WIW: Grey out 1

and...thanks to gryffin.

I know, I know. I already have more than a dozen pairs of jeans. But I wanted a grey pair. What can I say.

gryffin mentioned in a few threads that she was really enjoying her GAP Always Skinny skimmer jeans in grey. So when I went on the GAP website to place an order for some new BF jeans for DD, and saw these were on sale for $25, I jumped. They are barely, barely, barely long enough for me, (and maybe not quite that..) but I think I can get away with it. In warmer weather I can cuff them with high shaft booties or heels. And if they are tucked into boots anyway, who cares, right?

I have been wanting to try a "grey out" -- there will be more than one of these, so prepare yourselves!! This was a simple version for a very snowy day. After the blizzard stopped, the sun came out and it was glorious.

Thanks, gryffin, for the shopping help!

And thanks, Angie, for the ensemble inspiration: casual neutrals with snow boots!

Anyway -- first the snowbound outfit for my long walk, then the snow, then the inside version for this evening.

The jeans fit really nicely, and the sweater is just beautiful! Great outfit.

  • abc replied 9 years ago

So pretty! I almost wore that sweater today but I don't have grey jeans...hmm...

The sky is so blue in your pics. Beautiful.

  • gryffin replied 9 years ago

Wow, Suz, loving it!!  So glad you like the jeans (I bought two extra pr each in black and gray)  These babies are soooooooooooo tdf comfy and they will never come again!!  Because the ankle is so narrow the length did not bother me but I did buy the Uggs Finney boots especially to go with these.  I let the hem flop on top wihich works for me.  Love your shades of gray with the touches of white.  Just uber elegant - a winter pixie meets the elements!!  Just perfection!

Excellent jeans - and they don't look too short at all !  The scenery is pretty - blue sky, open water, clean snow.....:)  Great outdoor bunny, you are.

  • Ingunn replied 9 years ago

Very appropriate and stylish for a winter day, Suz! Of course you needed the grey jeans. They are great. Thank you for sharing the walk, too, it looks fantastic!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Those are great boots, gryffin....wow....now why did you have to show them to me? You have already prompted two (great) purchases this year and now I suspect that Uggs might turn out to a boot I need...oh no! They are a bit pricier than jeans.

I tried the Ugg slippers and really liked them but instead, kept my Merrells (also your recommendation) simply because the Ugg slippers did not stay on my heels. But with a boot, that is not an issue, and their stuff is SO well made and otherwise fit my foot beautifully. Hmmm....

I do really like the grey jeans and I am considering duplicating as well. The grey is a nice soft faded but not overly faded/ distressed on-the-lighter-side-of-mid grey, for anyone who is curious.

Wonderful outfit Suz.  love your new jeans.  I find my grey ones extremely useful and wear them all the time.   I Hope you will find yours the same.
I have been wearing lots of grey myself this week, I will try  to post some of those outfits tomorrow.

    Killer

LOVE your stylish snow boots look, Suz. You are chic, practical and warm. WELL DONE. You do me proud. That white beenie is yummy. So are the cranberry sunnies.

Soooo glad you got grey jeans. You need them. Gorgeous with lavender and white when it warms up.

(SNAP. I am wearing the same jumper and boots with zippered blue skinnies  ink belt, and ink coat today). xo

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

These look better on you than on the model --- the grey is soft and appealing with your coloring and hair, and the pattern in the top adds a little interest to a casual look.

That's one serious puffer!  Love it!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Grey out suits you well, Suz. Nice find with the jeans ( yay griffin! ) - I had to remind myself that I DO NOT need a pair of light grey jeans because my real need is bottoms which go well with BLACK tall boots...

  • shedev replied 9 years ago

Looks good Suz. You look very cozy in your hat and coat.

  • karymk replied 9 years ago

I saw your grey jeans on your picks and was wondering if you got them.  Perfect for you, don't worry about the length at that price.

Is that where you live Suz? In all that beauty?? What a breath of fresh air to just LOOK at it.  I wish we had snow.

  • gryffin replied 9 years ago

Suz - they are fabulously warm and comfortable...just saying ;-)

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Fab jeans! How did I miss a sale like that? I've also been wanting gray jeans.

Is that Lake Ontario in pic 2? How beautiful with the snow. It's been super cold here on my home side of NY state, -10 degrees F (without wind chill) yesterday morning. Brrr...

I have so many pair of those 1969 always skinnies, it's ridiculous.

They are the best fitting skinnies for me, no matter what size I am. And apparently I can change size by the day.  Magic Lisa.  Seriously though, I have them in every wash imaginable, and find them the best jeans ever.  You'd love the lighter blue denims too,  Suz - great colour for you.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Now I think I need a pair of those grey jeans! Why oh why did I open this thread? Because you always have killer WIWs. I like that these are lighter shade of grey. You look fabulous.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 9 years ago

I bought grey skinny pants this year and am loving them.. I can see why you wanted them, they are a great addition...stay cozy warm!

  • carter replied 9 years ago

Love your grey out! I'll look forward to many more. I also bought these based on Gryffin's rave reviews. They are definitely skimmers on me, so they'll have to wait until this ridiculous weather is done. For anyone else thinking of ordering them, I ordered these and the black pair in my regular size. These fit. I had to size up in the black. I also ordered the Tall version of the grey in the hopes of a full length fit. Didn't work. The proportions were really off.

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

    Yay gray! And boot twin!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

    Thanks, all!

Carter, that is really good information. I was just eyeing the black ones... I do think some of it might be GAP's crazy sizing, period. I sized up one size, hoping for a bit of ease. Well, with 2 months of a lot less exercise than usual (and a lot more eating) -- I admit I am up a few pounds. But these fit more or less like my regular size when I first put them on. After a day's wear they are just very slightly slouchy -- what I was hoping for.

Joy, i am chuckling -- I think you need these jeans. Great bookenders for you.

Lisa, I will check out the lighter blue ones, thanks! I have a darker pair (made into shorts after I tore the knee out in a fall a few years ago.) I like that they are not calf-sucking skinny.

Karie, that is Lake Ontario, and Wolfe Island with its windmills behind me.

    gryffin, you enabler, you!! :)

Karen, the snow is gorgeous when it is fresh and new. It was -11 C (about 12 F) so keep that in mind! We get used to it, though...

Sveta, you don't want these jeans -- they are too short for you for sure. So I have just saved you some money!! :)

Beth Ann, we need serious puffers here. For reals. And thank you!

Ingunn, Shedev, thanks to you, too.

Tanya, can't wait to see your outfits -- hope you get a chance to post. I am missing you!

Angie, thank you! I felt as stylish as it is possible to feel in a casual puffer outfit!

I LOVE your grey-out, Suz! Fantastic! So glad you found your grey jeans! My F21's have been a workhorse for me, but are mostly fair weather jeans. My Hudson pair that i just picked up at Costco has been really great as well, and more wearable in the cooler weather. Unfortunately the Gap skimmers don't work on me. The length is just awkward. So glad they worked for you! And I love everything you've paired with it. Look at that gorgeous, crisp, cold weather!! You're set to go!!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Those jeans are fantastic on you. I really want a pair of gray jeans lately, too. (Though I think putty would be a better color for me, if I ever come across them.) And you live in a a stunningly gorgeous place! Sun, snow, and water! I want to be out walking with you there.

  • Golden replied 9 years ago

    Love

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

This looks great and the I love the grey of the jeans.  Very nice:)

  • replied 9 years ago

Of course those jeans were a need! They look fabulous. I do love the sweater with them and what a fab puffer! You look awesome in your outdoor outfit. Thanks for sharing the lovely snowy photo too.

  • Rubygirl replied 9 years ago

Very nice! Love the grey jeans. The jeans paired with the shirt is perfection. I agree with Beth Ann that the jeans look better on you than the model. Love your scarf too. I am a big scarf girl.

I must check out the Gap. I got myself a pair from ON a few months back. We do have a Gap here so I might check them out. I would need to check the sizing before I would order. You have inspired me.

It looks like you got about as much snow as we did. I attempted a walk to work yesterday but got about halfway there and hopped on the bus. The blowing snow on the sidewalks was just too much to push the walker through. I did get an upper body workout though so not all bad I guess. I certainly am feeling it this morning. :)

Have a great day and stay warm!

Off to do some laundry and cleaning etc. Then going out for lunch and shopping with a girl from work. I am going to go and try on the coat today. I did order it but it is a size larger than the store has but they have the size in the purple and the smaller one in the teal. Plus it was only 45.00 yesterday and they will honour it for me. Bonus.

Amazing jeans! I love grey jeans - I find the casual and faded look really cool all year round. Love how you mixed it with the floral sweater and silver(?) belt. The outdoor version is super cute. Gorgeous shades! Love the light in the outdoor pic with ski traces and windmills(!) in the background.

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

Gray- out is great! That's a good inspiration to think about tonal light neutrals other than white/ cream. I'm more likely to achieve that. Thanks for showing and giving ideas!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thanks again. Yes, unfrumped, I liked the idea of other light neutrals, too -- I have done it with taupe and wanted to try grey since I actually have more grey in my closet -- but had no lighter grey pants.

Harmonica, the belt is snakeskin, but after I wore it I thought my silver one might have looked better!

ruby, really glad you ordered that coat!

Diane, Debs, Jackie, Golden, Sharan -- thank you!

  • goldenpig replied 9 years ago

Love the grey-out! Great job making all grey interesting! Love the sweater on you--I tried that one and it just was too low contrast for my coloring, but you absolutely glow in it! By the way, I have those Ugg Finneys and can vouch that they are really comfortable and versatile. I wear them all the time!
