The silver jeans experiments. ETA more photos.

Up for review and discussion, two more silver jeans!

My initial silver jeans experiment was with GAP's faux leather ones.

I ultimately decided to return, because I just wasn't sure I'd feel comfortable wearing them.

These two are from Zara. The first pair (Pic 1) have to go straight back, but I wanted to show them to you all anyway. Maybe they will work for someone!

They are called the "boy boy" style and boy, I think you'd have to be a boy, with zero hips to get them on. These are in my recommended Zara size, two sizes up from my usual size. But, ahem, I can't even get them all the way up.

For reference, these are a beige denim underneath a fairly thick silver coating that is a bit RATE in places. They are very baggy all the way down. There is a button fly. The overall appearance at the end of the day is a warm, bright, light silver. They are a bit "crunchy" in texture, however. But if you are a true IT and you size up, I think these could look really cool.

Pair 2 is a slim straight with silver pigment impregnated on grey denim. So the overall effect is more like dark silver or pewter, much cooler toned. They are not at all crunchy. The hem is raw so it could either be trimmed to ankle length and left, or hemmed to that length. (I don't think they work well full length on me because they interfere with my footwear.) Unlike the first ones, they fit and they are very comfortable.

I didn't "style" these so much as throw a few different things on to see how they might feel.

I'd love to know your impressions and thoughts, and I hope these reviews might help someone else who is hunting for metallic items while they are trending!

ETA: to give these jeans a fair shake I tried with different lighting, with the hems *almost* where I'd want them (hard to do by rolling up inside...), legs straight, and with some different light conditions. I don't think the crotch area's a problem. And I hope these pics (8 on) give a better sense of the colour. Will also post downthread.

    goodbye boy boys :)

LOVE the jeans you are wearing in pic #5! KILLER styling too :)

Are they the same jeans in the rest of the pics - other than #1?

  • Suz replied 11 months ago

Yes, Same ones, Angie. Just a different distance from mirror or angle with camera or whatever. Or light... And thanks! Oh, and I threw on heeled sandals just to see how they'd be with a slight heel. I put all my boots away so couldn't try those. I just refuse to allow it to be as cold as it is again today, LOL.

Ok now these I like ! ( the 2nd Zara ones I mean ) . The only sort of quibble or question I had is the , uh, grinning / folding around the crotch area . Is the rise a tad short ? Maybe it’s just what shows with metallic jeans , I don’t know . Anyways , I really love this colour far more than the tin foil ones . Alyson Walsh did a post on silver jeans last week - did you see it ?

  • Suz replied 11 months ago

Thanks, Lisa. Rise isn't too short, no -- if anything it might be a touch long, but I see what you see in some of the pics, too. I'll try on again to examine more carefully. I could try a size up, maybe, but those would sit lower for sure because they'd be very loose. Could be more like they fit the model, though...

Looks like I can't view the Walsh post because it's behind a paywall...

  • LJP replied 11 months ago

Oh - that’s odd . I guess it was one of her Patreon posts . I’ll see if I can copy the photo for you .

  • LJP replied 11 months ago

I find the colour pairing really interesting .

  • Suz replied 11 months ago

Thank you! Yes -- that's a great pairing. Cool and warm!

  • CarolS replied 11 months ago

Ooh, I like that cool/warm combo, too!!

  • CarolS replied 11 months ago

oh, and back to the actual point of the post, these jeans look fabulous on you, Suz -- very much the luminous component!!!

Now I'm curious to see what the impact of a size up would be...

Silver jeans may be old geezer magnets.  Be forewarned.  They sure are great for holiday events. I little casual but perfect if you need to be able to move easily, like at a charity auction.  Your jeans would look great with a simple black top like a cashmere sweater.

  • slim cat replied 11 months ago

Great new jeans - just made for you ;-) !

  • Katerina replied 11 months ago

I really like the second Zara pair, I liked the ones you returned too, but these are even better. The color and the finish are great - love the kind of metallic grey look rather than a shiny silver (for jeans).
On the model, it is a different look all together imo, low and a kind of a dropped crotch. Would that be a look you would like?

  • replied 11 months ago

I noticed the crotch fit too, which would be a dealbreaker for me. Or I'd pair them with a long top. Otherwise I like them though!

  • Janet replied 11 months ago

These are better than the first ones, I agree! I do see the wrinkles at the crotch point, which is a common thing for me, and I just live with it in regular jeans, but it is more noticeable in a metallic because of how it catches the light. If it doesn’t bother you, I think these are a fun choice!

  • kkards replied 11 months ago

Lol, this is why I gave up on Zara, the sizing is inconsistent at best.  the fact that the 2nd pair appear so shiny in the stock photo, but so much less in your pictures. not having a physical store I just gave up

Anyway, I think these might be the kind of item that IRL fit in a way that is different from how they look in the photos.  That being said, I love the color and can see these as being a great statement piece that would be fun to dress up or just throw a sweatshirt on with and make a boring Tuesday feel special

  • Dee replied 11 months ago

Oh the 2nd pair here are fab, less of a tin foil vibe, I think the lines near the crotch are probably fine IRL but maybe more noticeable in a photo Love all your stylings especially the texture contrast of outfit #7.

  • Suz replied 11 months ago

Thanks, all! Helpful input. I appreciate your thoughts!

The lines on the crotch are, I think, much more noticeable in the photos than IRL. Because of the metallic shine and the lights I had to set up just to get pics, LOL. You'll notice that they appear most noticeable on the leg that is bent -- it's picking up the light from above. I'll try to take some straight on pics -- hard to do, but you'll see the difference, I'm pretty sure. This is the fabric buckling with movement.

I also think the effect may be exaggerated because the pants are the wrong length. I don't know if I can explain it, but you get extra fabric in the leg area that bunches when a pant is too long, even if you try to "hem" it by tucking it under.

Katerina is right -- the model's wearing hers several sizes too large so they are drop crotched -- which wouldn't be comfortable for me IRL.

  • Greyscale replied 11 months ago

Ooh, thanks for sharing the new options! It's a shame the boy ones are so straight in the hips. The second pair looks much better - I noticed the same fit concern as others but I definitely believe it's better in person.

I think I'm inspired to find a pair that works for me. It's a little more sparkle than my usual, but I think I could make it work.

  • Suz replied 11 months ago

I'm going to do another try on session and see if I can show them in a better light, so to speak. :).  I appreciate all the input.

I think these could really work for you, Greyscale. They are more pewter, so a bit easier to work into outfits with black. And we have a similar body type I think.

  • Suz replied 11 months ago

New pics for reference -- standing straight, different lighting, hems adjusted more carefully.

  • Tanya replied 11 months ago

They look perfect in the new photos, Suz! A very enthusiastic keep vote from me.

  • Dee replied 11 months ago

Yes they look just fine to my eye too.

  • Angie replied 11 months ago

    KILLER PERFECT :)

  • Greyscale replied 11 months ago

New photos are awesome!! They’re perfect.

  • Irina replied 11 months ago

This is a perfect fit in my books :)

  • Suz replied 11 months ago

Thanks, all. They have some ease, which I like, and I do like the more subtle silver/ pewter of them -- I think they will be easier to wear than the first pair.

But a fellow fabber has recommended a pair on sale at The Bay by a brand I do not know (Own). I'm going to give those a try, too. If they are a little wider in the leg I might prefer them. We shall see!

  • Jaime replied 11 months ago

Wow, love the silver, love the fit. Just don't wash often and carefully!

  • LJP replied 11 months ago

New photos are much better - love these .

  • kkards replied 11 months ago

    Fab!

  • Janet replied 11 months ago

Yes, I think light and photo angles can make a big difference in how items like this are perceived. I think these are great! Just a little envious, since I am drawn to metallics but look awful in shiny pants! I will enjoy vicariously through you! :-)

  • jussie replied 11 months ago

I absolutely love these!! Fit looks good to me. So stylish.

  • Katerina replied 11 months ago

    Perfection, Suze!

  • Greyscale replied 11 months ago

Just lemming’ed them, will report back!

  • Suz replied 11 months ago

Ooh, I hope they work, Greyscale!

I've ordered the ones from The Bay as well for comparison. We'll see who the winners are! :)
