WIW: Flared legs with trendy top

I tried a dressier version of this look last week.  Today I decided to dig out my only flared jeans and join the Amber Sun parade for a more casual take as per Angie's blog post.

These jeans get little love from me, but I'm surprised by how comfortable they are, and the weather is absolutely perfect for them today -- bright, sunny, no hint of muck on the roads. The only problem is that they're just a touch too long for these Donald Pliner booties so I don't think I can actually wear them outdoors this way.

Jeans: GAP Long and Lean
Sweater: Amber Sun
Belt: one of those cheapie made-in-China ones
Shoes: Donald Pliner

Gorgeous! Love the pointy boots and animal print belt. Fab version of Angie's formula :)

  • merwoman replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous silhouette! Grrr regarding heel height; what about your stuart w booties?

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

    Killer

You nailed it, pretty Suz. xo

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

    And pop over your peacoat.

  • replied 10 years ago

    You look fabulous.

I absolutely LOVE THIS OUTFIT! And I actually think the length of the jeans is spot on - I just got my boot cut jeans hemmed to this length. They just touch the ground and have a break in the front. Love the leg lengthening that gives us "height challenged" gals.

  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago

Oh dear. You are beyond fabulous, yet so relaxed and effortless chic. I love the flared jeans on you, and the belt is beautiful combined with that gorgeous sweater. Well done!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Thank you, Kind Ladies. :-) All I do is follow Angie's guidelines. That makes it easy!

Angie -- too warm for my pea coat today but I will wear it in November with the peacoat for sure! And for now I am not complaining about our unseasonably warm temperatures. I can wear my Ann Taylor military detailed blazer instead.

Merwoman, the SW booties are about the same heel height - 2.5 inches or so. These pants were hemmed for 3 inch heels. This is one reason bootcuts are so tricky. You have to commit to your footwear in advance!

  • Mo replied 10 years ago

Wow - your legs look miles long in these jeans.  Great look.

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

Fabulous! You just need to get another pair if booties that are a smidge taller , right? (Says the happy enabler)

  • replied 10 years ago

    Wow! This looks great.

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

Fab rendition, Suz! I know what you mean--I was just about to toss out some Eddie Bauer bootcut black pants, and then I tried some newer tops,  and so am keeping, for now.

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

Suz, this is new silhouette on you and I love it. The whole outfit feels so free-spirited, perfect mix of lady-boho and suits you perfectly. I love the choice of belt.

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

I love it! Everything is just right.

  • replied 10 years ago

Dang, but don't you look fine, woman! I love that sweater! Those jeans look pretty and refined, even if they are a tich too long to wear on the street right now. (Try them again after a big lunch, heh.) That belt looks rich and expensive from where I sit, and I love the way it ties in the tones from your beautiful blonde locks. Happy Thanksgiving!

    Looks perfect YLF!

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

Wow, Suz. You jumped on the wide-legged ensemble and hit it out of the park. Love it.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Another winner, of course! Is it worth taking the hem up just a smidge?

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

Wow I love this outfit! The proportions are perfect. That really is a great sweater; I can see why so many fabbers grabbed that one.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Stop making me want flares, Suz!  You are so right about the weather needing to cooperate for this look.  Can't be rainy, snowy, muddy or dusty.  Hooray for convergence!

  • replied 10 years ago

Really nice, love those jeans on you.  Great choice on the belt.

  • Dottie replied 10 years ago

You look great!  I love the colors and this type of outfit.  It's just about my uniform.  The Long and Leans are my favorite jean.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

    Fab Suz.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 10 years ago

I am detecting that skinnies are losing ground to wider legs and am feeling happy about it.  The jeans look great and I love the color block sweater.  Great colors for you.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

I am SO happy to see those booties in action (patting myself on the back for enabling you :-) )
    Looks good, Suz!
This is my biggest problem with flares - heel height and weather appropriateness.  I love the look but very often bypass them for the weather sake of because heels will not do...:-(

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

    Gorgeous look :)

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You need to wear this outfit! It's fabulous on you. I especially like the colors on you and with the belt and dark denim, and the pointed toes peeking out.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Thanks, everyone, and thanks, especially to Angie. I love these ensemble posts. It's a fun challenge to try to recreate them on the day or very soon thereafter.

To go outdoors I switched out the booties for the DV Joust. Not pointy toed so not as fashion forward, but still not hopelessly passé, I hope. And the perfect height for the jeans!

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

I don't think I've ever seen you in flares. I LIKE! I also love how you slipped pattern in on the belt. I just bought a similar one (ideas abound!). In full disclosure I have a poison eye for violet and red together however I love it with the belt both play off that patterned neutral very nicely. More of Suz's playful side -- lovely!

  • Carole replied 10 years ago

Stellar, Suz! I have a pair or Long and Leans in my closet. Thanks for the inspiration to get them out and put them on! Well done.

  • LoveSarahDub replied 10 years ago

I'm DYING over that top!!! And those jeans look GREAT on you! Flares definitely flatter you! Love!

  • MsLuna replied 10 years ago

Love this combination and love the colours on you!

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

You nailed it! Your legs look miles long in this outfit. Super fab!

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

Oh Suz, I adore this outfit on you too. Re the risk of getting muddy hems, remember how Elizabeth Bennett walks across the fields to Netherfield to visit her sister and muddies her skirt? The Bingley ladies are shocked at her display of "an abominable sort of conceited independence, a most countrytown indifference to decorum."
The blokes on the other hand think she looks great, shining eyes, pink cheeks etc.
    Love it.
So if you muddy your flares you can claim it is a literary allusion.
Amber Sun - what is that about?

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

You know I will be copying this next Autumn Suz.
I purchased a silk/wool long sleeved Tee. in very similar shade recently.
These colours would look great with grey or burgundy booties too.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

    OMG! Just fab!!!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Penny, that is such a fun allusion! Thank you for the reminder. It's an honour to be compared to Miss Elizabeth Bennett!

"Amber Sun" is the maker of the sweater - the manufacturer's name. Many of us bought it at the NAS sale -- so I am an Amber Sun octuplet (or more) and quite a few posted outfits with it in the last few days: Janet, Thistle, Mochi -- others, too, I believe. It's a nice lightweight fall transitional piece for when the days are cooling off but not too cool.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. And thanks to Angie as always for inspiring us.

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

    FABULOUS!

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous outfit, these flares look lovely on you.  I try to sport my bootcut jeans as often as possible on our dry days because I know the wet mucky weather is coming.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

You look great in flares! I hear you on the difficulty of committing to a heel height, though. That's probably my biggest problem with wearing them. Nice job on Angie's ensemble.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Ah, yes, jean drag!  My mother detested frayed jean hems, which were everyone during my childhood in the '70's.   In the 90's we just all wore them all too short!

Well, the reason we still wear flares is because they look so amazing!  I love this on you, Suz.  Please wear again!  The colors in the sweater are so fresh and fun, and so nice near your face.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Fabulous from the ground up - those are the perfect points with the flares. Sweater is a complete winner too!

  • Asingh replied 10 years ago

YLF, Suz! The animal-print belt adds interest to the outfit.
