WIMW: White denim & pattern mix

Is this a weird combination? Or is it okay?

I have yet to cut the tags on this jacket. It's more yellow in tone than I usually go, yet somehow I don't think it looks awful. Am I deluding myself? I would really prefer to have one of Ceit's kimonos -- but those are sold out again. And I have so much blue in my wardrobe that it seemed it might make sense to try something a little different.

Angie, thank you for encouraging me to keep the top. (The BR textured MadMen shell from the store.) It's easy to wear and I am enjoying it. 100% cotton, too.

I think all the pieces work really well together. That jacket is to die for.

Keep looking, they have been going in and out of stock daily it seems!

I like the pattern mix, and that shell is a great find!

I bet that jacket looks awesome with your cobalt tube skirt!

You look beautiful in this jacket, Suz. (SO glad you kept the Mad Men top!).

If I may be bold and bossy........did you try this floral blazer? Rute tried it on recently:

The jacket is fantastic on you!  Love the tailored shape, it dresses up a casual summer outfit.  And I don't even notice any yellow.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Angie, I love your bold and bossy! I listen, too!  :-)

LOVE the blue jacket -- it is just the same as this one in cut. I tried it on. I didn't buy it because at the time I was looking for something that would (maybe) work with the Nicole Miller dress as a topper and I wasn't sure about the blues (since I had not yet seen the dress). Do you think it would be better than the cream one? I can easily exchange.

    Love those kimonos, too. Hmmmm.....

    (You sweet thing)

It's a distinct possibility :) . I vote go back and try all these toppers. You have some time now that the Event Outfit is sorted.

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

I think the jacket looks great! I don't notice any yellow either. Great summer top too.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Okay. Will do! I think the pattern on the yellow one is maybe too small and busy for me.

The great thing? Zara delivers. Fast.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

They do! And Zara's online service has been impeccable. I'm excited :)

Okay! That's me! I'm giving my arms a forum rest for the day.

  • celia replied 10 years ago

Personally I like this jacket but can also see you wearing the blue one.

Suz:  I like the chinoiserie print very much.  I like the shape very much, too.  I somehow think, however, that I would have troubling styling is, although I can't quite put my finger on why.  You seem a little unsure, yourself, I notice.  I like Angie's idea of retrying all the toppers and then considering your choice.

I like this jacket on you Suz, I vote keep.

Great print, and the colors look lovely on you. However, to my eye the warmer colors of the jacket kind of clash with the cool black/white/blue of the outfit. Can you try this jacket with something warmer like ... taupe? Maybe your mushroom skirt? Or denim? You have set the bar very high, and it's possible this combo just doesn't live up to your usual style.

  • tarzy replied 10 years ago

Hmmm... I really like the cut of that jacket, but there's something about the pattern that doesn't quite look like "you." Can't put my finger on it, though. I think Angie has given you great advice!

Suz, just chiming in to say that I have the blue Zara floral blazer Angie posted above and it is gorgeous. I like the one you are wearing too.

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

Suz, I think you look great in the outfit you've posted. And I also love the jacket and kimonos Angie linked to. I may order that jacket myself. YIKES. What size are you wearing might I ask?

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

this so doesn't read yellow and love the pattern mixing.  That floral seems like it would be very versatile.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

I am not sure which kimono option I like best, but the shell, white jeans and blue bag look fantastic on you!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

What Tarzy said. I love that jacket but there is something about it that doesn't seem creative/arty enough for you.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

    Interesting, Joy.

I think it is the pattern. It's off scale for me, too delicate -- even though I am not a large person. And the detail is too rounded without enough angles.

That probably sounds bizarre. I am guessing this, based on my reading of Kibbe. I could be wrong here.

But the cut of the jacket does work, to my eye. So I'm going to try the blue one instead; its pattern is larger.

What I think is interesting is that my style has (finally) developed enough that we are able to make fine distinctions like this. I think a year ago, we'd all have said, yeah- it fits, it's current, it's great! And left it at that.

It reminds me a bit of the refining process that Claire has been going through. We all loved her in her bright colours last year. But this year, she's narrowed her focus on a preferred neutral palette and we are all pretty much agreed that it is a refinement of her personal style and an improvement. However good she looked in those brights (and I still maintain she did look good) they weren't "her" in some way. And she looks and feels even better in her neutrals.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

I haven't been around here long enough to know all about style distinctions, so...it fits, it's current, it's great! But then again, I really like Angie's picks - they're current, they're great! I hope they fit!

But seriously folks, I do prefer the colors and print of the darker floral that Angie posted, and I like both kimono jackets - especially the lighter one.

  • replied 10 years ago

Ah, I so get you! Yes, this totally works in theory. It's current, it fits, it flatters, it works! Yay. I can actually really see that colorway on Angie.

But, now we want more from our clothes, don't we? To get all Kibbe with you, at first glance, that modern Asian floral might look like just another cute cropped floral jacket, sweet almost, and not the really fashion-forward piece it is until closer inspection. I do like the cut (and I like the blue one even better for you), but I wonder how you would do with the drama of an actual kimono like Angie linked to? Would there be too much fabric? Something like this would be great for public speaking or where people would see you from a distance.

I'm glad to see your getting good use out of the Mad Men top! Good for you for wearing it out and about and not saving it. Thanks for the shout out too, BTW. If I find something in the perfect blue, I promise I'm buying it.
