WIB and WIW

Hello, all -- I'm scarce here these days due to the apocalypse and some  family stresses, plus, it's hard to post photos with no full length mirror (still!!!) --- but I did want to show off a few newer items and give reviews as well as a WIW in the wild.

First, meet my new indoor shoes. As I've told you all ad nauseum, low vamp flats (or even higher vamp flats without a strap) almost never work on me, so I had low hopes for these Ecco Anine ballet flats in Sangria. But lo -- I think they are going to work! I wanted a simple but pretty shoe that would offer me sufficient support and be easy on and off since in my new home I'm always coming in and out from the garden and deck and want to preserve our wood floors. This won't be my only option, but I quite like it.

True to size (for me) and enough support for indoor wear -- some cushioning in the footbed and a tiny 1/2 inch heel. Nice suede and really pretty colour options.

You can see how my instep is almost too high for the shoe here and one reason why I always flip out of these...the other being my relatively narrow heel. But these do stay on pretty well with bare feet, at least, and should work ok with a no-show footie as well.

Bonus shots of my new matching Rails shirt! It's soft and lovely. Oh, and bonus shot of my bathroom as well.

Then, a few shots featuring one of Runcarla's fab masks!! First outing of my beloved thrifted Paul Smith blazer this year for a dental appointment in the big smoky city.

Bonus (is it a bonus??)  shot of the sun on Saturday through the smoke at our place....

What a pretty shoe, Suz!  I really like your use of colour and texture in this combination.

  • Sal replied 3 years ago

That Rails shirt is just stunning on you.  Perfect colours.

I love these house shoes.  A good idea right now - in lockdown here I converted my Allbirds to house shoes but right now I am just wearing slippers or some new jandals/flipflops with lots of support.

The bushfires are very scary and frightening right now I imagine.  It is an eery sky.

You also look wonderful in your out and about look with Carla's mask.

  • kellygirl replied 3 years ago

What beautiful berry shoes! You look amazing, Suz! The blazer
And the jeans are a slam dunk. Sporty sneaks—functional and look very hip! Coincidentally, I went to the dentist yesterday and wore something very similar!

  • Jenn replied 3 years ago

You look great...love the blazer. What a perfect fit!

Your sky looks quite similar to ours, and interestingly, I just ordered a pair of ballet flats to act as indoor shoes, as well. My feet are telling me that I've spent too much time barefoot these past several months.

  • Suz replied 3 years ago

Jenn, that's it, right? I actually bought two pair of Fitflops this summer, planning to use one for outside and one for inside (summer wear) -- but then I started wearing them interchangeably, which was sort of beside the point. Anyway, they *do* provide me with the support and cushioning I need, whereas many slippers and even sneakers do not. I'm not sure how these Eccos will do because I can't put an insole in them (I tried) -- so the arch support is what it is and can't be adjusted higher. But it's definitely better than bare feet. And in the meantime I just ordered a pair of Fitflops for my outdoor autumn walks. And a pair of Fitflop clogs to wear inside as an alternative to the Ecco flats. We'll see how they work out. I like the ones you ordered! We each ordered one of the warmer, more fun colours in our palette...

Kelly, I hope your dental appointment went well!

Sal, thank you. And yes, these fires are terrifying for the entire world. Our smoke has apparently drifted to NYC and Nova Scotia...

Carla, thank you ,and thank you especially, again, for these masks. I LOVE them and wear them in preference to all others. Not that I have many others. Yours are just the best!

  • slim cat replied 3 years ago

Pretty shoes and blouse! You look lovely as always. Pic #7-9 are fab - love your scarf/mask combo!
I have the same problem with flat shoes - glad yours are working out.

  • Joy replied 3 years ago

Love, love, love those ECCOs. Did they fit you true to size? The berry color is perfect for you. There are some small stick on arch supports that might work for you. I forget where I found mine but they are probably Dr, Scholls from Target or a drug or grocery store display.. They take up way less room than a whole insert and I liked that you could decide where to place them. My feet in ballet flats are similar to yours, also narrow heels. Pre- pregnancy with a 10 pound baby, I had narrow feet. Ha!

  • rachylou replied 3 years ago

That *is* a good looking shoe! Great match with the shirt. And go Carla!

  • Suz replied 3 years ago

Joy, they are true to size for Eccos, so yes. I took my usual 37 in Ecco shoes. I will look out for those arch supports. I remember i had a pair in a wedge open vamp shoe a few years ago and it did offer some help. And thank you for your kind words.

Slim Cat -- thank you. And it always surprises me that so few people complain of this issue with flats. It is some comfort to know I am not the only one -- one of the benefits of this forum.

  • Brooklyn replied 3 years ago

Wow Suz. You look stunning. Love the shirt. *Starts thinking maybe I could wear that sort of neckline too...*

I’m sorry about the smoke. We had a similar experience last summer. So much to be anxious about this year.

  • Janet replied 3 years ago

Great color for you! And I know the difficulty of finding slip-on shoes that don't slip off the heel. I would love one of those Rails shirts, but none of the color schemes really rocked my boat. Yours looks perfect on you. Nice to see you!

Weirdly enough, the sun looks like this at sunrise and sunset here the last couple of days, all the way on the east coast. Sobering.

  • Laurie replied 3 years ago

Fab as always, Suz. I'm with you on needing at least a small heel on a flat (does that even make sense?!) Love that shoe on you. Everything else is great too.

Janet - was JUST noticing our mutual local sky, and thinking the same thing.

  • RobinF replied 3 years ago

Such cute shoes that it is a shame to keep them tied to the house! Love these colors on you, and the shoes with the plaid are beautifully matchy.

Hazy sky here in Michigan too - these are strange days.

  • Helena replied 3 years ago

Super-cute Suz, and raspberry is so lovely on you!

  • JAileen replied 3 years ago

The new shirt looks great on you, and the new shoes look good, too.

Our air looks the same - unhealthy for all.  My new obsession is checking the AQI.  We’ve been staying inside and it’s depressing.

  • nemosmom replied 3 years ago

You look fab, Suz! I absolutely the direction your color palette has gone with the new berry shades.  Curious, do you also have the Ecco sneakers?  The sneakers don't work for my feet, but I wonder about the flats. I have also been looking for an option with support for home.

  • replied 3 years ago

Wow- what a great little shoe!  I'm tempted to look into these for myself - was surprised to see that they are a synthetic upper.  They don't look it. I'm not a Rails plaid shirt fan, but those colours are so pretty for you. I can appreciate the softness factor too. And - your smoke was creating a haze over Winnipeg last night too - so, so scary.....

  • replied 3 years ago

btw - where did you order your Fitflops from ?

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Yay! So glad the new house shoes worked out! They look KILLER. And are a sublime match with the cute new NAS shirt! Fun to see you in a slip-on shoe :)

I couldn’t stand wearing slippers all the time at home either. Creating a “house shoe only” capsule was the best style decision I made this year.

You look signature beautiful Suz in your blazer, tee and draped arty scarf. Love it!

As for our uncontrollable fires, smoke, and very bad air quality - rain in two days. I have never wanted it to rain so badly in my life.

Sorry things are tricky at home. Sending healing thoughts and much love.

  • MsMary replied 3 years ago

You look fab, Suz! I bought that same shirt and can't wait for the weather to cooperate so I can wear it! And we are smoky skies twins, too!

  • Suz replied 3 years ago

Still smoky today but it rained so the air smells a bit better at least -- and we can hope it is helping to the south where the fires are.

LisaP -- I order my Fitflops from Fitflop Canada. I buy so many of the darn things -- seriously -- they may not be the most fashionable thing in the world but they save my plantar fasciitis so I wear them to the ground. The sandals work better for me (so far) -- but I'm trying a clog, a rainboot, and a walking sneaker now, too, just to see if they work. I did have one sneaker from them before that was too wide for me, alas, so I'm a bit hesitant.

My Ecco Anine is not synthetic but real suede. At least that's what the Ecco web site claims...

Nemosmom -- I do have the sneakers. Actually, several kinds of Ecco sneakers. It is one brand I can pretty much rely on . But, as with any fashion sneaker, I need an insole -- superfeet, something to add support to the shoe. I can't wear complete flats without the kind of pain that some women report from heels. With an insole, I'm good for all day in the 7s, though.

  • Suz replied 3 years ago

Thank you, Angie -- you didn't get rain yet?? Oh, I'm holding out hope for you soon.

Mary, it's spooky, isn't it? SO weird. Hard to explain it...

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Suz, we had a bit of rain - but didn't do much. A GLIMPSE of the water today :)

  • Cardiff girl replied 3 years ago

Can’t get over all these photos of the smoke,so scary.
Those shoes  are a lovely colour and so complementary to your wardrobe and hair colour.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 3 years ago

You look fantastic, Suz! So glad the house shoes are working, and they are adorable. What a gorgeous color, and perfect with your plaid shirt. Which looks amazing on you! I also have to say, you wear those high-waisted jeans sooo well! I'm hoping the stress eases for you, and that the fires and smoke get under control very soon, for all of us.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

(pssssst, you mean arch - not instep! The instep is on the vamp of the foot ;) )

  • replied 3 years ago

I love the shoes on you, Suz.  They look luxuriously rich and coordinate great with your new Rails shirt.  Well done.

  • Suz replied 3 years ago

Thanks, Angie -- I always get the two mixed up. So yes - although they are connected. Anyway...I'm wearing the shoes and so far they are working pretty well! Yay!

We had skies like yours today again. Slightly better, but not great. At least I felt like I could go out for a walk.

Sterling -- thank you! They also look good with my new RM-thanks-to-Sterling bag. :)

Sharan, thank you! I am really liking my Olivia jeans. I almost donated them last winter because weight gain had made them uncomfortable, but I've lost the weight and now they are very comfortable indeed.

Cardiff Girl, I hope the smoke does not blow your way. You had your fill with the wet spring -- we can only stand so many weather disasters in one place, right?

  • replied 3 years ago

The amazon description says the Eccos are synthetic - and I did think that was odd ;) I had a pair of really nice suede Fit Flop sandals several years ago and quite liked them for exactly the reasons you mention . I got them from the locw rep at that time and was happy to have them . I’ve never looked at them since but those clogs are the cutest things ever !

  • Suz replied 3 years ago

Yep. I know -- weird, right, Lisa? But the Ecco site and the shoe box say leather.

I wear Fitflop sandals as my house shoes and my "suburban walk" sandals all summer and I swear to all the gods they have saved my feet. I wish the shoes were narrower, but I am experimenting again with a few style in a half size down to see if they will work. The clogs are intended as a house shoe (with socks in winter).

I'm trying to get really specific about what I wear indoors and what out, because we have pale maple floors, a mucky suburb, and it just makes sense. BUT, most slippers do not offer enough support for me, or else they are "too darn hot" as Ella Fitzgerald might say -- my feet get very uncomfortable. Hence my search for easy on, easy off house shoes that are also either fun and whimsical or pretty or (dare I hope??) cool -- or at minimum, not schlumpy. .

This could be its own thread, so I might go there in a day or two. :)

  • Jaime replied 3 years ago

I love the plaid Rails shirt on you. You look positively dashing going out and about. And great find with the shoes. I stumbled upon (thrifted) a pair of El Naturalista slides and they are competing with my Birks as my most worn house shoe. In Israel hot desert storms, which turn the air yellow, are almost always followed by rain. I hope Mother Nature cooperates with you with this human made storm.

  • replied 3 years ago

I can’t figure out what to wear indoors on my feet either . Many slippers are too hot , heavy socks are messy and schlumpy looking , neverminf slippery on hardwood floors , but it also seems weird to be sitting on the couch watching tv wearing Birkenstocks or other such shoes . Big first world problems .

  • Chris987 replied 3 years ago

Love your shoes - perfect combination of "works for at home wearing" and a polished style, not to mention how great they look with that plaid shirt. It's so good to have a defined color palette!  I'm also pretty amazed at how good you look with a scarf AND a mask....that look feels overwhelming on me but maybe it works for you because your hair is shorter.

  • Suz replied 3 years ago

Chris, I know -- it's a lot going on, isn't it. I kind of forgot that when I threw on the scarf for warmth on a cool morning! :)  It probably works okay because I have short hair and a long-ish neck and because the colours really harmonized/ blended.

Lisa -- right? It seems silly to worry about it but at the same time, this is our daily lives/ comfort we are talking about and the less we go out, the more important it is to feel good in our at-home wear yet also be practical about it.

  • unfrumped replied 3 years ago

Perfect flats! And a great outfit overall.

I do not know what will evolve for “ dressy- er “ footwear for me. Have such issues with toebox. Many fashion sneakers seem too “ flat” at the tip of the toe. I thought I would always keep some type of ballet flat in the lineup, but now I’m not so sure.

  • CocoLion replied 3 years ago

The Rails shirt is fantastic on you!  And I love the Eccos.  I have never been able to get a flat to stay on my heels.  That is why I just surrender the heel and go with mules.

  • lyn67 replied 3 years ago

Aw, love that rich magenta, & NOT ONLY for indoors shoes! And you styled them beautifully, love the color repetition in the shirt, and your hair looks fabulous, again!  Other outfit os also gorgeous-love your outfits, please post again (window shopping also good:-)).
