WIW: A whole lotta jeans

Since I wear a lot of jeans and have been taking photos most days for the last few weeks, I thought you might enjoy this sampling of premium and non-premium denim for comparison.

1. Premium CoH Racer Patina (bought on sale)  and J. Crew sweater.

2. Non-P Banana Republic cream jeans (sale)  and LL Bean flannel shirt.

3. Same BR cream jeans and INC tunic.

4. Premium Rag&Bone Dre slim BF jeans (sale price) and BR sweatshirt.

5. Non-P GAP Original Fit selvedge jeans rescued from my daughter's donate bag. These are soft 100% cotton and I love them. With Zara shirt.

6. Non-P Banana Republic Heritage slouchy skinnies from 2010 and still going strong. Love these jeans. .(Bought on super sale in NYC!)

7. Non-P BR cream jeans, Zara shirt, J. Crew cropped sweater.

8. Premium CoH Racer jeans in sand or something like that (ebay purchase), with LLBean shirt and J. Crew sweater.

9. BR slouchy skinnies With BR shirt and J. Crew Merino V neck.

10. GAP decidedly Non-P skinnies (on super duper sale).

11. Kut from the Kloth non-P white skinnies with LLBean top and J. crew sweater.

Sheesh, look at that. Am I a prepster or what?

This isn't even the full collection. I seem to have collected a lot of jeans, but since I wear them almost every day spring/ fall/ winter, my CPW for each pair is very low, especially when averaged.

I go through cycles of wearing certain ones more than others. Right now the BR cream jeans and my new grey jeans are getting a lot of love. Have worn the grey ones four days straight since I bought them!

My least worn pairs are my GAP Long and Lean (non-P and low price), and a pair of DL 1961 dark wash skinnies bought on super sale and best worn tucked into boots for a sort of "breeches" look.

But my all-time faves are the CoH Racers in patina, my Rag and Bone Dres, and my Kut white jeans. With the distressed BR slouchy skinnies coming close.

Love this collection! My Rag & Bone jeans are my faves too. Gap leans used to be my go-to but now not so much. Do you still have the True Religion Camerons? I wore those yesterday. The COHs are fantastic on you!

Wooohooo. LOVE this, Suz. Thanks for posting and linking to this morning's post. What a brilliant selection of premium and non-premium denim. You lucky fish.

You do wear jeans frequently. That's GREAT. It works for your lifestyle, climate, figure and style persona. There is everything RIGHT about Prepster. Why not? I vote brilliant all round.

You have gotten SO MUCH WEAR out of that burgundy plaid scarf and burgundy cardi. WOW.

I love all the outfits, Suz. I'm going with #4, #7 and #11 as my faves though. Killer of sure.

I love how "jeans and a top" is never just jeans a top with you. Every outfit is just perfect!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thanks, Carter. I fear it is just "jeans and top" but it's what works for my work-at-home life. I do clean up and put on jackets when I go out. :)

Angie, thank you. I seem to have worn the red cardigan a bit more than I actually have -- I have counted 15 wears since purchase in the fall. The red scarf is a cheapie bought several years ago. I seldom wore it in the past but with the plaid trend this year it has come to the fore.

Una, I do have the TR Camerons and adore them. I wear them less in winter because mine are all cotton and feel a bit "crisp" somehow -- i.e. less cozy than some of my others.  Also, they are harder for me to tuck into my boots. For me they are a spring/ fall favourite.

The Scotch Plaid shirt looks great on you!

  • texstyle replied 9 years ago

A lady after my own jeans-loving heart! You look fab in all of these and I think #3, #4 and #11 are my personal favorites.

I love it when we get treated to a Suz fashion show! What a wonderful collection of jeans you have. I'm really liking the cream ones and the grey ones. I'm really loving all the plaid and wonderful knitwear too.

BTW I have some cream denim that's been sitting in my stash for when I eventually tackle the job of actually trying to make some jeans :)

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

Very interesting, very interesting. I, of course, like the dark dark jeans in #5. Also, I must digress and express my appreciation of your sweaters and how they fit/hang. My faves are the sweaters in #7 and 11, but I'm most impressed with the fit of #8. I'd just look like a sausage in #8.

What a great collection you have!  And to have photographed it all too!  This would serve as a good tool for outfit planning - just check your jeans file and go.  I am also smiling at your prepster heart - you rock a plaid shirt and sweater, that's for sure.

I find I wear jeans far less in winter than I do in spring and fall. In fact, I bet I haven't had a pair on in a good week or so.  All in what you have that works and feels good I guess :)

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

I agree about the.Camerons, and they are a title stiffer which makes them feel colder somehow. Mine don't tuck in although they go over my Harley Davidson boots. But our weather has been oddly warm! I asked because the Dres look similar and I was wondering if they were a replacement.

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

You are one elegant prepster! I love all of these. Why not wear jeans when you look so fantastic in them?! The burgundy with the tan boots and white jeans is an amazing outfit. I think that's my fave of the lot if I was forced to pick a fave but every one of these is awesome.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

What a fantastic collection of jeans Suz! And you wear all of them so well. Thanks for sharing.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Loving all the jeans!!! Thanks for the compilation! Yes, aren't you quite the prepster - but it fits and looks SO good!!! I'm glad your grey jeans are working out well for you. Plaid certainly is the theme of the day, isn't it :)

  • Eliza replied 9 years ago

Love these looks on you and they are a mini encyclopedia of how to keep jeans current and practical. You wear them do well. Will bookmark for inspiration!

I have a couple of the same jcrew cardigans as I liked their structure, warmth and shape, as well as the contrasting color underneath. I am finding that they pill a bit under the arms, which is disappointing, I hope yours is holding up better. I love it with the cream pants and plaid.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

All of these outfits and all the jeans look great. The main thing with jeans for me is that they keep their shape and wash well, which apparently they all do!

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

I am amazed these all oil different even thigh all jeans! Lots of different light and dark contrasts. The plai shirts have a great relaxed vibe, but I still like the asymmetrical hem sweater, too.

  • Marley replied 9 years ago

Great pics of some great jeans outfits!  Which one is the gray pair?  I can't tell for sure from the pics (none of them look gray on my monitor!)
    My favorites are 1, 3, 4, 7, and 11.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

Well, they all look fantastic on you Suz!  It comes down to: which are most comfortable, and which do you feel most fab in.  Just curious. (When you get both comfort and high style happiness, that's fashion nirvana!)

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Suz, your jeans collection is quite impressive - well done. I second Angie that this plaid scarf is a real workhorse for you and looks great. I see you got your LLBean plaid shirt so we are twins once more :-)
All outfits are great but I am partial to #1 (double twin!), 2 (triple twin!), 3,4, 7 and 11.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

You wear your jeans--and plaid--wonderfully well, Suz! Great collection, and your outfits are fab.

  • replied 9 years ago

This is really helpful.  I will definitely try some of your favorites.

By the way, that cashmere sweater looks way better on you than the model.  That simple half-tuck is perfection on you.

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

WOW. What an impressive jeans collection! It's so hard to pic a fav (or two or three) because I love them all. The ones that you picked as your all-time favorites, what is it about them that made them your top picks over the others?

  • Rubygirl replied 9 years ago

You wear jeans and plaids very well. Love the plaid scarf. The scarf compliments you quite well. It brings your face to life!
The burgundy card has the same affect as the scarf!
You are an inspiration. I can not do plaids. I have looked and looked for a plaid shirt and each time left it at the store.

  • kkards replied 9 years ago

i envy you -wish i could wear jeans everyday! anyway, YLF in all of them. love how you have mixed high and low denim, plaid and sweaters of multiple silhouettes to create an array of interesting outfits!

  • viva replied 9 years ago

Love the denim parade -- and that Zara plaid shirt is fabulous.

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

A well done denim wardrobe, Suz!  You have beautiful variety and yet keep a distinctive fit in your skinnies -- slim, but with a bit of slouch and scrunch running down the leg.  It's a modern, very flattering approach to the skinny jean, and one you must have worked hard to achieve, since it's only now showing up in catalogs and magazines.

Have you ever tried a trouser or wide leg fit?  Do you still have a pair of bootcuts or flares in your closet?

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Beth Ann, thank you. I think my favourite fit of all time is a "slouchy skinny" and I often size up one size in skinnies to get that fit. I also like slim BFs which give a similar type of fit although a bit looser.

I was lucky enough to discover the slouchy skinnies before they became popular. Since was so "out of it" fashion wise at the time, I didn't even know that my skinnies were too baggy, LOL. They seemed skinny to me because they were skinny in the calf! Anyway, that pair of jeans got me hooked on this type of fit, and I have found it works well for my climate and body type overall. Angie's example also helped confirm me in the choice, since she often wears that fit herself.

Of course I still have a few pairs of legging type skinnies (not shown here). I also have flares but seldom get to wear those in winter. No trouser jeans. I used to have a pair but they totally overwhelm me. I like wide leg trousers in a fluid fabric, vs. denim.

Karie, what makes my faves my absolute faves is a combination of fit, flattery, and the comfort of the fabrication. The wash/ fading also just works, if you know what I mean.

Denise, my faves are also my most comfortable, although to be truthful, all of these are super comfortable. I don't have a very high tolerance level for uncomfortable jeans and tend to purge them fast. I do have one pair of legging jeans (the aforementioned DL1961s) that are not that comfy for me now. Still deciding on those.

Marley, thanks - the grey jeans are in #10. Photo looks a bit blue.

Eliza, sorry to hear your cardigan has pilled! I don't think mine has, but I do have a lambswool J. Crew cardigan that is pilling.

Thanks, viva, kkards, ruby, sterling, Sharan, Shevia, UF, Sveta, Jackie, Kelly, Shannon, texstyle, rachy, Lisa, Alasse!

You have styled so many cute outfits that look special without trying to hard. They're all something I'd want to wear daily and you've inspired me to step it up with my jeans today.  I have the same cashmere gray flowered/leopard sweater and I'm going to do something fun with it....maybe white jeans, white shirt underneath and black boots?  Way out of my comfort zone to do the white jeans in winter, thanks for the inspiration!

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

What an awesome collection Suz!  Thanks for pulling that together.

  • Marley replied 9 years ago

Most of these are non-premium, right?  (which is kind of cool!)
