WIW: Angie inspired BF

So, after all my angst about my avant-garde failures (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....think-help) and the discoveries I made through that process, I pulled out the BFs and went out for a drink with a friend.

Observations: Immediately felt like "me" again. What are the elements? The slouchy jeans are just plain comfortable. I like comfort! The crisp shirt with popped collar - angles, fit. I need angles and structure, not loopy, romantic drape.

I don't have Angie's super cool belt and shoes so I wore my Reports and a pink belt for a touch of femininity.

Ahhhhhhh....gorgeous Suz! I really think crispness and structure are a HUGE part of your style and what makes an outfit feel like "you". What brand of shirt is that Suz? I really like the fit and shape.

This is simple and fabulous - now I need to go fix the cuffs on my BF jeans to look like yours!

what an incredible look on you Suz!! PLONK.

  • Lantana replied 11 years ago

Suz, you look gorgeous in this gear but...
please don't abandon exploring the "other" you.

  • replied 11 years ago

Looks great, Suz! I think you have room for both of these styles in your persona.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Shannon, the shirt is by Jackpot. I got it on sale last summer at a local boutique.

You see, I do occasionally make a GOOD sale purchase, LOL!!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    Yes, yes you do!

  • Gaylene replied 11 years ago

This outfit is totally a "Suz" outfit. As everyone on the forum probably knows by now, I am not the biggest fan of the BF jeans, but, when I see how you wear them, I'm becoming a convert. Those boyfriends look amazing with the shirt and belt!

Just a thought, Suz-- maybe, if you start listening to your instincts, you'll find that your style evolution will just happen without you having to force it. This outfit makes it quite clear that you have a good idea of what you like and what looks good on you. Experiment with other shapes and cuts (otherwise you'd have never tried the BFs, right!), but don't forget to bring that confidence with which you pulled together this outfit with you when you are trying something new. Pay closer attention to your own fashion sense; if this outfit is any indication, your instincts are in fine form.

SO so great, Suz. You look totally comfortable and at ease in this look. The sure sign of a winner. :)

    Perfection!

  • RunnerChick replied 11 years ago

How cute are you?! This is such a terrific look. Like Gaylene, I'm not a fan of the BF jeans, and have resisted the trend for myself, but YLF posts sure are making rethink that stand from time to time. This post is inspiring - denim and white is one of my favorite combos, and it's good to see you rock it!

BTW, I did not have a chance to comment on your posts about avant-garde style (with very little experience in the style department and a closet that consists mostly -- only? -- of classics, I didn't feel very qualified). But I did want to say that you looked terrific in the both the outfits you posted yesterday. The black dress was my favorite, but I liked the teal tunic as well.

As Angie would say, " Plunk". I remember when you wanted to torque up your "cool" artist factor: I would say that you have definitely arrived.

  • Astrid replied 11 years ago

Suz, this is perfect! And you look really comfortable too. I second Gaylene, maybe you think too much? Although I understand, I don't trust my instincts enough either.

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

Suz, this is so spot on YOU and it looks Amazing. You could wear a version of this every day and look perfect. Do you have a lot of button downs? They love you as much as your BF does.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thank you, everybody! Nice to be me again!

Texstyle, I do have several button down shirts. And do wear them quite a lot. And I agree they are a good wardrobe staple for me. In fact, I "stocked up" on a couple for summer wear this year.

But I've made some discoveries about those, as well.

They can easily look altogether "too" classic and/or sporty/preppy on me for my style direction.

The reason this one works? It is fitted, it is tucked, and it is paired with the more trendy BFs.

If I wear a regular untucked button down with my shorts or a denim skirt I end up looking like a boring mom. And feeling frumpy.

Sleeved button downs are also too hot for my regular summer wear. Even yesterday I ended up feeling uncomfortably warm in this outfit. So...the search for crisp, structured, yet NON preppy tops for summer continues!

    KILLER

This looks like "Suz". Loving the belt and booties!

(I am humbled to have inspired your outfit).

    Does Angie say: "Plunk"?

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

This is on of the most fabulous your outfits in a while Suz! Esp love the striking red(pink?)belt and lips.YLF!!!

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

Oh yes, this LOOKS like you :-)

It's okay to have alter egos (like Vix's three personas) - so maybe there will be the occasional day where unstructured drapey is your mood. That's where we can keep things fresh and not feel pigeon-holed.

I like your comments: "The reason this one works? It is fitted, it is tucked, and it is paired with the more trendy BFs. If I wear a regular untucked button down with my shorts or a denim skirt I end up looking like a boring mom. And feeling frumpy. "

I've felt like I needed a tutorial on how to wear button downs, so I grow to love them like others do. Maybe your ideas are a key . . . ?

This is a great look, Suz, in no small part because you look like you feel GREAT in it! I hadn't given much thought to BF jeans, nor noticed the trend (my summer has mostly involved wearing scrubs and catching babies, what can I say?). I have seen some photos here on YLF lately, though, that makes me nostalgic for the look, which I wore in the mid-to-late 90s as a college student. Back then, they were actually my boyfriend's jeans...lol

I've been thinking about your style exploration, and feel grateful to you for sharing your process. I liked the dresses you posted the other day, but I think it's so important that you feel like yourself, no matter what you're wearing. You didn't seem to feel like *you* in those outfits, which I think says a lot. In this outfit, you're incorporating on-trend with classic Suz touches, which makes for the perfect combination. Kudos!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

This is so great! I am glad you have a better handle on this whole situation now. YAY!

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Big hugs to you, Suz! love your interpretation of Angie's outfit. I read your other post about the two dresses yesterday but honestly I had no feedback on that. I hope you got a lot of good advise from more experienced YLFers and are able to decide which dress to keep. This is my last post on YLF for next week. I just could not resist after seeing your outfit. I am leaving early morning tomorrow for England. I will be on the forum on and off.

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Smashing! You are just too fab for words!

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

This is exactly the type of outfit I think of when I think Suz...it is you. But there is more than one side to you....so we just have to find the right balance for a new uniform in addition, not substitution of the old, huh?

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thanks so much, everyone. This has been a HUGE and fantastic learning experience for me. I think I've turned a corner and had a major style epiphany. More posts to come!

By the way, do you know how helpful all of you are? This place is amazing!!

  • RunningSue replied 11 years ago

Suz, you look just fantastic! And so happy. Maybe I should look at some BFs.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Great take on Angie's BF look! I like the bright belt :D

(I also want to see the hems rolled up higher with these boots, but that's probably just me.)

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

    Cool

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Yes, this is definitively your style. Your signature look: a crisp button down shirt. Suits you marvellously.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

So cool and it does feel like you. It is amazing like BF jeans can look so flattering in a right outfit even being slouchy and baggy. Mystery of the fashion!
I now wear my BF almost weekly and this comfort factor cannot be beat!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

How did I miss this? You look amazing Suz. Love those booties. This looks like "you". It's modern, a bit of trend, crisp clean lines love it.

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

You look terrific and happy and YOU! I'm pretty excited to wear this formula with a jacket all fall...
