WIW: Debombshelling a pencil with a chunky knit

Just in time for Angie's blog post, here's today's look.

I am wearing:

Gap cable knit sweater (a mere $8.99 on sale!)
Ann Taylor silk leopard print shirt (for which I splurged and paid full price)
Suede pencil skirt (from consignment, $7 plus a small alteration fee to narrow it)
Hue tights
Siebel booties

And because I promised to add this for the winter, the coat shot: VC colorblock pea coat.

Though I am a bit leery with my short legs wearing booties and bright tights, this nevertheless feels very "me." Happiness factor a 10.

Thank you for looking and comments & critiques welcome.

It's a bit dark today so you may not see a lot of detail, esp. with the coat. Grrrr.

Love it! A perfect illustration of Angie's post today!
I'm not usually a fan of bright tights, but these are perfect with this outfit.

I love the combination of pattern and textures with the leopard blouse, the suede skirt and the cable knit.

    Outstanding!

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

In fact I think you are looking quite 'tall' in this wiw! love the textures and colors.

I love it. The bright tights work because they are balanced by the sweater, IMHO, and this is the only way I would ever consider wearing them.

I think you look great, as always. I've always walked right past the colored tights, but after seeing this I might have to try it myself!

Thanks, all! I noticed in the blog post this morning it was bare legs and pumps with most of these looks.

But where I live that would be sort of nutty. You wouldn't want (or be comfortable wearing) a cable knit if it were warm enough for bare legs! I can't go out comfortably today without tights.

But i am wondering if showing a bit more skin makes the look work better. It's not a possibility for me (except by a sleeve scrunch, which I CAN do). But I was curious anyway.

I am planning some kind of hosiery with mine. I think once you replace the pumps with boots, bare legs seems incongruous. (I happen to have berry Hue cable tights in a very similar color I can't wait to wear actually!)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I love the concept, Suz! It's so fun to see you wear this vibe!! What a treat!

You could also leave off the button down shirt and scrunch the sleeves. That would look extra modern to my eye. You look KILLER in this shade of cranberry.

I'd have preferred to see sheer black hose - more chic if that makes sense.

It's a GREAT outfit combination for you :)

Visual appeal - 10. Love you in bright tights & chunky knit.

Great look Suz! This color is superb on you!
The only thing which gives me a pause is the shirt tail sticking under the sweater. I usually really like this look but somehow it has a jarring note for me here. But of course it is just my personal thing :-)

Cute outfit! I like the colored tights! I like to wear colored tights in the winter because it's fun and I get tired of wearing black, brown and grey tights after awhile.

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Suz, I love this! Personally I rather like the colored tights buts that's just my 2 cents!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Thanks, all!

Angie, yes - I think I will try it another time with the sheer tights. But as Sara says, I get SO SICK of wearing black black black all the time. And today is a sort of casual day. So I decided to try the coloured ones. But I'm going to take the shirt off before I go out, not least because I don't want it to get wrecked at the hairdresser's.

Sveta -interesting point about the shirt tail. I tried it both ways and liked it better here showing, but I would wear it the other way as well.

    Beautiful sweater!

Where was I when Gap had those sweaters?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Love Angie's suggestions for tweaking this outfit for you Suz - that cranberry colour is just amazing on you.

  • cciele replied 11 years ago

You know, I've never thought of you as having short legs Suz! This is a great silhouette for you and the color is so good -- rich, seasonal, complementary. Love the matching tights :D

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Very cute and very cool! The bright legs work and I see you are wearing the JS booties, I find they hug the ankle nicely allowing more leg options.
Your AT shirt was totally worth the price. It brings the whole outfit up a notch, just by peeping through.
    I love your coat.

  • Kat replied 11 years ago

The color of the sweater is gorgeous on you and I quite like the tights. I think they give a different vibe than black legwear would, both really great, just different.
I see absolutely no stumpification in these photos, just lovely styling and shapely legs.
Looking forward to further iterations of this ensemble!

I love it with the shirt peeking out! That sweater is such a great find. I wonder if that would be a good color on me? (I know we are similar in build, not sure about hair/complexion?) Some burgundies don't work on me.

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

So fun! I love the colored tights. I always want to try them but end up chickening out. That cranberry color is awesome on you. Great de-bombshelling!

Your proportions look great with the bright tights and booties. I think you look adorable in everything but this outfit is particularly fab. That deep red is one of your best colors. I remember being green with envy over your gorgeous red coat last winter. :)

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thanks! I took off the shirt and am wearing it with scrunched sleeves. But left the coloured tights. May I just say I LOVE my VC coat?? It is so much fun to wear.

Denise I think you are more fair than I. You are a true blonde. I look best in deeper tones than one might expect and have been called a true summer.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

I love that colour on you too.

  • KathyL replied 11 years ago

The color looks great on you. I'm generally not a fan of colored tights but you and Sona are changing my mind. I love the booties with the tights (taking notes on how to style mine when the weather cools enough for tights!!) I think your legs look great!!

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

It's funny, but I never think of you as short. You always look tall in your pictures! I love that color on you and am jealous of your new coat!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Psst. Jem...it's probably at a Winner's near you if you want one. At a VERY reasonable price!!! It's fun, easy, and great to wear.

I'm not super short, but on the verge of petite at 5'4" (on a good day) and my legs are also on the verge of being proportionately short for my height. Plus, with my other proportions, they actually LOOK shorter than they actually are (despite the fact that I am short waisted...go figure!) It's all down to the problem of having a big head, I figure. ;-)
