WIMW: Relaxed top over full skirt - which jacket?

Trying my best approximation of Angie's fab look.   Wearing nude hose with pride.

Which jacket? Have to leave in a few minutes!

    NUmber 4.
  • Mona replied 11 years ago
#4 for me too. You look adorable in full skirt and doc marcies.
  • hedgiehog replied 11 years ago
Another vote for 4. Love the lines if the outfit! The denim makes it so cute.
ETA: I love the pop of red in the scarf and twirl of the skirt with the boots. :)

Is it too warm to wear your taupe leather jacket?
  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago
Ooh!  Claire has a good idea!  I like all of these views, but think I'm leaning toward the black for proportion, the short denim for cheekiness.

Lots of twirling for you today, just not when crossing the street.

Oops, in my haste to get you out the door, I missed that you were copying Angie's look. In that case, number 4 gets my vote as well! :)
  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 11 years ago
I think 4 replicates the feel of Angie's look, but I like them all! You can't go wrong. The combo is great without the jacket, too. Love those boots with the skirt!
  • rachylou replied 11 years ago
This outfit is so cute! I like the shorter jackets.
  • Aida replied 11 years ago
They all work well, but I am especially liking the two denim jackets. Can't go wrong!
  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago
My favorites are without the jacket (love the dots and stripes -- they don't need a lot of help) and with the jacket I love the long denim one because it adds in another color and another texture. The cropped jackets make the look seem choppy to my eye.
Indeed these are nude hose because I can't tell you're wearing any. I love those boots too!
  • TraceyLiz65 replied 11 years ago
By far my fave is with the longer denim jacket!
  • pil replied 11 years ago
I like 3 and 5. Which jacket did you end up wearing?
  • catgirl replied 11 years ago
    #4!
  • Karie replied 11 years ago
It looks great w/o the denim jacket, but with the jacket, I vote #4. Is that the LLBean striped shirt?
  • Angie replied 11 years ago
    SO FAB!

    SO 2013!

I like #1, #3 and #5 best! Loving the new proportions, Suz :)
  • Debora replied 11 years ago
#4 and 5 are my favorites! You look fab!
  • rae replied 11 years ago
Sassy scarf! I prefer the length of jacket 4, but I think they all work. :D
  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago
This is brilliant Suz! I love it all ways except with the longer denim jacket. Can't help but notice it looks fab with the Docs!

Now I want a swishy black skirt...
  • Thistle replied 11 years ago
Really like this on you!  I prefer it without a jacket if it is warm enough.  Otherwise I like #4 the best.
  • Jaime replied 11 years ago
Oh you are long gone so I don't have to pick, I keep going back and forth - which did you wear? Every possibility is terrific, that striped top is so you (as in chic)! My favorite is #1 actually!
  • Suz replied 11 years ago
Thank you all! I ended up compromising, in a way.

I had two events to attend back to back, and I wasn't sure what the temperatures would be like.

The first was a really neat opportunity, a sort of mini-course. I went to the university art gallery, where the education director there and a local author whose work I admire led a group of us on a gallery tour, discussing several of the works of art on display. Then we each had some time to spend with one or more of the artworks in order to brainstorm towards a piece of writing in response to the art. Three weeks from now we'll go back and read our piece to the other participants. In the meantime, the author will read drafts and give us feedback.

After that I went to a farewell party for a former colleague who is moving to Montreal. This was held in a local pub. I walked from one venue to the other -- about a half hour walk.

So, at the gallery, I actually wore #1/2. No need for an extra jacket there.

At the pub, I wore #4.

And outside, I wore my wool pea coat over top of the whole thing! Nude hose or not, it was way too cold to go out there without a wool coat today! Actually, the hose kept me surprisingly warm. Day Vies, these ones are actually lighter than my skin and it was bugging me. I'm pretty pale, but I often have this problem. I'm paler than the next shade up, but not pale enough for these. Oh well. Live and learn.

Karie, this is indeed the LLBean top - my wardrobe staple. I wear this at least once a week. I really should invest in one of the other colours.

Thanks all for your kind comments.

I'm over here from AG's post, so I don't know what you went with, but my first impression was the black jacket in #3 and then the shorter denim jacket, because the longer one seemed like too much material, although I love a black and denim combo together any time.  Truly any of them would work.  (Love the Doc Marcies!)

Now, how did you leave the house?

P.S.  Are those nude nylons/hose I see on those legs?
  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago
Fab outfit, Suz! Lovely skirt and stripes. I didn't manage to keep up with posts yesterday, it seems - I never saw yours. You made a good choice, and the lighter tone of the hose works just fine to my eye. A lot better than too dark.
  • Deborah replied 11 years ago
Suz, the outfit looks great.  My preference is for the black jacket but I think that is because I tend to bat for team dressy.  I have a question for you:)  How did the outfit feel?  I really like the look but I know that I would 'feel' not put together enough and sloppy in that silhouette.  Did you feel like 'yourself'?  How did it feel by the end of the day?

BTW this is no reflection on how it  looks, its a very put together, fab look, I am just curious.
  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago
Very fresh for Spring yet covered for wintery temps!  I prefer the black and longer denim jackets.
  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago
Nr 3 all the way, than the denim jacket, too.  Suz, love your flippy skirt, with breton stripes, and red scarf! Love the wedge booties, too-take away  some of the girliness, and give an edge!
  • Vivi replied 11 years ago
I love it with the black jacket, followed by the cropped denim. Nice pairing!
  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago
Late to the game. I really like all of the different incarnations and the subtle difference in vibes each carries. #3 is my fave but if I saw you walking down the street in any of them I'd think there is one stylish lady!
  • Inge replied 11 years ago
I am all over this look and you wear it extremely well, Suz! A little late to chime in, but I preferred the proportions in 1, 3 and 5 (also love the pattern mixing with the red scarf in 1).

Yay for nude hose to keep us warm, and your final outfi(s) sound absolutely wonderful. I bet the peacoat looks stunning with this look!
  • Suz replied 11 years ago
Thanks, ladies! The "black" jacket is actually navy, by the way...ink blue, I guess. Don't you wish it were easier to photograph dark colours? Sheesh!!

Deborah, very interesting question. I felt absolutely myself in this silhouette, no problem with that at all. My one reservation concerned the Doc Marcies. I wasn't 100% sure about how I felt in those booties. And I wish in a way I had worn my knee-high boots instead. But mine are black, not white, like Angie's and they felt a bit heavy for the look I wanted. So I chose the Marcies instead. The result was a bit of discomfort. I'm self-conscious about my legs in these, and also the tongues of them wander -- I cannot do them up tight enough to stay put. I guess the shaft is a bit wide for me or something.

Anyway - while I felt a smidge of annoyance about the booties, I didn't feel in the least sloppy in the overall silhouette. In fact, your question truly interests me because it would not even occur to me that I could feel sloppy in an outfit like this. For me, the issue (if any) would have been quite the reverse, in that I was by far the dressiest person at both events I attended. Mostly the skirt, but also the silk scarf, and the high wedge of the booties, and even the jacket...any jacket seems to read as dressy around here, even if it is denim.  I did get some "aren't you dolled up" looks, in fact. But only one actual remark, and it was favourable.

Late to the party as well. I also like the longer denim jacket in #4. I think something like the black jacket would appeal to me more if it were in another color. It's like the jacket and skirt almost match, but not quite, so it's better to contrast instead. (Unless the colors on my monitor are off...)

Love the boots with the outfit. And the polka dot scarf is sassy.

    Late thought-
I appreciate this skirt outfit, 'cause it is much easier to grab a F.F.B.O. on a daily basis.
Angie's ideas are inspiring me to be more adventurous too!
    YL'dF!!
  • deb replied 11 years ago
    I vote # 4.
  • Echo replied 11 years ago
LOVE this outfit with or without the jacket, but I prefer the shorter jackets with it as opposed to the longer look in #4.
  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago
Another vote for 4! You look fab.
