What I've ordered so far...what I'm still considering

So far, I've ordered a pile of basics (undies and bras) plus a dress, a scarf, a sweater, a pair of pants, and booties. (Finds 1-10)

I am also really interested in a few additional items and debating. (Finds 11 onwards).  I would love (as usual!) to update my jeans. I had to retire a bunch of knitwear and while I know knits are not great this year, I'm open to considering some. I'm also considering Angie's 1901 dress. I will be living in a more temperate climate for at least this coming year and it might be useful.

I'd also love a great waterproof jacket. I do own a terrific J. Crew waxed cotton field coat (that needs re-waxing) and a water resistant trench and a waterproof bright pink jacket that is definitely showing wear and sometimes feels a bit...mmm. GEAR for everyday wear. I like this Barbour option...but also love, love, love the Ralph Lauren quilted jacket even though it is not waterproof. I would wear that baby into the ground.

The Blondo booties are there because...waterproof Chelsea boot!!! YEAH!! (I have my wonderful pewter Elodies, which are not waterproof but are very hardy -- but I wore the soles down on those something fierce last year and need to conserve them!) The EF pump is there because....pointy/almond toe, straps but not straight across Mary Jane, covered heel and do-able height (for me) -- stable -- and I do not own a single dressier winter shoe. Only summer ones.

Would love to hear thoughts from those who have seen these items, reviews, recommendations for those I might have missed.

I love the Nik + Zoe sweater. I haven’t seen it in person. I haven’t seen anything in person..

  • Thistle replied 5 years ago

I think the 1901 dress should totally be yours!!

The Kut trousers are supposedly a top pick. Those would look fab with your tall boots, and they would work well in your current climate.

I love the Ralph Lauren coat for you!!  Is there anything stopping you from pulling the trigger? That looks totally you.

I think the cashmere blend hoodie is also a top pick. Would make lovely weekend wear.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Thanks, Janet. It does look like our neutral, right? :)

Would go with pink, too. :)

I also want a great navy or grey bag. I think the bags are underwhelming this year, though. Strongly prefer silver or pewter or black hardware.

Oh, and I love the Derek Lam coat. But not sure I need it.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Thistle, thanks for enablling!! That RL coat and the 1901 dress are great deals, so honestly, nothing is really stopping me on those...I should just order already! :)

  • replied 5 years ago

I have ordered, like you, the Zella pullover in navy and  the plaid skinnies.  I also placed an order for the Nic and Zoe top because I love the patterning and that side detail.  The EF heel pump attracts for the same reasons it does you.  My only concern is how narrow the toe bed is.  I do need a dressier shoe like that for Fall and Winter.  I love the quilted jacket--A LOT!  Have not tried it on or seen it, however.  I need new panties and will check out the ones you ordered.

  • Windchime replied 5 years ago

Great first round of selections. The Ralph Lauren coat is so sharp and classy! Did you order it yet? Since you love it so much, it’d be worth a try on.

  • Kathie replied 5 years ago

I've only seen two of these- the Feathers bra (which I'm assuming you know already) and the NS boucle hoodie. Personally, I thought it was a bit heavy for a layering piece. Not that you'd never wear it in Vancouver, but it might be more useful in a more temperate climate, if it opened in the front. It is a beautiful color, and if you run cold, would be snuggly on cooler, rainy days. And, it is a top pick.

  • Staysfit replied 5 years ago

Your choices look wonderful Suz. The only items I have received from my order so far are the sock booties so I don’t know anything about the other items you ordered. I did order the Nordstrom Signature boucle hoodie. It’s a bit out of character for me, because I’m not a fan of athleisure, but I loved both the color, and the texture. The style may not be right, but I will know once I try it on. Something about it seems appealing or I would have deleted it from my basket before making purchases. Are you leaning towards athleisure? There are two hoodies here, and to my eye, they are very different styles.

  • kkards replied 5 years ago

did you manage to get the aquatalia boots?
i think that you will like the zella hoody and can see you in both the dresses, so i think you should order the 1901 shirtwaist.
love the RL coat,..its got a dressy feel, but can see it working with jeans everyday...this coat just seems so you....i do like the barbour coat, love that it is waterproof, but its a totally casual coat, i just don't see it dressed up, if that matters to you.
i'd order both grey sweaters so that you can compare IRL....love the color of the nordstrom signature sweater, so i'd give it a try.
looks like you found some great things

  • replied 5 years ago

I’m voting for the blue RM structured leather bag.

I think the quilted Ralph Lauren coat would get used a lot when you move, even in the summer.

The dress is a slam dunk. I am very confident it will lol amazing on you and will be very useful pre and post move.

I’m not sure about that non-gear gear raincoat. I would suggest a thigh length one. It is gear but the thigh length gives it some semblance of elegance :-)

  • Thistle replied 5 years ago

    *shuffle shuffle*

Not really sure any of the bags are you. I honestly think you can find something more "you", and with the amount of use a bag gets, it would be worth paying full price for it.

  • Keix replied 5 years ago

I bought the Kut plaid skinnies. Did you size down, or at least take the smaller of your sizes? I had to size way down to a 00 (I'm usually 26 in premium denim, sometimes 25). I initially took a 0 and 2 into the dressing room with me and didn't even bother trying on the 2. I don't necessarily think that the pants run large for everyone but I know you are narrow-framed like me.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Thanks, all -- great thoughts here! Appreciate your input!

Keix, I ordered my regular size in the Kuts. I'd rather have them a bit loose than snug. I've had Kuts in 0, 2, and 4 in the past. The 4s were for a true BF look. The 2s had almost no stretch. The 0s were stretchy. I can probably wear all these sizes but 2 is my usual. I can send back if they don't work.

Thistle, I think the RM bag is "me" but not sure about the others. As I said, I'm not terribly enamoured of the sale bags this year. The RM is not a NAS item.

kkards, thanks to Elizabeth and Keix, I got the boots on order. Shipping via the US -- they won't be in Canada. But at least they came back in stock in my size.

Smittie, I'm not sure the RL coat would be used in summer in Vancouver!! But definitely in spring, fall, and winter. And the price is right. But who knows about the quality? I tend to agree with you about the gearish coat, though. Longer would be more protective and better. I mean, who wants wet thighs?? Very good point -- thanks! Also thanks for enabling on that dress -- it does look pretty darned good!

Staysfit -- good observation -- do I really need 2 hoodies??? MMmM. The colour of the Nordstrom Signature one is what is calling me. Also the fact that I had to get rid of a lot of knits last year and have about 2 sweaters left. However, winter is going to be different in Vancouver and maybe I don't need so much cashmere as I need in Ontario.

Kathie, that's great intel on that piece -- thank you! And yes, I've seen the Feathers bra, ha! :)

Windchime, didn't order the RL yet but think I might....

CJ, we will be NAS twins at this rate!! Yay -- you have great taste!! ;)

  • Elizabeth P replied 5 years ago

Some great choices Suz. Looking forward to seeing them on you, and what you choose to keep.

Were the duties on the kuts reasonable?

And... I got a London fog rain coat during bay days. Half price, nicer than gear, yet still waterproof. Not sure it’s as good as goretex for real weather, as I haven’t tested it fully yet. Just a thought for other options.
Although... given the rain and culture in vancouver, you may just want to go to MEC!

  • jussie replied 5 years ago

Well I insist you get that 1901 dress lol. I also like most things you’ve selected. That Nic and Zoe sweater is very nice, and I’m sure the quilted jacket would be a real workhorse too. All the shoes look like winners to me. The only thing I’m not as in love with is the hoodie. Only because it’s a hoodie ;).

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

WOOOHOO. Nice, Suz. I see plenty of top picks:

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Pass on this - dodgy quality:

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

This is a FUN pullover. Well made. Good fit. Size down. The grey was blah on everyone so it's not a top pick. But I'm not saying pass to you because the grey will come alive with your shiny grey hair.

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Oh yes - Blondos are SHORT - size up.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Ha, Angie, I'm a good reader of your picks! I'll cross the Halogen sweater off my list and continue to mull on the others! ;) If I don't order any, I'll be fine -- the booties were the most important items for me. But it looks like there is some consensus that I need to try the 1901 dress. ;)

Elizabeth, I don't know yet about duties -- I'm having them delivered to a US address. Re raincoats, you are probably right that I could find one in Vancouver just as well! Good point.

Jussie, I didn't know you were anti-hoodie! I am not in love with athleisure in theory but one of my most worn sweaters happens to be a cashmere cardigan hoodie. So I figure, who cares about the hood.

  • Colette replied 5 years ago

Nice! The only thing I've seen (and tried) in person are the EF pumps. TTS for me and comfy. I hope they work for you because I can totally see you wearing these.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Thanks, Colette -- they looked great on you!
Angie, thank you -- that pullover is in my collection of "possibles". Will strongly consider. I like the textures. And thanks for the compliment. Greys usually do work well and anyway the neckline of this would take a scarf.

  • DonnaF replied 5 years ago

Best wishes on your order! Good thing you are a regular size in pants. Every time I check, the Kuts have sold out in another Petite size so currently P8 is the smallest even though they still have down to Regular 00. Go figure. I ended up ordering a P4 and a 2; I usually like a higher rise so it may all turn out since I can just have them shortened which I would need to do for a Petite size anyway.

  • replied 5 years ago

Suz, above you noted you are a good reader of Angie's picks.  Are you referring to her Top Picks on her Finds page?  I've been watching for a post after the first one on 24 picks from NAS that highlights details on each item.  I have been studying Anglie's Top Picks on her Finds page.  I haven't participated in NAS for two consecutive years so I've just been following along, as we educate each other on the orders we're placing and then how everything is fitting.

  • Jaime replied 5 years ago

The dress is a standout and I would get it if I had a waist. The KUT skinnies would probably be my first realistic pick. Love the DL jacket - that would be an investment though. Like the EF shoes if I could do the heel. Rain jackets are always good.

  • Bijou replied 5 years ago

I hope you get the Longchamp bag, I have a couple of leather Longchamp bags and they are beautiful quality - they honestly are brilliant everyday bags that go the distance. I have had mine for about 4 years and they show no sign of wearing out.

Your other picks are gorgeous. I particularly love the red scarf you picked as I can see that working so well in your wardrobe.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Suz, I have not received anything from my order yet, but should get a quilted vest today. I also so far have mostly ordered underwear. Tell me more about the Kut plaid Diana's . They will probably be on my next order but I also have this brand and style in an assortment of styles. Does this pair have at least a mid high waistline? I want them to replace a similar plaid in greys that has been worn to a frazzle.
You may want to see how a Vancouver winter feels before getting too much. Preparing for rain is a given. I like cashmere even if it is not horribly cold. It can take the chill off and still breathe so you do not overheat.
Remember when Angie showed us a hoodie worn under a coat? I love that look with a pea coat, although my pea coat is too cropped for the length of the hoodie.

  • Angela H replied 5 years ago

I'm with Joy that cashmere can be a wonderful thing in Vancouver - the wet can make it feel really cold sometimes. And that colour is gorgeous!

If it fits under the RL coat, that would take you through quite a lot of our cooler weather - maybe not when it is cold, cold, but quite a bit of it.

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Are you worried about wearing cashmere on my side, Suz? I can assure you we wear cashmere ALL THE TIME. Right into Spring :)  The damp cold is awful - and colder than a dry cold at the same temperature.

  • LaPed replied 5 years ago

I LOVE the Derek Lam coat and the navy leather Le Pliage. The RM Regan is a nice shape, but those tassels would drive me nuts!

The quilted RL coat jumps out at me as very "you" -- looks like a good weight and length for PNW winter. Oh, and you managed to order the Aquatalia boots?!

I would wait on sweaters -- the hoodies look good to me, but the others are not very exciting for the price. The good knitwear always comes later in the fall, IME, with the "holiday" collections.

  • Gaylene replied 5 years ago

Another vote for cashmere on the coast! My cashmere hoodies are in constant rotation during our rainy season. Angie’s picks are dead accurate—surprise, surprise—for a PNW winter.

My only suggestion would be to consider choosing a light neutral for your outerwear instead of a dark. Two reasons: spring starts in February and lasts until May so it’s nice to have a lighter color during those months. And, second, a light neutral is much more visible when you are on foot during the darker, rainier months. Pedestrians wearing black and dark navy are invisible in the shadows and rain glare of dark, wet December day.

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Gaylene, hence I have a hundred bright coats :)

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Thanks for all these insights, all. I love the idea of a lighter coat/ trench but have yet to see one that appeals -- might have to wait until spring for that, which is fine. I do have my lavender wool coat (yay!!) and a cranberry wool coat. Would love a red rain coat or a white one.

Thanks for affirming cashmere will be good in Vancouver. My budget did not extend to cashmere last time I lived there. ;)

LaPed, I ordered the boots from the US to a US address.

Joy, I don't have the plaid Kuts yet -- it will take a while for things to arrive here.

  • SarahD8 replied 5 years ago

Suz just chiming in to say that I wear cashmere year-round in the Pacific Northwest! The heat has broken a bit here in Seattle and I am wearing a (lightweight) cashmere cardi as I type this.

I also thought the Ralph Lauren coat looks extremely you!

  • Author Linda replied 5 years ago

This is a good NAS for cashmere! I always love reading your selections and often follow-up on your choices because they also suit me coloring-wise. You have a wonderful sense of your own style and what looks good on you.

I think the RL coat would be really good on you.

  • K2 replied 5 years ago

I’m loving your selections. For those Blondos, love them, but do you need to size up 1/2 size or full size? I’d be paying the duty and taxes so wouldn’t want to get it wrong.... thanks.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

I am not sure -- I haven't ordered the Blondos yet. I might not order, either. Might wait.

  • replied 5 years ago

I truly think you will use that quilted coat in the summer in Vancouver! Today for example, it’s going down to 11C. Brrr!

I’m really hoping you can snag a pair of those blue Aquatalias!! Go Suz!

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

    11 C -- NO!!!

I am enjoying real summer here in Ontario!!

And in May when I was in Vancouver, it was gorgeous and hot!! June can be iffy out there though -- lots of fog. I guess they are getting it in July, too, this year.
