WI Bought: Sparkly tunic sweater

Concerned that I might not have the right ingredients for a very casual step mother of the groom wedding outfit, I went out shopping and tried footwear and various other things but no luck in that department. I did find this sparkly tunic sweater and in a soft champagne / taupe and bought it. It fills a need to experiment with more tunics so even if I don't wear it for this event it should be useful. And the price was right.

I see I have cut my feet off in these photos -- grr! But I am wearing the Pliner booties in most -- waving to Sveta.

Please ignore the light switch growing out of my boobs in #2. Sheesh!

This isn't really a K/R because I'm going to keep it. i just wanted to show a few options for wearing it. I think it will be useful for more casual holiday get-togethers including perhaps Christmas day.

I really like it - the color, the sparkle, the cut. The only think I am concerned is that longer side sticking out a bit in all pictures.  is it just the way you are standing or does it have too much fabric there?

  • Sharon replied 10 years ago

This looks great! And I am surprised at how different it looks with black compared to white. The black looks dressier, but the white is more casual glamour. The colour is perfect on you. I actually like it better without the scarf because it brings the colour of the top up to your face.

  • replied 10 years ago

Oh, that looks like a real score Suz! I love the color (or lack of it) and the shimmer makes it so flattering to your complexion. It looks like you're getting all the leg-lengthening benefits of a short top and arty drama of a long tunic with that high-low hem. The neckline is perfection on you! It looks like it has raglan shoulders, so that's a fun sweat-shirt-y nod. It looks great with every bottom you have pictured here, and I'm sure that's just a start. You might find that new sweater becoming a wardrobe MVP this season! :)

  • Alassë replied 10 years ago

I love it on you, Suz! Sparkle in your colors, arty asymmetry, better in each picture I click through! You definitely picked a winner.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

I love asymmetrical tops like this. The sparkle, the cut, the drape - it looks fantastic on you. I like all the ways you styled it, especially with the white jeans.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Well, SEE?  You can rock a tunic sweater!  This is a great length for you and the sparkle is so much fun.  I am finding my tunic sweaters and ponte skinnies with boots to be a uniform.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Sveta, I think it is a little wider at the bottom and might be sticking to my pants or something...it looks different in movement. Well, so I hope. ;)

Thanks, all. I admit I still don't think it is most flattering for me, but hey -- gotta try something new, right? Right.

  • donnat replied 10 years ago

    Love that tunic on you!

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

That looks like the perfect sweater for casual holiday events! And it looks plenty flattering on you, especially with all the slim bottoms you've paired it with.

  • viva replied 10 years ago

    I'm swooning......

Where is that from, Suz? I have been on the hunt for something sparkly that would work with leather panel leggings, and I am REALLY loving that on you.

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

The sparkley taupe is perfect with your coloring. Great find, suz!

  • E replied 10 years ago

Oh how stunning! This looks so good on you, and I can't wait to see you remix it. :) I LOLed at my screen w the light switch comment once I saw the pic!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

It is stunning. The tones are perfect for you. I love how this works especially with pants.

  • MuseumGal replied 10 years ago

What do you mean "not flattering on me"?!  It looks fab.

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

I think this is very flattering on you! I have been looking for a sparkly top and could not find one that fits. Where, pray tell, did you get this one?

  • dianne replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous sweater Suz!!! It looks good in every photo!

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

Oh! Divine. Just look at that neckline. I love it with the jeans, either colour. I just saw your other thread and there are great candidates there too, but this is just beautiful.

Btw, this is my idea of the perfect asymmetric hem. Just last night I took a photo of the cape at the Hermes shop, so I can have a visual for what I want to have on one piece of clothing some day. Now I want your sweater.

  • replied 10 years ago

Yes, please share where it is from! It looks great Suz, and will e a fun experimentation piece.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Wow! Well, it's really a nothing. It's I.N.C and I got it on super sale at The Bay. I just searched the website and couldn't find it there, but here it is at Macy's.  I paid the same here in Canada. Huh...don't you love the name? MOUSE. And how many years have I been trying to tell the world that I do NOT have "mousy" hair??   hahahahahah :)

I think it is a bit long on me, probably petite would be ideal, if it existed, but I do like it and am excited to wear it to a few casual events. It will look good with faded denim, too, I think. And the taupe jeans...if ever I can find them....

  • JulieJohn replied 10 years ago

I love it! The color is perfect for you, and I especially love it with unexpected white, so crisp and clean.

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 10 years ago

Suz, this sweater looks like it was made for you!   I really do love it :)

I am so impressed (and envious!) that you have this kind of style specificity these days.   I seem to recall you saying just recently you needed/wanted to play with tunics.   And then you mentioned a sparkly sweater on the stepmom-of-the-groom post, didn't you?   So you already had boxes to tick, and you did it with one, perfect, glorious sweater!

    I am beyond impressed :)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Oh, thank you so much LBD. I can't tell you how my shopping has focused this year. It's such a change for me. I will have to do a separate post on it. Before I joined YLF I HATED shopping. Now I really enjoy it and feel as if I am getting pretty good at it! (Mind you, it has taken me almost 3 years here, LOL.) I am pretty determined and ruthless now and don't waste any time. My best is shopping with Sveta. We live hundreds of miles apart but have enjoyed a couple of shopping trips together and she is awesome! Her PPP really has helped me hone my own. :)

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

Well that seems like the perfect first tunic for you! Taupe, sparkly, and the asymmetric hem makes the length totally manageable. Flattering, in my opinion. Looks great all the ways you've shown it here.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Love it! And I think it is in line with the edginess you have wanted to continue to add.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

More thumbs up from me. Diciplined Avant-Garde.

  • viva replied 10 years ago

Oh - love that I can try that at our Macys! Thanks, Suz!!!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

The asymmetrical hem just makes this for me! The sparkle and color are just right too. Yes, you have become a highly honed shopping machine!

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

YLF Suz what a great way to try out this look. I love Angie's "disciplined avant-garde".

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I love it, too -- thank you for the phrase, Angie. I think that's exactly the type of avant garde I need! ;) An urban prince cannot go too left field, you know. Too much draping is off for me...I lose myself. But if it is simple enough and mostly about the lines, well, then there is hope.

  • Gracie replied 10 years ago

This is a gorgeous top on you – the fit is beautiful on the neck/shoulders (well, everywhere, really), and before I read the other comments I also thought "Avant garde"... which I believe you said is a strong part of your style descriptor. It goes so well with your complexion and hair. My fave is 1/2, no scarf. I'm not familiar with The Bay, but am VERY familiar with I.N.C. as I have quite a few pieces from Macy's – it's a line I enjoy and fits me well too.

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Suz- savvy shopper, indeed! You look great in that color and I love the hem.

I have some quality knitwear, but at times prefer the chance to enjoy sweaters for shorter periods of time, with less investment. Great for trying new things or trendier pieces, especially when some pricier pieces wear quickly.

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

Oh! A great tunic for you... Congrats on the big event for your family :) ... And thanks for the macys link!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

You know what's funny?  I thought 'Well, this is on the short side for a tunic but for Suz it's so right" and here you are wondering if it should be shorter still!  My tunic are almost mini-dress length.  It makes me wonder, just what IS the definition of a tunic?

  • Windchime replied 10 years ago

I found it on the Macy's website and think it looks better on you than on the model!
It looks great with jeans and a skirt--what a fun and versatile addition to your wardrobe!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous!  So happy you were able to put your hands on a wardrobe-extending piece in a single afternoon!  I think the pairing with the white jeans would be terrific for a casual New Year's Eve look!

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

I haven't read the other posts, but I love this sweater. I am a sucker for hi low / asymmetry anything! I love the way you have styled them too. The scarf versions have to be my favorite! Great find IMO!

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

I like it, and I like hoe different it looks with black vs. with white pants. The white is a great winter- white "blonde" outfit while the black is good high- contrast for your.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

    LOVE!

  • Echo replied 10 years ago

Oh, this is such a fantastic tunic. I am not normally a fan of asymmetric hems, but it really works with this piece and the proportions are perfect on you. And the sparkles really bump it up a notch for the holiday season. YLF!

  • krishnidoux replied 10 years ago

It is very adorable. Outfits 5 and 6 are especially sexy, casual AND festive. Right on!

  • RunswithDolphins replied 10 years ago

Score!  The sparkly tunic looks great on you.  I personally prefer it with pants, booties, dangling earrings and no scarf.  Paired with your white pants and strappy sandals you could wear it all summer too.  Very versatile, elegant and sexy.

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

This is gorgeous, I love it and you look fabulous :)

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

Avant-garde and draped and yet streamlined! Holy grail there, Suz. I see you still have doubts... the eye sees not itself?

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

i love all the versions, but i must say, i'm smitten with the sweater and white pants! that look is just inspired

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

This is a great find.  My favorite part, is that it works so well with pants AND a skirt.  I think the length is perfect for you.  And the angled hem is such a fun detail, nice job!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

More love. I especially like the tunic with white pants/jeans. Let me know if you find a good taupe jean that doesn't look dusty.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

It has all the right components to be sure! Great neckline and color on you, sparkle and versatile hem length for wear with pants and skirts. Here's hoping you're close to solving your tunic puzzle.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Joy, I am still hunting for taupe pants. Gosh, it is a difficult business. I did see some decent looking ponte leggings in taupe the other day but they didn't have my size. Argh.

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

Beautiful Suz - looks great in proportion, color and how the sparkle lights you up. I love the hemline for you too - what a great find!

  • Freckles replied 10 years ago

The right taupe is so hard to find and  you seem to have hit it spot on too.  The colour and sparkle look divine on you.  So glad you found it at a great price point too...hurrah.

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

Oh great tunic, Suz! Perfect color and length on you. I especially like it with the white jeans and the black pants.

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

Suz I love how the taupey tunic goes so well with your hair coloring. You have good intuition with neutrals, I am stymied by that .
