WIW: At Home, Wearing Trousers

My first day home, and it is cold! Or I am cold. Or I HAVE a cold. Or all of the above. I'm not entirely sure.

At any rate, I'm sleep deprived, and craving cozy.

So I put on my new thrifted Theory charcoal wool trousers, the classic wide leg ones. Oh, they are SOOOOOOO comfy! I adore these pants.

I added my charcoal wool turtleneck for a column of colour. (Or column of calm neutral, if you prefer!)

Sick to death of accessorizing with scarves for 3.5 weeks, I uncharacteristically added a necklace, plus my silver belt and a cuff. And my specs, because I can't even bear to put my lenses in today.

Nothing spectacular here. Just an ordinary, classic look. That's classic classic. Not even modern classic.

But on the evidence of these trousers, I would argue that quality = luxury. I feel positively cosseted in this lovely soft wool with its hint of stretch.

Lovely Suz, and I am definitely on the look-out for some trousers like yours that aren't scratchy or too dressy. FAB.

  • Kristin SF replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous - I love the entire look.

Where are you finding such beautiful trousers? I guess I need to check out thrift shops, but somehow don't think I'll find those at the local Goodwill..... ;-)

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

How comfy and cozy, Suz! So glad you had a safe and enjoyable trip. You do black well.

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

I love your nice classy black outfit. The silver belt is so nice with it, and you look nice with a necklace. You're a snazzy lounger!

  • HeleenH replied 11 years ago

You look great even though you are not feeling great. A great alternative to a pyjama day.

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Wow, great 'cozy' look! Far cry from an oversized cardi over yoga pants or leggings like many lounge in.
You have a sort of air about you in this that I can't define but it's fab! Like a professor on their day off maybe, or a writer (duh!) about to get down to some serious work in front of a fire.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Heheh, Mo, maybe I can channel some of that vibe and actually get down to work, eh? But I would WAY rather read YLF!!!

  • Kristin SF replied 11 years ago

How interesting! Suz, I didn't know you are a writer, then I followed your website link. My sister and I are both adopted - myself from Korea. I love reading adoption stories, will have to check out your book! :-)

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

So flattering Suz! I like your description of the luxurious pants. You are so right that quality feels different. And I LOVE!!! the way you highlight the look with a light belt (is it silver?).

Are you an arm candy girl? Just an idea -- I could also see this look working with stacks (or just a few) bracelets. But sans necklace.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Kristin - that is so interesting! I have just returned from China - our daughter's first trip back. It was an amazing trip.

Denise, the belt is silver. I do have some stacked bracelets I could use, too. But on typing days I tend to leave those off. I'm liking the arm candy look more and more, though...sort of surprises me because I used to sniff at it. Funny how our eyes adjust!

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Calm & gorgeous! Hope you aren't getting sick:)

Suz, just signing in for a second to tell you how sleek and rich this look is! How wonderful that you can be warm without lots of bulky or constricting layers. I completely agree that quality (and good design) = luxury. Mo is right, this is a far cry from what most of us lounge in. I hope you start feeling warm and cozy very soon. You need a day or two to relax and catch up on your sleep!

Even though this outfit is on the classic/classic side, it would be a great base to add onto if you were leaving the house. Fit is everything and you have great fit here. I love the glasses to bring some of the dark shade up near your eyes as well. Charcoal is a lovely soft neutral on you. The drape of those pants is exquisite, and I can only imagine the soft wool of your turtleneck. It seems to be beautifully cut. You look studious and important in this outfit!

Funny your comment about the necklace and arm candy. I've been wearing necklaces because it's just at that temperature outside where it's cool enough to stand wearing one, and not too cold to crave a scarf yet. And I've even been contemplating gunmetal nail polish, a ring and a wrist full of bracelets--just for holiday parties probably, even though I thought that look was not *me*. :) It's interesting how we warm up to different looks.

    Eeee I like it!
The classics are the classics for a reason and you don't need to be jumping thru hoops everytime, to make a good outfit happen.
I think your beautiful face and edgy haircut are the style statement right here ... And excuse me, can we please talk about those glasses for a minute?
Awesome and perfectly done, IMHO. Not over or understyled, just right!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    1) Lady, you lounge in serious style! 2) Holy cow you thrifted those amazing trousers?? 3) Classic loves you, Suz. You look incredible in this! 4) I adore the thin silver belt, I think that _does_ give a very modern touch. As does the fact that this is all charcoal and not black, IMO. 5) The dark glasses are an amazing accessory here. No need for anything else, really.

    :)

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Aida, not only did I thrift them, but they were FREE!!!

(Well..."free" because I had made that $22 in consignment, anyway. I also walked away with a pile of money in addition to the trousers that day....not bad for a day of shopping.)

Better yet, they were PPL for my super comfy Siebel booties as is!! Someone had hemmed them to exactly my length.

Thank you all for your sweet words. It's good to be back!

  • pil replied 11 years ago

Suz, what a great look. It sounds like you'll get lots of wear out of these scrumptious pieces. Free and PPL, how could it get any better?

Wasn't this your trip to Vancouver? I have a friend there, what a great place.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Is it wrong to say I have a crush on you in this look? I couldn't love this more.

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Love the simple accessories - you look classic and chic.

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

Wear these often! Just so perfect Suz. You look beautiful!

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

Suz, you look wonderful. I keep thinking about your feelings about a high-quality item. It's been on my mind a lot recently. There's something in that, perhaps unseeable to others' eyes, but it's so empowering and comforting to wear something that's well constructed and made of luxe materials. And then they tend to have that very subtly superior design at play, too. I hope to slowly build a wardrobe with a majority of really fine pieces like that. I love what you've put together, in any case. Wool? We could have worn that during the nor'easter, but today it got back to being mild. A short-term reprieve! :)

  • replied 11 years ago

Love this look and I am so happy those trousers found you. This is a long-term goal for me, to build up a wardrobe of quality items that make me feel like a million dollars.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Simple and strong. Nothing is wrong with classics but I will argue that it is still a dose of modern here, Suz!
Looks like these trousers are real winners.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Suz I beg to differ I think the belt gives this a 'modern' touch, hence in my books this is modern classic. Also the necklace too.

    Stunning look!

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Well, if you have a cold, it doesn't look like so at all! This outfit is lovely, especially with the type of weather we have been having. If it can make you feel any better, they are predicting +16 (and rain) in the beginning of the week.

I'm cold too, and I stayed here!
These pants DO look comfy, the perfect thing one wants to wear now. And it's nice to see you in a turtle neck! It's a new silhouette and it suits you well, especially with the necklace.

Also, your white belt is perfect to break the monochrome feel of the outfit, although I personally love monochrome.

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

You look great! Very chic and pulled together--that is the dressiest loungewear I've seen! I think the black on black makes it look very modern. Hope you feel better soon!

  • Anne Boleyn replied 11 years ago

Cozy and classy - with a little hint of Star Trek (to me anyway) with the silver shining on the black. I really like it. And I know what you mean about really nice fabrics feelings luxury...

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Take off the necklace and add non-black shoes and this becomes a KILLER *modern* classic look! I'm excited, Suz!

I'm also thrilled that you want to join me on Team Trousers. It's a very small and lonely team.

LOVE that you wore this at home. You are too fab for words :)

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

What colour shoes, Angie, do you think? I am all ears!!

The necklace was an anomaly for me; I don't usually do necklaces. I just felt like it needed something.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Your specs, hair and lips are MORE than enough :)

With respect to footwear, from a colour, to a neutral, colour block or animal print. You have them in your closet!

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

    So classy.

  • N-Marie replied 11 years ago

SO chic! Love the long necklace!

  • Freckles replied 11 years ago

    Stunning.

Love those trousers, these are my winter jeans.

I have been shopping and shopping and shopping but haven't found any yet and the ones that should go in the donate bag but didn't (putting the donate bag out for tomorrow) are downright dowdy.

  • JR replied 11 years ago

So funny. I just saw this, but it is pretty much what I was planning on wearing tomorrow. Sometimes it's nice to revert to something calm and simple.
