WIW: Flared skirt with "cropped" pullover

Okay, so the "cropped" is a slight exaggeration -- this is a banded sweatshirt that I've sort of folded under, but. A girl's gotta use what she's got, right? Does it work? Heading out for lunch with Mr. Suz's cousin and partner who are unexpectedly in town.

Coolish day with rain in the forecast; will be adding a trench.

Sweatshirt: Banana Republic
Skirt: ancient, one of the oldest pieces in my closet -- Comrags
Navy booties: Zara
Bag: Ralph Lauren

    STOP IT!

You have to wear this on the YLF cruise. :)  You look absolutely AMAZING.  You gotta do something more than lunch in this ensemble!

Lovely! You have what Angie was calling just enough structure to feel/be attractive! A completely successful outfit. Are those tights or nylons?

  • replied 10 years ago

    Love this on you!

  • shedev replied 10 years ago

    So cute on you.

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

    I LOVE it.

    FAB-U-LOUS!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

    One word - PERFECT!
I also tried our polka dot pullover with a flared skirt and it works too if you pull it up so the band rests on the top of the hips with some slouch. Try it!

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

I have to agree, it's perfect! And, also blue:-) (and just saw them, your writersfest's oufits were worth a million bucks, too:-))

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

    Oooh! Thank you! [blushing]

We had a great lunch. And I felt comfy and fun.

I am wearing nylons -- sheer black. Just what I had in the drawer. I actually could have gone bare-legged (it's warm enough now) but when I went out earlier this morning it felt too cool for that. So....this was how I did it today.

Sveta, thanks for the tip! I don't think my taupe sweater goes with either of my two flared skirts, but maybe with some careful styling it would work after all. I will experiment to find out!

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

Simply gorgeous, Suz!  What color is the skirt?  Black or Navy?  I'm glad you mentioned the nylons, because I was curious. :)

Are the Zara ink boots feeling better on you?  I ask, because I tried them on and the toe box was tight and yet my heel came up and I figured this beautiful boot wasn't a good fit for me, but I loved trying it on.

    Enjoy your lunch, Suz!

    Just Gorgeous !!!!

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

    Beautiful!

Send some of that cool, rainy weather our way, will you? I'm dying to wear some booties and jackets down here! :-D

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Suz, I would be very surprised if your taupe sweater will not go with this black skirt. Donn't you pair taupe with black? And if you don't you should becasue they works together beautifully! See here and here (love this sweater btw)

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

As has already been established, this is super fab!  Love the pop of the bright blue bag!

  • jayne replied 10 years ago

perfection Suz.  I love how you show the way!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Sveta, thank you for those links!

You are right -- I can wear the skirt with the taupe sweater. I might need to get a bit creative to work in the pink dots. And bookend with my footwear.

    Vicki, the skirt is black.

The navy Zara booties fit me the way you describe -- on my first two wears. And I got some nasty blisters from them. But I am pleased to say they have broken in and I wore them today very comfortably. The nylons helped, I think -- just less friction.

Janet, it turned out that the weather got a lot warmer as the day went on! So tonight I am bare-legged!

Very cool!  What a great idea for styling this sweater!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Wowza! I like how the bright bag lightens it all up too!

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

You nailed this, Suz. Looks great!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

    This looks great.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Thanks for showing us how to work this ensemble Suz - It really helps me to see it on a person.  And this makes me realize that I have the pieces to try it too!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Suz, don't you fuss about pink dots. Remember my pink trousers - I like them with black too!
    Just try it! :-)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

    Soooooooo beautiful :)

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

You look amazing! Love the outfit and you look radiant as well- must be the high happiness factor. You wear it all beautifully. The boots are gorgeous. How do you find their comfort quotient?

    You are inspirational!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

    Thank you all!

Eliza, the boots were not at all comfortable for the first few wears. They were stiff, and I got blisters because my heels are narrow and they rub up and down a lot. (And I stupidly wore without socks!) But they've broken in after only two wears and now I find them perfectly fine. They are a bit stiffer and heavier than I might prefer and I wouldn't call them 18 hour, 10 to 12 mile shoes, but they're fine for a day of ordinary walking.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Ooh la!  You make this silhouette sing!  Thanks for roadtesting this look, Suz.  I'm looking forward to trying something like it myself!

  • Jeanie replied 10 years ago

My favorite look on you! That is a night out one the town look.  Just love the blues and the blacks with a bit of shimmer.   It reminds me of the light hitting the lake at night but with a pretty smile.

  • MsLuna replied 10 years ago

Love the texture contrasts. Shiny and matte together! You look fab!

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

    Just one word ........ Love!!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Wow, thank you, everyone! I have discovered it is so much fun to try out Angie's formulas with what I have in the closet. I have a few more variations of this silhouette I'd also like to try.

Jeannie, if you are not a poet, I think I see a new opportunity for you. Warning: poets do not make money. But the happiness factor of the work is high. ;-)

  • anne replied 10 years ago

Suz you look great. And great to actually see the outfit on a person. I love your sweater The top isn't very voluminous really, is it? I think that helps

    Did it stay folded under?

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Anne, the top is not voluminous, exactly, but it is definitely not fitted. Fluid fit. I did stay folded under just fine throughout the day. I had to adjust when I went to the bathroom. But otherwise it stayed more or less put without fuss.

I find this usually is the case. But it works most easily with tops that have a band or welt at the bottom, as this one does. That already reins in the volume to a degree. Plus, it's not super long. It hits at my hip if it's not folded under.

Still, I managed to do it with several linen tees and sweaters that are unbounded during the summer and it worked fine.
