WIW: Casual Summer Shorts combos

Like Denise, I wasn't going to post these everyday casual outfits, but in honour of Angie's blog post, here they are. You'll see that my personal variation is the button down. I need the higher neckline.

Some you've seen before in other posts.

White shorts: Mexx, bought last year.
Short seersucker shorts (worn only at home): Banana Republic
Denim cutoffs: Gap, bought 3 years ago.
Black and white microcheck shorts: Vans, bought last year

Striped linen buttondown: J. Crew
Chinoiserie pattern Tee: J. Crew
White button down: Jackpot, from 2 years ago
Silk sleeveless button down: Banana Republic
Ink blue cotton top: Mexx, bought last year (looking at it I see it is too short for shorts...oh well....it is also pretty much done and will be donated at end of season.)
Pale blue cotton/linen button down: Banana Republic, bought 3 years ago.

Thanks for looking -- this is what I look like on my work at home days all summer.

Glad you posted these casual outfits. I think it's important because this is the stuff we wear daily and sometimes you need something that looks good and is easy to copy.

It's no secret that my favorite color combination is blue and white and I love #1. I actually love them all because although they are variations on a theme I get to see how different toppers work with shorts. It's like a preview of will this silhouette work on me. Thank you!

Wow, you look fab at home! These are all great looks, very pulled-together yet casual. My fave is #2--love it.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Imo dressing well EVERY day is the hard part so thanks for posting these - YLF.

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

You are rocking this formula. Pretty polished for working at home (I don't think my DH puts on real pants until we come home at night when he's working from home :))

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Great looks. I am particularly fond of what a white button down can do for a pair of shorts- they look so put together, yet comfortable.

I am also a member of the longer shorts outside the house club, though I have to say one of my favorite looks is the button down with the BR seersucker ones. Beautiful.

Waving to shorts and white button down sista!  Thanks for posting Suz.

The important thing is that when working from home, we feel some self-respect and aren't ashamed to answer the door.  Not only do your outfits accomplish that, but you also look crisp and fresh.  I don't know how you manage to do it in an un-airconditioned house!

I think you look great! Thanks for posting these. You've given me some inspiration for shorts outfits. My favourite is #2; I like the print on the top. :-)

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Great looks Suz.    I am glad you posted.  At homes days can be the hardest.  These looks are very Suz and verys stylish and you have a suprise visitor, you are dressed and ready for anything :)

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

So fab. I love these kind of casual outfits. They are so right up my alley. I love them all but that chinoiserie top is especially gorgeous!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

Gosh, after seeing how great you look in all these I feel inspired to dig out some shorts and try to style them. I don't think I've ever managed to look so put-together in shorts!

I really like the way you (and Denise) have worn long-sleeve button up shirts with your shorts. For some reason I've never done that, but it looks great, and still fresh and cool with the sleeves rolled up.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Thank you! Parsley, you would rock a shorts look! I have seen you in your biking shorts, so I know whereof I speak!

Kelly, Hedgie, I agree -- that top is stellar. I adore it. It was a Gaylene recommended purchase and one of my absolute favourites this season. Better yet, I got it on sale! Still pricey for a tee, but worth every penny to me. I guard it carefully.

    Thanks, Deb!

Denise, you are SO RIGHT. And the thing is, when I am working at home, the doorbell rings all the time. If it isn't MY UPS man, it's my husband's UPS man!  ;-)

Eliza, thank you. Do you know, I agree with you about the proportions of the shorter shorts on me...and so does DH? But I feel it's a bit age inappropriate to go out in them. Maybe I should just get over that. I also agree about the white button down -- it makes me LOOK crisp even if I am melting (which I am in some of those pictures!) \

Jeanne, laughing about your husband, but that was me, too, before YLF!

Thank you Caro, Firecracker, Day Vies!

Suz, with those colors and silhouettes you look as crisp and cool as a cucumber!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You look wonderful in all of these. I love the buttondown shirts with shorts and envy your being able to wear them together now. It is too hot for sleeves here for at least another month.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Joy, I am feeling lucky because this year we have only had one real heat wave for about a week or 10 days. We may be on the edge of another one now, but I have to confess it has not felt like a real summer to me! Usually I am sleeveless all the way in summer.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Long sleeves and shorts feels California style (cools off at night, warm days) to me and I love it. We are having cooler temperatures this summer but the high humidity keeps even those days steamy. I should try this for over AC places though. My beloved buttondowns don't get enough wear. They are usually not warm enough for winter.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

    Suz, thanks for posting these!
Just like Joy's recent Summer uniform looks, these are so inspirational to me!
BTW- your knees look absolutely show-worthy.
I find that button-down shirts are so flattering to your long neck and short hair too.

  • Betti replied 10 years ago

Great looks! Don't be shy about wearing the shorter shorts away from home, you have great legs!

A presentable at-home style is something I try to achieve but I get too messy (gardening, cooking, painting). Your photos are great inspiration for me though.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Thanks for posting your casual outfits! I love button down shirts, and I think you look fantastic in these. I know what you mean about the age thing and the shorter shorts, but I think that length looks good on you - it isn't too short at all.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

All are quite fab, crisp and polished, but definitely casual.  #2 is extraordinary, I think.  It has polish, but is both bright and soft.  Love it!

And yes, thank you for posting your real life!

  • jayne replied 10 years ago

I am just in awe with how crisp and chic you look in your work at home, shorts, summer outfits.  I finally realized that crisp is something I aspire to.  I am definitely going to try and use these as a guide!

  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago

You rock the smart casual shorts look, Suz! My favorite is probably #2, but I also love the shirts and your green/blue top. I have a big shorts hole in my wardrobe, but you've made me think that "next year, then ..." I would love to find a white shorts like yours. The shorter lenght is fab on you, too, and I would wear those outside the house, too if I were you.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

My goodness Suz, you weren't going to post these? I am showing my bias but for me this is my favorite kind of post - outfits that I totally relate to and might want to copy! Wow, where to begin? I love them all so I will compliment your lipstick! It really adds polish to your look (can you tell I am trying to become a lipstick person?)

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

You wear smart casual shorts outfits very well!  My favorite is the printed green top, because it has a lovely drape to it, and those microcheck shorts (what a fun print that is, yet still subtle enough to mix another print with them).

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

I'd be SO disappointed if you didn't post these Suz - they all look fantastic to me. Not sure I can pic a favorite but I do love a white button down. #2 is such a great white outfit with interest.  I'm very glad to have some other  YLF'ers who dress casually much of the time, otherwise I wouldn't really be able to contribute much.

  • replied 10 years ago

Love these Suz! I wear similar options all summer but I like your versions a lot and have made notes to copy :)

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

You look great! If I worked from home I would probably wear boxer shorts and t-shirts all day. I'm impressed that you look so put together.

  • nancylee replied 10 years ago

Awesome looks, Suz.  You are my summer casual idol!

  • cobaltblue replied 10 years ago

Well, I'd be proud to go out in your stay-at-home ensembles. You look great - I love the long, white shorts and the buttondowns.
