Wearing the Wild Card

Remember the plaid taffeta skirt? As predicted, it's become an occasion workhorse. I've worn it multiple times since purchasing.

1. First time, no photo, alas, but with sneakers and a tee and denim jacket -- a live reading with some dancing involved!  Items in Finds. Trust me, it worked! That was early in September, when the weather was still warm enough for such an outfit.

2. Worn for an onstage performance. Skirt, sequin top, military jacket, pointed toe booties.

3. To a wedding! Masked in this photo (natch) but I wore with J. Crew brocade top, a black tuxedo jacket, statement necklace, dressy pumps. Loved this.

4. At home for Chanukah with my friend Lorna, with a thrifted cashmere sweater from years ago. Look at Lorna's awesome plaid culottes and stompy boots!

OMG!  This is so much fun, Suz!  Gotta say I love your friend’s style, too!  Happy Chanukah!

Wow - gorgeous all round, what a wonderful wildcard purchase! I love how with this skirt you can dress it up or down.

Lorna looks fabulous too, I love her statement specs. You both look amazing and the sort of women that everyone gravitates to - fabulous, interesting and fun.

Is that Lorna Crozier ? What great photos , and that skirt is the gift that keeps on giving ! I just saw this photo on Kate H’s IG - and was already thinking of you when I opened up YLF ;)

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

OMG, LisaP -- I have to see if I can recreate that  (minus the shaved head, sorry Kate!) I love the skirt so much though!

And yes, that's Lorna Crozier. She's a dear friend. Not to mention a brilliant poet. LJ took the photo last night -- the angle is a bit wonky but we had a fun time. Lots of candles and lots of wine and lots of laughter.

    You look amazing!

And I love the plaid twinning with your friend. What a stylish duo!

  • lozz_oz replied 2 years ago

How great is that skirt, and we get to see it on you standing up! Unlike the seated reading occassion ;)

Love it - great looks all around!

Oh Suz, I love these looks so much! I’m getting Cyndi Lauper vibes in that first photo. You look mahhhhhvelous!

That is a gorgeous skirt, and stunning on you. Love your friend’s plaid skirt too.

I love this tulle skirt sooo much, and great to see your friend, too-you both wore gorgeous, somehow matching outfits and it shows you had fun-also great specs on her!!!!:-)

Suz, your mastery of mixing the pieces in your wardrobe is inspirational.  The picture of you and your friend Lorna shows two modern, strong, confident and stylish women! Fun and fabulous!

Lol that I questioned whether you’d be able to use this skirt! All these outfits are great—the first sounds wonderful too—but my favorite pic is the last one. It’s how to do this growing older thing right—with a friend, and a laugh, each showcasing your own personalities with fab clothes that fit you just right, inside & out.

  • Helena replied 2 years ago

Gorgeous Suz! Your friend's style is fab too!

  • Janet replied 2 years ago

Love it! Especially the photo with Lorna.

Mine is still waiting for a debut. I guess your social life is more exciting than mine these days, LOL! Nothing dressy enough yet for me, although I’ll take this with me to NYC where it will certainly be worn out to dinner! The waist on mine is snug so definitely not for an indulgent occasion. ;-)

The photo of you & your friend in plaid skirts is all kinds of awesomeness! Love this on you so much!

  • RobinF replied 2 years ago

That skirt is so pretty! I love that you are getting so much use out of it too. All your versions look great, but I absolutely love the last one! Fab!

  • Irina replied 2 years ago

Awesome, absolutely awesome, Suz! It looks like it was custom made for you!

  • Mirjana replied 2 years ago

Oh, Suz you look sensational in that skirt. I can't stop watching. I understand why it's a wild card, fabulous, fabulous.. Beautiful culottes on Lorna.

  • Inge replied 2 years ago

Your gorgeous skirt was the find of the year, Suz!!! All the outfits are stunning, and it's just so fun to see you having tons of fun with it.
Your friend Lorna looks amazing too! What a stylish duo you are!

  • Angie replied 2 years ago

KILLER to the Power of KILLER all round :)

The skirt could not be more perfect, Suz! It's playfully elegant, and just sooo much fun! Fab with stompy boots and pretty shoes. Versatile!

LOVE your hair and pic with Lorna too......in complementary plaid skirts! Lorna's hair and specs are SUBLIME. How special to celebrate together.

Love that skirt on you and the ways that you have styled it.

  • JAileen replied 2 years ago

You and your friend both look fab!  What a great piece to add to your already enviable wardrobe.

  • catherine replied 2 years ago

Suz, you look amazing in that skirt. Thanks for posting these great outfits.

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Thank you all! The skirt is actually really easy for me to work into less formal occasions if I wear it with sneakers or stompy boots. I wouldn't wear it to work -- and i wouldn't wear it to climb a tree or go for a hike -- but I'd definitely wear it out for dinner (or in for dinner -- which Lorna and I were doing -- that was at home). And of course I'd wear it for an event. The next time I wear it will be New Year's Eve, probably. -- at home.

  • Gaylene replied 2 years ago

That skirt was made for you, Suz!  Love Lorna’s outfit as well; together you two are a dynamic duo!

  • Sal replied 2 years ago

These photos make me very happy as you look so relaxed and fun and interesting! So pleased you found the skirt and have places to wear it after a restricted year.

    I can’t pick a favourite - love them all.

  • MidwestrnChic replied 2 years ago

Suz you look fabulous, as always!  Really love that skirt and how you've styled it.  So versatile.

  • rachylou replied 2 years ago

Ha! Fantastic! I love the twinsies with your friend, that’s the best :)

  • Dana replied 2 years ago

So cute!!! Suz, I love everything you wear!

  • Aquamarine replied 2 years ago

Wow, so fun! You both look fab!

  • Laurie replied 2 years ago

It's so good to see marvelous you. And I just love the 2nd look, more dressed up for your event. I hope it was a reading from your recent book.
That's a magic skirt for sure.

Happy last night of Hanukkah to you and yours.

  • replied 2 years ago

I like 1 and 3 the best, the snug fit on the torso of the tops is a great balance to the almost cloud-like texture of the skirt.

  • Jaime replied 2 years ago

If you were a skirt, this skirt would be you! I especially love the picture with Lorna because it also showcases your hair - the cut and color are brilliant. You both look wonderful!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 2 years ago

Oh, my goodness, winners all around! These are such fantastic outfits, Suz. You are a style inspiration. I especially love the wedding outfit. You and Lorna make a very chic, elegant-hip pair.

  • Eliza replied 2 years ago

Perfection all around, Suz. I always find reasons to avoid adding skirts to my wardrobe (climate, fuss factors, flattery, finding the right top/topper). This post is inspirational and defies my concerns. You look fantastic and captured each occasion with your stylings. Next level! Love the pic with Lorna; so happy.

  • Jonesy replied 2 years ago

These pictures are such a treat! Who knew that this plaid tulle skirt would turn out to be so useful for your wardrobe :)? But in retrospect, it's perfect for your life and style! I love it all! And seeing you and your friend in coordinating plaid skirts, smiling so beautifully, is a pleasure.

  • Jenn replied 2 years ago

It looks fantastic, Suz, and you're definitely wearing the skirt vs. it wearing you. You couldn't look more comfortable and confident in it than you do.
