, you are more stylish than that Irina! :)

Bought a pair of light color flats from Everlane. I have an older pair in red and thought it would be a success. Somehow I was not reaching out for it. Should’ve stuck to “one and done” rule. Planning to sell it. Love wearing white linen wide leg pants from Eileen Fisher bought second hand. Also, new black mesh sneakers work well. I usually avoid wearing sneakers as I find them too hot in a summer but these are breezy.

  • Kate replied 1 month ago

No misses there, Suz. I hear you on your disappointment with the cute red shoes not being walking shoes. I feel the same about my shoes. No matter how cute, they have to perform as walking shoes, or they don't get to take up space in my closet.

I didn't really buy a lot this summer, and what I did buy worked well. The only item that didn't was a tee from Uniqlo's collaboration with Marimekko. I loved the pattern of the tee, and but hated it on me. Immediately set it aside to donate. Pattern averse me should have known a lot better. For me, most patterns are better enjoyed on other people!

Ha Irina, I had the same experience with Everlane. Bought a tan pair of flats from them and loved them, so I duplicated in cream. Didn't reach for those. I'm going to sell my second pair too. I need to be more thoughtful about duplicating. I've done it often in the past, but I need to be really strategic about it going forward.

  • Jaime replied 1 month ago

Excellent analysis of faves and fails and the why of it all. The end of summer is still a ways off here, so I am not ready to draw any conclusions. Best new to me shoes are a pair of Birk like Ecco black sandals though. As good or better than sneakers.

  • Suz replied 1 month ago

Jaime, it's great to hear your experience with those Eccos. I have eyed them, but since. Birks do not fit me at all and are uncomfortable, I assumed the Ecco version might also be a flop for me. Maybe not -- considering half my footwear comes from Ecco? But not all their styles work for me.

Kate, yes, it is so frustrating to have shoes just sitting looking pretty in the closet. I did try these more or less as an experiment, in the knowledge thay might not be workhorses, as Angie says -- but still.

Irina, so interesting about the lack of success with the near duplication. Sometimes when that happens to me, though, I wait a year and then I find I am reaching for the previously little-worn version all the time. It is as if it is a forecasting of my future needs or something...intuition at work, but a little too early for the rest of the closet.

Angie, I'm not sure the blue top is all that much longer, but the fabric is so different that it just falls differently -- more away from the body, if that makes sense. Such a great top. I love the hidden buttons. And I'm not surprised you had no misses! You are an expert!

Sally, that suit and the bright top would be A+ in my closet, too. They look SO great on you! I also love the blue t-neck. I am sorry about those boots. They really are lovely, but if the shoe does not fit -- no use trying to wear it!

  • Bijou replied 1 month ago

Suz, such a useful exercise to keep things on track and hopefully avoid making the same mistakes in the next season.

    My misses:
Black angora long cardigan - it is so warm that I find it hard to wear because it needs to be really cold for me to wear this and it sheds fluff. Pros - it is so soft and comfy to wear and looks stylish. C
Puffy vest - An item that I did not need to add to my wardrobe, but I like it and enjoy wearing it especially useful when walking my dog (but I have other dog walking jackets, so not necessary) - C+
Blue dress - hoping that I will wear it when the weather warms up a bit - a lovely dress, but not warm enough for winter as it is cotton and has the cut outs so minimal warmth in the sleeves. I'm on the fence with this one, as it may prove useful once things warm up. B-
    My hits:
Two pairs of wide leg jeans, enjoying the new vibe and denim is so comfy and perfect for my lifestyle. A
Green dress - it is made from a soft flannel material, so as comfy as wearing a nightgown, yet looks dressy. The fit is perfect too. I always feel fab wearing this and it is easy to layer under jackets. A

My three best summer purchases this year were a pair of cropped black linen pants from eBay, black fisherman sandals from Macy's, and a white linen Quince top (no Find). I bought the linen top in black also, but found it scratchy so I am washing it frequently and feeling it getting a little softer each time. I suspect the black will fade a little bit with each wash too, so it's one step forward and one step back. These three pieces are comfortable, versatile, and were inexpensive, so I can give them all a solid A.

My other MVP is the lime green half moon DKNY bag that I bought last year. It holds all the things I really need, and brightens up an otherwise neutral outfit. A friend called it the bag that matches nothing and goes with everything.

  • Brooklyn replied 1 month ago

I’m glad the orange sandals were a hit. They were a great wild card for you. Footwear is so tricky when you like to walk a lot.

My biggest success this winter was my overdyed jeans. I really enjoyed the colour variation. And I get compliments on them all the time. Who knew?

I am also really enjoying the 2 pairs of Docs I bought and the older brown 14 eye pair that I revived. The newer pairs are not fully broken in yet but I just adore them. They give any outfit attitude. I plan to keep wearing them (with extra moleskin, lol) into spring.

I wore skirts less this winter. I usually wear them for occasional not everyday wear in winter. But this year, even less so. I think that has something to do with the coloured jeans. I am going to try to push pause on winter weight skirts next year. I have plenty.

Oh, and I’m just loving my sling bags. These will also work in spring and summer.

  • Helena replied 1 month ago

Smart and useful exercise Suz! The orange shoe makes total sense since it's a perfect contrast for your cool blues. I think I agree with Angie that the red shoes don't need to be workhorses to be a success ... But of course comfort matters.

I also agree that the Irina cool factor is #goals :D

I just looked through my finds and am happy to report it was the summer of hits! Not for nothing do I note it was also the summer of go with the flow. I needed to restock on some of my essentials, and Uniqlo came through for me big time, with almost all my summer purchases from there. My only miss was the olivey-brown t, which the colour is just a little off for me and I haven't really reached for it. The olive open knit top isn't a workhorse but it's been just the thing a few times for a slightly more interesting casual outfit.

  • Star replied 1 month ago

Interesting analysis Suz!  It certainly has given me food for thought.

Firstly just to say I cannot wait for the end of summer and cooler weather.  Summer on the Black Sea this year has been the longest and hottest ever.

Now back to 2024 purchases.  I actually purchased a lot for me (19).  Most were 2nd hand and I did manage to get 2 out for every 1 in.  The brakes are on now for the rest of the year.  I am not going to rate all the items I added as quite a few have not been worn.  Not because they were belly-flops but because I bought them a bit tight as I had envisaged losing my middle-fluff by summer but that did not happen.  Not too stressed about this as I know they will be worn in time.

So what did I buy and wear and what is their rating?

A black shirt dress (brand new) - B.  I love everything about it (the cut, the fit), however all though it is 100% cotton is too warm for summer.  Fab for Late Spring and Early Autumn though.

A black button down shirt with a mandarin collar (thrifted Zara) - A+.
I love it.  The fit, the cut.  A  100% cotton, a thick weave, also too hot for high summer but much better quality than the dress mentioned above,  Perfect for the rest of the year,

A black button down collared shirt tunic length (thrifted Primark) -A
I love it!  Such cool cotton,  Cooler than wearing sleeveless in fact.  Perfect for high summer.   Brought home by my DH for me, it was mistakenly in the Men's Section, as was the Zara shirt mentioned above (but I found that one).

Camel chunky platform sandals (thrifted New with Tags). - A+
Totally my style, look edgy, bookend my faded copper hair, as light as a feather and comfortable (can walk miles in them).

Black Cocoon Dress (thrifted Scandi brand) - A+.
100% cotton jersey, great shape, deep pockets, midi length.  Love it.  Will look fab too with a white or blue denim jacket when it cools down.

Black Capri Jeans (thrifted Escada Sport) - A.  I nearly did not take these.  I was at the cashier and went back to the rack where I left them.  So glad I did.  I was not sure about the length.  But now I am sold.  Excellent fit and quality, feel like they were made for me.  PS:  They have leather trim on the hems, such a cool detail.

Yellow floral peplum Tee (thrifted Terranova) - B.  Fun wild card.  A very different colour for me, a mango yellow - I like it with my new copper hair.

The ones that were not such winners are:

Fuchsia Anorak (thrifted) - D.  Very heavy and not that warm as you would expect it to be.  I will keep it for Autumn but honestly I would not buy it now.  Fortunately it was only 2.50 Euros.

Navy parachute pants (thrifted) - C-.  In theory these should be perfect for my style, the light weight material, etc, etc.  But they don't hold in my flabby tummy.  Very unflattering with a shorter top which is what is needed.  Maybe when I lose the tummy fluff they will be better but then they will probably be too big as they are the correct size now.

Black Knit with white stripe (thrifted) - B-.  I like it but it is not such a great acrylic.  I find some acrylics are better than others.  This one needs frequent washing, IYKWIM ;).

Maroon Bucket Bag (thrifted) - C.  Too big - I cannot find anything in it!  Would not buy it now.

Wow that was long Suz if you are still reading.  Thanks for getting me to analyze my purchases.  I think I did okay.  I am definitely honing my style and making better choices thanks to YLF!

The Toas Moc Star in a greyish blue color (I don't know what it's really called) was a surprise workhorse for me this summer. They were an impulse purchase and I am amazed at how easily they have worked for my summer wardrobe. I wear them at least 4-6 days a week. It's not only the color that works well, but also the canvas material. Definitely my best purchase for this years summer wardrobe.

Two items I have rarely worn this summer are sandals and plain t-shirts.
I adopted a formula of graphic t and colored sneakers with shorts or pants and sandals just fell off the radar. I've worn them most often when dressing up, but rarely with shorts, I always grab the sneakers instead. I was thinking about this and I realized it's because I like to wear socks! And I don't favor the socks and sandals look, so sandals stay rarely worn this season.

Plain t-shirts, every time I've tried to wear one this season I've swapped it for a graphic t. I had to give this some though too, and I'm realizing that in the summer, I don't layer often. I use my plain t-shirts when I layer to give the outfit visual interest. But in the summer, I'm getting my visual interest from the graphic t's.

And a big THANK YOU to you Suz for starting this thread. I was eyeballing the Tory Burch sandals I have put in the finds. I've been considering these all season, they are gorgeous and I had a specific outfit in mind to wear them with, and they just went on sale. But after thinking about my summer MVPs and belly-flops this year, these sandals would not be a good purchase. It's a higher price point even at the sale price and I now realize that I would rarely wear them. The CPW on these will not be very good. So thank you for saving me from making a poor purchase! If I want white sandals a pair at a lower price point would make more sense for this leg of my style journey.

  • Dee replied 1 month ago

Happy that the orange sandals worked out well for you despite them being a bit out of your colour palette. Shame the red Mary Janes have some limitations in their use, cause they’re awfully cute. Flat shoes are tough to wear for me as well.

With summer being so darn hot this year, it was a couple of shorts that I thrifted which ended up being the big winners so far this season. I had specifically sought out shorts that were a high waisted chino style. I really like this silhouette because they are roomy in the thighs, still look polished and are a comfortable length to wear. A++

Sandals were another success story. I bought a pair of cognac Merrill’s which have worked out great. Nice foot support and cute styling. I also thrifted a pair of Taos slip-on sandals in pewter. They were in perfect condition and are so comfortable to wear, especially like the metallic finish. A+

As you know, from my previous post, white tops are a struggle for me to wear as stand alone items, but still I added 2 this summer which  haven’t been worn yet due to my perceived issues with white tops. There is nothing wrong with them aside from the colour white. The eyelet blouse is really cute so I’m sure I’ll mange to wear it in an outfit at some point. The plain white tee will most likely  be worn under some sweaters or with a cardigan in the fall. C-

Other summer purchases like a printed top and skirt were made during the recent sales, so I haven’t had time to put them through their paces yet, but I’m hopeful they will work out for this season and beyond.

  • Suz replied 1 month ago

Thanks for chiming in, everyone. I'm finding these reports interesting.

Dee, I love the new printed skirt and top! I predict. you will get wear from those when you get the opportunity. And of course, it makes sense your white tops got less wear, under the circumstances. ;)  But the sandals and shorts look great. A slip on is super useful to have in summer. And I love cognac in accessories -- plus is bookends your hair a bit.

Lisa, I'm glad I saved you from those sandals! They are really pretty, though! I made the mistake last year of buying dressy sandals which I have worn precisely twice since. Luckily, they were a sale item and are a classic style, so I will likely wear them again, but certainly not often! My lifestyle does not demand or even allow dressy footwear. Lesson learned.

Star, I think it is safe to say that black items were a hit for you this season! :)  Also, I'm interested to note your discovery that a Zara item was of relatively high quality. I have noted this, too, with some of their items. I do very well with the right Zara items -- they wear long and hard for me.

Helena, you did brilliantly! I love every one of those items for you, though I can see why the olivey tee wasn't quite right. The *right* olive is great on me, too, so I'm sometimes tempted, but it is really hard to find it.  Your style has never been more authentic and relaxed than this year -- so glad to hear your choices worked out!

Brooklyn, the overdyed jeans experiment was such a hit! You were so clever to think that up and then do the job wth such amazing success! It's no wonder you reached for winter skirts less. I have found that I almost never wear skirts/ dresses in winter now, either -- and this has happened since jeans and trousers got wider. I think for me there is a connection. With the wider pants, I have the comfort and "swish" factor a skirt might give, plus I don't have to worry about my cat running my tights. ;)  I love your boots and sling bags -- the sling style is one I should also keep my eye on. Sort of a marriage between crossbody and hobo.

Roberta, I can see why those culottes would be a hit -- easy to wear, easy to style up and down, relaxed. And the sandals look like a perfect match with them! I like the contrast between those and the bright bag. Together they suggest an interesting closet overall! Which I know you have.

Bijou, you have fully embraced the wide leg jeans trend and I entirely get it! I think they have a bit more of a "glam" feel than slimmer jeans which fits with your style persona and allows you to feel a bit special even when wearing denim. Which I suppose was the idea behind the blue dress, as well (even if it is not made of denim -- it has that look) so I understand its appeal. Maybe it will prove its worth in the transitional seasons. I hope so, because it would look gorgeous on you! I am sure the green dress is beautiful on you also!

Looking at my donations, none were current shopping errors. I did think I had messed up and bought a nonreturnable Tommy Bahama gauze dress that turned out to be brighter yellow than the mustard it appeared on my screen. But there was a thread about vacation wear, and I realized it will be fine for our warm weather treks. So I am not worried about it, it will have it’s time (literally) in the sun.

  • Suz replied 1 month ago

cat2, that's an excellent report! And I think you are wise to hang onto the gauze dress. Sometimes at the end of a season, I've donated items before they've really had a chance to work out for me -- maybe the weather that year was unusual or my activities differed from what I'd expeted. I've learned that it is best to hang onto them in the holding zone until next season -- they might become unexpected workhorses.

  • JAileen replied 1 month ago

I’m glad your orange sandals worked out.  You’ll be surprised to learn that I have orange sandals.  I ordered grey Naots from Zappos and while the box said grey, the sandals inside were orange.  I called them and they told me to keep them.

My instant workhorse this summer was a pair of tan Bernardo Miami sandals.  I love Bernardo sandals.  They are all leather.  There’s no padding, but I wouldn’t wear them for a hike anyway.

I’ve started wearing more and more olive, and tan looks nice with it,  i have been using a vintage Coach Court bag (photo looks exactly like my bag).  I also bought a couple of sleeveless tops that went right into rotation.  I’ve worn shorts and a sleeveless top nearly every day this summer.  (July was hellish, with fifteen days at 100F or higher.)

  • Suz replied 1 month ago

JAileen, that is so interesting about tan taking on a bigger role in your closet this year! It does make sense, with the olive. And olive is a great colour for you. I think of it and burgundy as similar -- both colour and neutral. The best of both worlds.

Do you wear the orange Naots? They would work with the olive!

Bought for summer 2024 and wearing:

Bottoms: I’ve had to replace most of my bottoms in 2024 now that I’m solidly a size 6.  I started with jeans early in the year and a pair of pale blue cropped Jules Jeans have become my favourites.  They are a heavier 100% cotton, but looking just at May-June-July-and half of August, I’ve worn them 24 times.  3 pair of new shorts (teal, burgundy, black) totalled a whopping 74 wears so far.  All get an (no + because not particularly fashionable.)

Tops: A teal sweatshirt (to replace a fabulous French terry yellow floral patterned hoodie that wore out) is getting a lot of wears as an early morning top after swimming or when the AC gets to me in the evening. (because laundering has resulted in some fading.)

Dresses: I don’t wear dresses and skirts a whole heck of a lot, but my numbers will be up this year compared to previous based on frequent reaching for a thrifted chambray sleeveless shirt dress.  A+

Even newer:  Too new to tell, but a thrifted Marvel T-shirt has a high happiness factor, and the only thing keeping me from wearing it every day are comments from the peanut gallery! :-D  And learning from my love of the chambray dress, and a red sleeveless button down, I picked up a cotton navy and white polka dot sleeveless button down and it went into immediate rotation.

Footwear: After searching and searching, I was able to find replacements for the navy Converse sneakers that wore out.  I have black and white ones, but the Navy ones get worn twice as much as the other colours.

Oldies but goodies: new, but double digit ‘wears’ since May are two linen button downs, and a navy and white mariner.

The only duds so far (that have been moved out) is a poplin shirt dress that was noisy, and a bra bought final sale (online) that looked like my favourite bra - but wasn’t - and didn’t fit! (for the reasons stated) :-(

  • MsMary replied 1 month ago

I am a die hard flip-flops lover, and this summer I have fallen in love with this slightly elevated version from Clark's. I have them in three colors and can walk all day with nary an ache or a blister.

I have also enjoyed this breezy gauze dress from Caslon, even though it is a maxi on me.

And finally, the clear plastic heels have been a surprising summer workhorse!

Oh, and the fab Gucci tote my husband bought me for Christmas has finally come out to play in the warm weather and is having a grand old time!

  • Suz replied 1 month ago

Carla, you did well. That style of classic sleeveless collared shirt looks great on you and I can see why you would duplicate it. I used to love shirts like that when I lived in Ontario. I had a bunch of them from 90s into the 2000s and was sad when they disappeared from retail for a while -- the 90s revival has been good for them! Glad the thrifted dress has also been a winner. And the Marvel tee!

  • JAileen replied 1 month ago

Ha!  No, I haven’t been wearing the orange sandals.  I think they’re still in a plastic bin under the bed.  I really should think about some outfits they could work with.

  • Style Fan replied 1 month ago

Summer dressing has been a challenge for me. I needed to find some warm-weather bottoms for dog walking/casual day wear and a few tops. A couple of years ago, I bought two pairs of shorts from Lululemon that I liked, but I didn't have any tops to go with them. My tees were ancient and past their prime.

For Summer, I added the following to my wardrobe:

    Tops
Denim Shirt - Frank and Eileen (Poshmark) - A+++++
I can wear this shirt with my jeans, Jesse Kamm pants, and new shorts. It has the right vibe for my wardrobe. It's a workhorse.

Alberta Shirt Paprika - Jesse Kamm - (Poshmark) - A++++++++
I bought this shirt last December but didn't wear it until this summer.  It has been a love affair.  Mr. SF loves it, his friend commented on it, and others said they loved it.  The colour is perfect for me, and the design is so cute.  The sleeves are balloon/dolman but flattering.

    Olive Linen Shirt - POMP - A
I wore this shirt with my jeans a couple of times. It looks great, and it will be around for a long time.

HJ Tee Rouille Brownish Orange - Harly Jae - A++
I am just starting to appreciate this tee. I have been wearing it with my shorts and jeans.

    White Cotton Blouse - Velvet - Poshmark - A
It is a beautiful but simple blouse I will probably wear with jeans.

Cotton BF Pale Khaki Plaid Button-Up - Everlane - Total Belly Flop
This shirt is gigantic. It is an XS and could fit two or three of me.  I like an oversized shirt for hot summer days, but seriously ????  I bought it on sale, so it is not returnable.

    Bottoms
    Denim Shorts - Everlane - A+++++
MVP, I have worn these shorts several times a week.  They fit me perfectly and are super comfortable.

    Footwear
There is nothing new here. For the past few years, I have been wearing Birks, Finn Comfort sandals, and sneakers.

  • Joy replied 1 month ago

I wore sneakers a lot more than ever before. I liked the look of white ones and light orange. I never wore metallic silver or gold. That was a change. I wore white pants a lot and reached for hot pink… a color on trial for a season. I think I liked the fit of them, but I think I liked the smaller fit of the capri pants I got to go with the top.
Footwear : I did not miss heels or sandals at all so far. Summer days started cool. The day got warm if the sun came out. A bit of rain often cooled things down. So far August seems cooler than normal.
Flops are tops that have become too big and need some closures at the neckline more than safety pins. I just need to buy some smaller tops and rule out all v necks.

  • avicennia replied 1 month ago

Just like your red Camper Mary Jane’s, my marigold Camper flats were a C. I get Angie’s comment about not all shoes needing to be walking shoes, but these shoes are so flat I can feel every pebble and cobblestone under my feet.

  • Joy replied 1 month ago

I bought very little new. Some white perforated sneakers which are a bit black elastic laces make them pull on and off. Tousers ftom in navy a color I needed, green ( odd color of grass green) I had to send for them due to small size. Would not buy in person. Not a bluish green at all plus good fit so am keeping them. Red-0tange. Will be good for December with a green sweater.
That is about it. Maybe a pair of navy sneakers for water but can be regular sneakers. I think I will wear them with socks for colder weather, but for now they are with the swim stuff. I had planned on adding dresses but so far is is just a couple of long trendy denim skirts. The faded blue color is a cargo skirt. The white is very plain. It has front pockets that I love. These skirts go with all my assorted sleeveless tops.
I am off animal prints and jackets this summer. I planned to wear them but have not worn them at all. Neither have I worn the usual long skirts. Maybe this month with blacks, navy and other dark colors. Group I belong to has gone to black skirts and white tops rather than the rather awful Klu Kluck Klannish white robes they used to use. I have had to get a new black skirt. My older shoes and booties are about worn out. I can no longer find colors to fit my 2 sizes of narrow feet. Those may hang around until I find some. Red orange is especially hard to find. They must not be heels or sandals. That makes it harder as cute shoes now are often one of these. What can you not replace?

Joy, it sounds as if you've had some shifts in your preferences and have needed (or will need) to update some items to get a proper fit. I'm really glad you are not missing sandals and finding it easy to get appropriate footwear. I like the idea of hot pink or fuchsia for you.

Avicenna, what a nuisance about the Camper flats. I am thinking of putting an insole in mine and seeing if that helps. I think there is enough room for this to be possible. It's so annoying because my at-home wears suggested they'd work. No such luck.

Style Fan, you made some brilliant purchases. It is interesting that the Everlane bottoms were a complete hit and the shirt, not so much. Was it a buy-this-to-get-free delivery purchase? I sometimes mess up with those. But I am wondering if you could wear it crossover style, or tied, or else crop it a bit to make it work better?

Mary, you really went all in on those sandals and I can see why. They look great on you (thinking of your recent off topic thread where you are wearing a pair.)
