WIW: Grey, Lilac, Black

Welcome inspiration, Angie! Thank you!

I must admit this is an INDOOR outfit today. I could not wear these trousers outside given our weather. But I have online meetings all afternoon, so it is fine for the purpose. And if I decide to go out, maybe I can wear #2, instead -- that's an outfit I put together earlier this year, flipping the colour scheme a bit.

Theory, oh Theory -- why did you change your cut and fabrications? I love these Emery wide leg pants, so comfy, so soft, so easy. They almost feel like pajamas. So wearing them to work at home is absolutely fine. They may look black but they are actually charcoal grey.

My "lilac" IRL is closer to radiant orchid. I do look good in deeper lilacs (not the super pale pastel versions, however). But this orchid is one of my best colours, period. You had better believe I will be on the lookout for items in this colour in the spring.

Please excuse my squinting eye. My eyes are increasingly asymmetrical anyway, but also I have something wrong with my contact lens this morning.

Black booties: Stuart Weitzman Step (my game changer wardrobe purchase last year. Still loving them. Whoot!)

Charcoal Trousers: Theory Emery

Snake print belt: Michael Kors

Orchid shirt: BR

Grey sweater: Zara

Amethyst earrings (you can't see) and silver cuff.

    Lovely, Suz!

When I saw the Angie's color combo, you were the first person I thought of. Sure enough, here you are looking fab.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

So incredibly gorgeous Suz! Those Theory trousers are pure magic on you and I hope the fit and fabrication returns one day so you can buy more.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

Love, love, love!  You look fab, Suz!  This color palette really is you!!

  • E replied 10 years ago

You look gorgeous and sophisticated and very long legged; that's definitely a wonderful colour and silhouette on you. So interesting you wear shoes indoors! I grew up in a no-shoes family, and it always feels a bit strange to even be wearing them on my carpet for outfit pics.

I see no squintiness, but I hope your contacts sort themselves out soon. That sounds painful! (I still remember my horror when I was little & my mom got contacts & explained them to me, with me thinking the whole time 'you're putting GLASS in your EYE?!,' picturing shards of it a la "The Snow Queen." ;) )

  • replied 10 years ago

Heh I bet that Suz doesn't normally wear shoes indoors too :) Whenever you see me wearing shoes at home inside it is because I put them on for the photo!

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

Looking fantastic! I esp love the silky collar and cuffs peeking out of your gray sweater :)

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

Great outfits!  I love the lilac peeking out from under the grey sweater.  The skirt and scarf outfit looks great also.

The only reason I have shoes on in my photos is that I take them right before I walk out the door.

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

All outfits are absolutely fabulous! I just love this color combination.

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

Now that was quick to implement Angie's formula!
It's a natural for you! You look great in the gray and orchid combination. That first outfit is really fabulous. I like the second one, too, but I keep being drawn back to the first. I think it's because I just love that orchid shade.

    Fab!

  • viva replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous. Just SO gorgeous. I really want to be you on most days, and this is one of them.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I usually wear slippers at home, actually. But they don't look so great in the outfit pics. :)

And sometimes in deep winter when I am not getting a chance to wear my gorgeous booties, I actually DO wear them indoors. Not for the entire day, usually, but right now,  for instance, I still have my Stuarts on. I'll wear them for the afternoon. I won't really be walking much on our hardwood floor (and they have rubberized bottoms anyway yet don't leave marks).

I guess I just feel that if I don't wear them inside I will never get to wear them! And with these pants, I really do need the heel.

Thank you all for the kind comments! I do like these colours.

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

These colours are so perfect on you, Suz. I really love it all!

  • Mo replied 10 years ago

love the whole lot!  great colors together and on you.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

    Perfection!!!

  • merwoman replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous combo on you Suze! I'm particularly loving pic one - something about the crispness of a BD, looks fab!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Yup - Merwoman - I agree. On me, it is good to inject some crisp and sharp  -- the scarf plus fluid sweater is a bit too "soft." I am slowly figuring out all these refinements. ;)

  • E replied 10 years ago

Ceit and Suz, that makes more sense! :) I've yet to find a pair of slippers I love, so my various wool socks play the slipper role. I'm on the look out though.

  • MuseumGal replied 10 years ago

    Suz!  Maximum fabulousness!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Killer Trouser outfit, Suz. The fit on that grey jumper is sublime over the blouse. Nice and Modern. I am wowed by your Katherine and Audrey Hepburn grace. (This looks like such an Inge-Outfit too).

High five. I'm in grey trousers right now - although I'm out and about for most of the day.

  • rute replied 10 years ago

Perfect! Such a chic mix of colors!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Love this combo and would try it myself......but I'm still in loungewear at 11am, cleaning, cooking...........catching up while I'm falling behind!

You are now my inspiration!  I hope you are getting great wear out of those marvelous boots in #2!

  • JulieJohn replied 10 years ago

You look lovely! I would like to see the lilac top paired with your burgundy skirt or your burgundy booties, just for some other suggestions, not that you need 'em.

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

You are fast! This combination looks so pretty on you.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

I love that orchid button down!!!! Awesome awesome awesome!!! I can't stop squealing with excitement!!!

  • replied 10 years ago

wonderful - I agree with Viva - I want to be just like you when I grow up!

  • replied 10 years ago

i mean grow up in the fashion sense of course ...

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

So pretty!  I love the pop of spring color the orchid provides.

  • replied 10 years ago

Suz, you look fantastic! The way you describe the extra structure you get from the BD, I can now see what you mean compared to pic #2. I must say I love both outfits, but I do see and understand the comparison. BTW I do agree about Radiant Orchid, definitely your colour!

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

    LOVE #1!!!!

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Oooh! I love the way your orchid cuffs *pop* out like that, colourwise. Brilliant.

Also, the grey boots look like they fit perfectly at the calf. I'm so impressed (and jealous).

Lastly: you left out the 411 on the most important item... haha, the puffer!

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

SO divine! You look radiant in that shade of purple. Love how promptly you used Angie's color scheme.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

    Ah...thank you!

Diane, I am glad if that description helped a bit. I find it so very helpful when Angie or Inge or other forum members are able to articulate these small details. It has taken me a long time to see these small distinctions for myself, even longer to see them on myself, and longest of all to articulate them -- and I'm still not always able to. Yet when it comes to truly honing a style, I think this is what separates the fashionable from the truly stylish. When you begin to see and feel what works best on your body, and what allows you to shine, you are golden. (Or silver, as the case may be, LOL.)

It still takes a lot of work at times to express it in the clothing. Careful shopping and wardrobe building.

Rachylou -- that puffer coat is made by Lole, the Montreal gear firm.  It is a few seasons old now (3?) and still as good as new -- with pretty much constant daily wear for 3 to 4 months a year. They don't have the same coat anymore but it is similar to this one

  • Gracie replied 10 years ago

What a soft and gorgeous combination – I loooove the fit of the pants. I have a couple of trousers with a similar cut and I wish I could find some more in other colors, but, nowhere to be found right now within my price range.  The pops of color at the cuffs and collar look so playful, I bet it's nice to see your orchid cuffs in action while typing.

  • Alassë replied 10 years ago

I should have known you'd have your formula version up presto! Great job/very Urban Prince, Suz! You have such a lovely, cohesive style. And yes, your legs look very long in those trousers. Enjoy orchid for me!

  • AviaMariah replied 10 years ago

    Great job.  Definitely your color!

  • pil replied 10 years ago

The orchid is glorious on you. Such beautiful pieces and combinations. Are those the second pair of La Canadienne boots? I can't recall what the ultimate resolution was with those.

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

The lilac shade glows on you, Suz!  You look lovely.

  • Elizabeth P replied 10 years ago

    Wow, that was fast!
Really nicely done Suz, you shine in this colour.

    (and what's BD? )

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Great peek of color from the shirt as the bottom layer in #1.

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

So pretty Suz!  I love outfit #1 - that blouse is a beautiful color on you!  Do they still have them at BR?  You look lovely!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

I'm studying these beautiful outfits and am in awe of your wisdom and skills with your wardrobe. I'm wearing a similar loose pullover today...actually a man's left behind by DS. What it needs is that bit of structure provided by your button down!

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

I was also trying to figure out why I liked #1 over #2 & see you've already done so. Your outfits are fab & I love to read about your fine-tuning :)

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Way to shop that closet! The orchid looks awesome on you.

  • Ariadne replied 10 years ago

So beautiful--simultaneously soft and strong. I love the grey and orchid together.  Too bad those pants aren't made anymore.  They're perfect on you.

  • Greyscale replied 10 years ago

I love the loose sweater over the purple shirt. Great combo.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

More love from me here too! I really like the fit of that grey sweater on you, tempered fluidity at its best. And of  course the Theory trousers are sublime.
Let's be on the lookout for radiant orchid together this year: this is one of my best colors too!

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Wow, this is such a gorgeous color palate on you, Suz! I love all variations. And those Theory pants fit you perfectly - I am so jealous! Dress pants just never seem to fit me.

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

love the radiant orchid peeking out from the grey sweater, and the flow of the trousers. another stunning outfit

  • In My Joi replied 10 years ago

Fabulous take on the grey, lilac, and black color scheme!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

ooh #1 - I see why you are frustrated that they changed the design of those trousers. You look super!
