Travel Capsule in Action (including culottes of controversy)

What can I say? I was having so much fun with the culottes of controversy that I popped them on before I left for my trip -- that's right -- wore them! And I've worn them now four times in a week! :)

This is a family trip in Vancouver/ Victoria -- very rushed and packed with friend visits and family. So glorious to be out here away from the humidity. And my clothes are working really well for me. Ecco sneakers, CoH crops, old LLBean mariner (the trusty sweater that just won't quit), white jeans, and culottes are big winners.

Added more Finds so you can see how it all works together.

What a gorgeous blue&white travel capsule, Suz!  Very you in every way.  The culottes have managed to fit in pretty seamlessly, and I am glad to immediately made an appearance.

  • deb replied 8 years ago

You look wonderful in all. The C of C are a great addition to your wardrobe.

  • JAileen replied 8 years ago

I'm not sure why the culottes are controversial. You look great in all of these. I especially like the top in #2.

When we visited Seattle last month I didn't think the humidity was low. You ought to visit my area if you want low humidity (don't forget your lip balm, though).

Now I even more want culottes of controversy.  I deny that I ever had doubts. You look fab it all these outfits and it looks like a great family vacation.

  • chewyspaghetti replied 8 years ago

Looks great and comfortable for travel- enjoy your trip Suz!

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

Really nice capsule - love the outfits you've shown. Hope you have a wonderful time!

  • Karie replied 8 years ago

I love posts like this - stunning capsules with the Finds attached (so I can be a lemming)!

That statement, "My clothes are working really well for me" really resonates with me - I mean, that's the ultimate goal, isn't it? And your clothes, as evidenced here, DO work extremely well for you. I'm getting there, but I'm not quite there yet (in spite of being a teacher, I'm not a fast learner, probably because I always think I'm right! HA!)

And count me as a CCC (culottes of controversy convert). You look fantastic in how you've styled them!

  • Muffin replied 8 years ago

You look great- a very workable capsule and the culottes seem to fit in perfectly. 4x in one week--I would call that a success! We were in Victoria earlier this summer for a weekend and had such a great time. Canadians are so incredibly friendly (except the Lululemon store for whatever reason). We stopped in the Black Goat cashmere store and I left drooling and still thinking about it- are you familiar with the brand?

  • MsMary replied 8 years ago

I missed the controversy but I love those culottes so much I just ordered a pair for myself! And I love the rest of the pieces and outfits, too! French sailor top for the win!!

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

(Can I gloat? I KNEW you'd love those denim culottes. They couldn't be more fun or perfect for you).

    Go Team Wear.

Suz, I LOVE your outfits. Killer all round. You are a casually stylish tourist, and your capsule looks perfect. How CUTE are you in that neon pink! And the grey hair is delightful and yummy.

    *sobbing*

You were on my doorstep and I missed you.

  • anchie replied 8 years ago

Great capsule. Did you include everything what you brought in the Finds? How long was the trip? I am always on the lookout for the good travel capsule and yours look like something that can work for me too.

  • replied 8 years ago

My favourite is the BC Ferries outfit. I love the combo of the pink and stripes. I should get that LLbean pullover. So useful.

Also love you in the culottes and silver.

Wishing you a wonderful visit in Van/Victoria.

  • RobinF replied 8 years ago

These are all fabulous! Love that shiny silver bracelet! The culottes are working great for you, I may need to try some.

I was just in Vancouver for a few days and absolutely loved it! Glad you are having a nice trip.

  • Sara L. replied 8 years ago

Lovely outfits!  I think a true test of wardrobe greatness is whether you can easily pack for a last minute trip.  It looks like yours has passed with flying colors.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Angie, I KNOW. I am heartbroken that I have to miss Seattle again. But stay tuned. I have more trips this way and a much longer stay in the near future

I'm on the phone but will answer other questions soon. Thanks for kind compliments.

  • Glory replied 8 years ago

    Suz just lovely, all around.

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

Wow Suz, you never cease to amaze me... this is such a perfect travel capsule.  How is it that we have such different styles and need in garment shapes, yet I want every item here, and already have several of them?  Just about to add one more, thanks to this post... I LOVE that Zara tee!  And those culottes... fabulous.

So good to see more Suz WIW's!

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Elizabeth, you are so funny. I think our colours are a lot more similar now and while our body types are different I do have a square shoulder line so some of the same types of style work for me as well as for you. I just need a higher neckline as a rule (though I broke that rule with some of this summer's tops!)

    Glory, Sara, thank you!

Smittie, this pullover is indestructible. I have had it four or five years, it gets super heavy wear, and I love it. Best summer sweater ever.

Anchie, I have a few more items with me. Some simple layering tanks, a denim jacket, a gear rain jacket in hot pink (no Find, sorry) and a few scarves. Plus a swimsuit.

  • Gaylene replied 8 years ago

Welcome to my 'hood! And I love the culottes!

  • Eliza replied 8 years ago

Wow- you are rocking your vacation wardrobe options. Gorgeous photos and YLF. We are Ecco twins (mine are the purply blue) and they are great for summer fun. Love the culottes and your hair. Well done and enjoy!

  • Barbara Diane replied 8 years ago

You look happy and well put together. And I want to be there too. Looks so inviting.
Love the title of your post :)

  • gradfashionista replied 8 years ago

These items work beautifully for a vacation, Suz. I especially love that LL Bean stripped top on you.

  • tulle replied 8 years ago

Super cute outfits all around, and very Jean Seberg!  You look wonderfully happy and free.  I know I keep harping on it, but oh la la, that haircut! Honestly, have you EVER looked better?

  • El Cee replied 8 years ago

Glad you are enjoying your holiday. You look rested and radiant. The travel capsule is fabulous, stylish and very cohesive... and you know I already love the COC's (culottes of controversy). They look amazing on you.

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

You look terrific in all these lovely looks. Vibrant, happy, healthy and chic. The culottes look wonderful!!

  • jenanded replied 8 years ago

If imitation is the best form of flattery, I want to copy all these looks... and the silver cuff. Just amazing for having fun!

  • chouette22 replied 8 years ago

You, your hair, your outfits - everything is beautiful!

  • Greenjeans replied 8 years ago

Such a great line on you.  The wide leg is grounding, makes you look in-your-power, regal.  I love it.

  • Lisa replied 8 years ago

I missed the controversy, but I rather like these culottes.  They are a fun piece and sometimes you just need some fun injected into daily outfits.  Great capsule here, you sport silver and grey colors just as well as the purples and blues.

  • Lyn D. replied 8 years ago

    #1 I die! SO FAB!!

  • viva replied 8 years ago

What a great capsule! My favorite is #1 -- love that tee with the culottes and sandals! What a terrific look. I don't think I can justify another tee purchase in October, but I will love dreaming about it. You look wonderful.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Ha! Workhorses as anticipated! I love them with the check top as well as the silvery #1. The pictures of you on the boat deck are gorgeous!

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

    Thank you all!

Shevia, my daughter took those photos -- I will tell her.

I like them with the checked top, too. They work really well with a lot of my tops in fact. Mr. Suz does not find them in the least controversial, by the way! He thought it was weird that people had mixed views. I suspect they look quite different in person from the way they look in the pics.

Viva, Lyn, this tee is so fab. I love it!! Every now and again Zara really puts out a winner.

  • Summer replied 8 years ago

I love seeing capsules in action, and this one is fabulous, Suz.  The culottes are wonderful on you, as are the touches of hot pink with your mariner sweater.
My absolute favourite is 1.  The silver elements bring your look to life so beautifully.

  • skylurker replied 8 years ago

Silver and grey look so good on you now. And I like stripes and checks, too.

  • unfrumped replied 8 years ago

Just great! Blue, white, denim and silver has been s winner for you and it makes for perfect travel combinations as we-- gives a great range from true casual to dressy casual.

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Wow, Suz, nr 1 is TDF, you really nailed it all, proportions, color scheme, and shine! Esp. love the chunky silver cuff (I did wear  one similar all summer long and loved the drama that it includes in any outfit). Love your travel capsule as well, very well put together, and looking fab (as always)!!!

  • approprio replied 8 years ago

Can't imagine why the culottes are controversial. They look too fab for words. Nice holiday snaps.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Keep me posted on your Seattle arrival, Suz.

Btw, we're having a heatwave here - temps well into their 30s. Are you experiencing that too? (I am not complaining).

  • Jenn replied 8 years ago

This is amazing travel capsule for you! I love your mix of florals and stripes and solids, all in harmonious colors. The culottes of controversy look great on you, and are a good reminder for me that sometimes you have to go with your gut, even if the chorus disagrees.

  • marianna replied 8 years ago

Soooo fab all around! You're a stylish creature. I LOVE that pink scarf on you -- I want one!

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Jenn, going with your gut is important sometimes, yes. Especially if the item feels really wonderful. It doesn't photograph well but it works in my life.

Angie, no Seattle for me this trip, alas, but likely in the Spring.

The weather here is glorious. Not 30 maybe, but 29 or so. Beautiful and comfortable for me.

But I am chuckling at the "heat wave" reference. Compared to what we were experiencing in Ontario before we left, this feels cool and breezy. :) Our temperatures in Ontario were the same or lower, but -- you know I've said it before -- it's not the heat, it's the humidity!  Back there, 29 (or even 24) feels completely different -- much, much hotter than it feels here. And it never cools down at night, which is another difference here.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Oh my gosh, Suz, this is a fabulous travel capsule! I adore the first outfit, with the culottes, silver sandals, and foiled tee. Smashing! And the matching pink scarf and waterbottle--how stylish is that!?

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

OK -- I've been spotty on the forum, and I went back to page 2 to find this thread!

I went to Victoria, and Vancouver, and Banff when I was a young teen.  It made quite the impression, and your photos make me want to go back!

You look terrific -- love your sneaks and the way your casual tops have that bit of interest -- or you pop on a scarf, just to make them more "deliberate" and cohesive.

And my favorite?  Oh -- love those culottes!

  • Joyce B replied 8 years ago

Looking good, Suz. I am glad you kept those culottes. Your vacay looks like fun!
