Travel capsule: Spain

I'm off to Spain today! I have never been there! Going to visit my stepdaughter in Granada, and also to Madrid and Barcelona.

Temperatures are forecast to be mostly around 18-20 C but cooler at night (8-10) with a few rainy/cloudy cooler days (around 14). We'll be walking (a lot!), museum visiting, tapas-eating, wine drinking, attending flamenco performances, and who knows what else.

We will be gone for 13 days and I'm taking a checked bag because we won't have laundry and these mid-range weather conditions sometimes require layers. Plus, our activities will be varied enough that I'll want some dressier options for evening, and some more casual options for the day.

I realize for many this would seem a lot of shoes. What can I say? I need to vary my footwear.

Here's what I'm taking. Plus PJs and undies, of course. Undies include some camisoles to be layered under linen tees and shirts if desired. The navy tube skirt (that I just can't seem to retire!) goes with the blue jacquard top to make a faux "dress" and the leopard skirt is also a dressy look with the peplum top. But both skirts can also easily be worn as casual bottoms with the linen or other tees.

Travel outfit below. I wear this suit and sneakers look to travel a lot. These pants have nice stretch and some warmth (in case plane is chilly.) Scarf adds warmth if needed on plane. Jacket can be on or off, depending.

Have an excellent and safe trip, Suz! Watch out for pick pockets. The style quotient is high in Spain. You’ll fit right in!

I don’t think you’ve taken a lot at all. Looks perfect, and always good to have options. I bat for Team Put Luggage in the Hold.

You know you have to buy shoes in Spain, right :)

KILLER STUNNING travel outfit. A comfy suit! Why not! Perfect. Again.....I see a more maximal and sublime you.

    Forgot to say:

    Hair has softened. Looks beautiful.

AND YOU’RE TAKING TWO BAGS. I’ve rubbed off on you...

    Have a WONDERFUL time!

I will pour over your clothing choices when I have a bit more time, but it looks great at first glance.  I hope you'll take some pics of your mixing and matching, even if you wait til you're back to post.

Strange... I tried those Sloans, and found them itchy (and I have a LOT of Sloans).  Yet you find them travel-comfy.

Ooh fun! We spent a day in Barcelona and a day in Valencia when on a cruise - loved them! Valencia was wonderful if you get a chance to go there. I highly recommend the sangria in Barcelona! Good size to share - or not!

Oh and your capsule looks good to me - I always try to have the right shoes or it just feel off.

Lol. Yes to me, that’s a lot of shoes. On the other hand, I also feel it’s necessary to take more when visiting family. Great travel wardrobe!

  • Suz replied 4 years ago

Angie, so true!!! You really have rubbed off on me! So funny. Actually, even more than you know, because I took THREE bags!! One is not in Finds -- it's a tiny evening bag inherited from MIL. Can you believe it??? I thought -- what if we end up going to the opera or something? What if we go for a very dressy evening? :)

Bags all have top closures because there have been some issues in Barcelona especially.

Elizabeth -- that is sooooo interesting! My Sloans are not itchy at all. I also love it because I can throw them in the washer....

    Robin, that sangria looks amazing!

Shoes in Spain. ON it!! :)   Luckily, Mr. Suz has lots of extra room in his bag....

Suz, oh my goodness!!!! Ole! (I can't help myself.) You look utterly amazing, as does your entire wardrobe. Have bundles of fun and good food! xo

Great travel capsule.  I love Spain.  Barcelona is beautiful.  I bought shoes in Barcelona.  One of my favourite pairs ever and I still have them even though I never wear them.

"Actually, even more than you know, because I took THREE bags!!"

"Luckily, Mr. Suz has lots of extra room in his bag..."

HAHAHAHAHAH :) - that's what I like to hear. You have Mr. Suz well trained.

Pick pocketing is a huge organized crime syndicate in Barcelona especially - and run by women apparently. Be careful. I didn't put my bag anywhere but on my body or lap. Soooo many people we know were badly pick pocketed. Like wallets and passports. Mare.

Have a wonderful time, and please post pics! I'll be in Andalusia after Xmas so would love any tips about Granada especially.

My memory of Spanish fashion is that it is very *colorful* :)

Oh my gosh, I'm so jealous! You're going to have a great time. I love that you've incorporated some warm, spicy colours into your travel capsule. Eat some patatas bravas for me! :)

  • Inge replied 4 years ago

You nailed this, Suz, what an excellent travel capsule. And woohoo, I'm so excited for you!!! I've never been to Granada or Madrid, but absolutely love Barcelona!

    Have a brilliant trip!!

Looks like just the right number of shoes to me!  Same with bags.  Travelling shouldn't always be a feat of minimalism.

Can't wait to see some travelling pics - have a wonderful time :)

Fabulous and gorgeous Suz - a perfect capsule for your trip. Love the palette, and looks like you're ready for every occasion. Stylish and polished as you always are

My dad is heading to Spain this week to meet up with his sister, so if you notice a British senior sibling duo getting up to mischief, be sure to say hi ;)

Nice capsule. For Granada and other historic hilly towns with cobblestone streets, you need shoes with traction. At this very time last year, I bought a pair of Pikolinos hightop sneakers in Granada because it hadn't occurred to me. So good job on including sneakers!

  • Sal replied 4 years ago

Great travel capsule and I am with you on shoe changes and checked luggage on longer trips.  I always find a way of doing some laundry as I go.  Look forward to hearing about it!!

(And do not apologise for the skirt that keeps on going on - that is a celebration of a great well loved piece!)

  • Janet replied 4 years ago

Looks great! I think you’ll be well covered with these options. The trip sounds amazing — have fun!

  • Karie replied 4 years ago

    Perfect packing! Enjoy your trip!

  • Jaime replied 4 years ago

Shoes are the most important part of travelling - bringing and buying! I think you have arranged things perfectly. Have a wonderful time and try to sneak in some street style shots if you can!

  • Bijou replied 4 years ago

A beautiful travel capsule and I am with you on the shoes - so important to have happy feet when travelling. Have a wonderful trip!

  • Katerina replied 4 years ago

What a great travel capsule! I love the colour palette, as always. Nice number and variety of footwear and great bags to go with it.
Have a wonderful time and safe travels!

You'll be fine... just don't wear horns.

    ...and Ole !!

  • kellygirl replied 4 years ago

Wow, you have such a great capsule. Off to study how you put this together and do you ever look gorgeous in blue!

  • RainB replied 4 years ago

We visited Spain around the same time last year :) And I really should have carried more comfortable shoes. This looks like a fab capsule. Have a great trip!

  • Mainelady replied 4 years ago

Have an amazing trip!  You look great, ready for new experiences and adventure. Your capsule looks cohesive and stylish. Checking a bag allows you more clothing options and hopefully room to bring back any treasures from your trip, I look forward to seeing photos when you have a chance to post some!

    Love travel capsules!
Agree it’s nice where possible to have some truly “ nice shoes “ for dressy looks as well as great comfie shoes.
I hope to do some European travel in next few years so will look forward to reports of how the capsule worked. Have a wonderful trip.

No judgement from me on the amount of shoes. I’m off on an overnight trip this weekend that will involve a lot of walking and will bring at least 2 pairs. Taking a train but if I had my car I’d tuck a few more pairs in the trunk...nothing ruins a trip faster than foot pain.

Enjoy your trip and will look forward to the photos!
