WIW: Grey Statements

I have barely left the house in three days. The sickness continues. To amuse myself I sleep, drink ginger tea, pet the cat, and read YLF.

Here are a few more statement sweater outfits. All feature new (and older) pieces.

I ordered J. Crew's toile sweatshirt because I am a sucker for the pattern. It will probably work better with a skirt because of its slightly cropped length, but I can also layer it over a shirt. Super comfy.

Also, I wore layered greys to feed my step-daughter's cats the other day (the extent of my travels). But I think I should have worn pants instead of leggings, taking a look at this photo.

Today I have on the cheetah print sweater I bought for my daughter's birthday at last year's NAS. It is now too small for her (partly because she threw it into the regular wash and her father was not paying attention!!! ) so I have nabbed it.

You look adorable as always! Hope you feel better soon.

  • Meredith replied 9 years ago

Sweatshirt sister! I bought one two weeks ago. I think the fact that the toile sweatshirt is cropped actually forces it to be styled in a slightly more edgy way. A good thing with such a classic pattern in my opinion. So sorry you've been under the weather, but you sure look great!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

That sweatshirt looks fantastic on you, Meredith! I love how we both chose distressed denim with it!

Confession: I got the sweatpants, too.  ;)

NOT to wear together. Obviously.  Well, except to make Mr. Suz laugh, maybe.

  • Meredith replied 9 years ago

What? I didn't know there were sweatpants!!!!!!!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

    Yup. And on sale!!

Warning, they would not work if you are really tall unless you size up. I ordered XS and on me they are the right length, and I'm only 5'4" and not long legged. But they are SUPER comfy and weirdly flattering and I plan to style them like upscale sweatpants once I recover my fashion moxie and my health.

They have zippers on the bottom, which is a nice touch, taking them up a notch.

  • Meredith replied 9 years ago

Drat. Sized out! I will live vicariously through you. Can't wait to see your sporty lux styling,

  • replied 9 years ago

Grey is certainly nice on you Suz. I love the BR cardigan - looks like a good useful piece. The JCrew toile is really fun -and I am looking forward to seeing how you style the pants!   Hope this flu or cold is gone soon - I feel for you xo

You stunning and gorgeous person - who looks THIS good and pulled together at home sick, wearing grey.

I vote Killer to the power of Killer.

    Feel better soon. xo

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

WOW. Angie. That should make me better in no time!!

    Thank you!!

    :)

And let's hope those Ks are K to germs!!!!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

I am sorry to hear you are still under the weather - drink more of that ginger tea and get well soon!
You rock light grey color, you really do. I remember the cheetah sweater :-) - how funny that it is yours now.
I am weirdly attracted to that cropped sweatshirt but light grey is not my color (unless it is dove). Did you get your size or sized up?

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

ETA, it is sort of funny, isn't it. I feel about grey the way I also feel about black -- there is all too much of it in a winter around here.

For those who don't know, I live in the "limestone" city, and super pretty tourist photos notwithstanding, the water, sky, roads, and buildings are ALL grey for at least six months of the year. Which means that I can tire of grey quite seriously after a while and there is a reason I love my red coat!

Yet grey is also flattering to me and one of my best neutrals. I can wear most cooler versions, from charcoal to slate to heathered mid-grey to soft dove.

    There's a reason I like patterned pants, I suspect....

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

I got my size in it, Sveta, And I really like it. It might actually work on you. I would call it almost a lilac grey. Quite an unusual colour in fact. And it is quite light.

  • replied 9 years ago

It looks so much different on you than it does on Meredith. It is so much more cropped on her, yet on you it hits right at your waistband on your jeans.  I had it  in my cart to buy, (with the current disc code it's all of $24) but when I saw how cropped it is on her, I worried I could never wear it.   I love the print so much!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Well....I'm 5'4". It does hit more or less at the waistband of these jeans, but they are mid-rise.

I think Meredith's taller than me, but it's also being pulled up by the angle of her arm. It is loose and boxy so it moves like that when you move around. I wore a camisole underneath mine.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Suz, which size did you get compared to merino tunic we both have?
I think merino tunic in XL fits me as yours.

Also - can you layer it over a shirt?

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Suz, these are all such great outfits. I'm with Angie--can't believe you look so terrific when you're not feeling well. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one flummoxed by the legging/pant issue at times (and I appreciated your thoughts about the issue on my thread). I think your outfit looks great in the photo, and I also understand your impulse to question yourself. I clicked on your Find and saw the cool faux-leather panels on the leggings. I thought the placement was kind of odd, though--they would be mostly covered up, the way we typically wear leggings, right? Still, they are really nice.
I love your toile sweatshirt (and sweatpants, which I look forward to seeing you wear)! Glad to see your moto boots, too. I love the tough element they add.

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

So sorry you're not back to 100% healthy yet, take care. I love all your grays, specially the long cardi, it looks so cozy layered with the other sweaters - fab!

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

I love the grey on you but understand how you would need to wear colour if your days were grey. Hope you are soon feeling as well as you look :) :)

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

    Both are xs, Sveta.

I will put a photo up in a sec.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

    Sveta, here it is layered.

Please forgive lack of makeup and (sssshhhhh.....lack of UNDIES). I whipped off my PJs and put it on so you could see

Boxy tux shirt underneath, not terribly well adjusted.

It has a slight hi-low to it, which you can see from the side. This highly unflattering photo makes my bust look even smaller than it is, and my tummy larger. I do not think that's how things look IRL -- the camera is pointed directly at my tum and angled a bit strangely but I did not have the wherewithal today to fix it.

Note: It probably looks shorter on Meredith also because she has a larger bust than I do (not difficult to achieve). Also, it has very long sleeves. So for tall women that would be nice and even for short me it gives a slightly different vibe. Even worn scrunched.

Main point, Sveta, it is definitely boxy enough to layer over. Does not feel bunchy.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

ETA: thanks for all the well-wishes, friends. And Sharan, you are right about the leather detail on the leggings. But it does show if you wear your sweaters as short as the tipped one, LOL. ;)  It also shows when you move and sit down, which is nice.

  • E replied 9 years ago

Feel better soon! I love grey, so obviously I love these outfits. ;) That new sweatshirt is so neat!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Suz, you are the best - and being sick at that putting it all on and taking pictures for me <hugging you, germs and everything>.
Hmmm, I still think XL may be too big even though I had tunic in this size. I will risk L I think  - I really like it. I think it will work well with my culottes,
    Thank you darling!

  • Isabel replied 9 years ago

Holy cow !!!!!!  You look...well, I don't have words.  Just amazing.  You just get better and better at this.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

I think L will be plenty big for you in this. The shoulders are slightly dropped which makes it feel roomier. And the price is low so it is worth the risk.

  • Sara L. replied 9 years ago

I hope you start feeling better soon.  I love that cheetah sweater layered under the long cardigan.  Great look!  #1 is really good too with the silver belt and patterned top.

I agree with Angie about how great you look while sick and in grey.  I like grey and it's not as bad on me as soul-sucking beige but it's not a great color either.  I would probably look dead if I tried to wear it while sick.

  • Meredith replied 9 years ago

Suz is correct that I am taller - about 5'9" and wear a c cup. I bought a medium. It is definitely a crop top on my frame. I hope some others will sport the toile!

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

    Feel better!

I love all the looks. Especially the cheetah sweatshirt. Your daughter's loss is your gain! And glad you found your gray cardigan.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

DH is also home sick with a lousy cold - hope you feel better soon Suz. I love the cropped sweater as an alternative silhouette for you, the long sweater remains terrific and great nab on the cat top!

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

I am hitting the 'Like' button to Angie's post :). You look sensational being at home sick! Wow! I like the new cropped sweater. Would look lovely with skirts. Get well soon :)

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Wait a minute....... you bought toil sweatpants?  Hee.  I have to see those!

You look amazing, and not sick at all, in every outfit.  #3 is my favorite.  I think it's the combo of long over short, and the playful print agaiinst the cool, sophisticated grey.

  • qfbrenda replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous! I wish I could look that good while sick. :) I'm a huge fan of gray so those outfits are right up my alley.

  • MsMary replied 9 years ago

    These are all fab!

I want to see the cheetah sweater with the toile sweatpants!  ;)

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Mary, you are on! I also plan to wear the toile sweatshirt with the striped skirt. Big fun! (considering it's all grey, that is...)

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Oh I love the top in #1! It looks good with the silver belt, and would also look good with a shirt layered under. I'd love to get the sweatpants in the same pattern, but with a 28" inseam they would be too short. That seems like an awfully short inseam, even for non-tall gals.

You did really well dressing while you were sick! I shamefully admit that I wore my favorite comfy sweatpants and tees the entire time I was ill, even to go to the doctor's office (hangs head in shame).

Hope you are feeling better today :)

  • Mona replied 9 years ago

You have a quite a capsule going on here. I love these prints in grey/white/black. You wear grey so well. Hope you are feeling better soon.

  • Lynne replied 9 years ago

Lovely, Suz, the greys with silver are great.  FWIW, I like the leggings, they work well with the long cardi.  And I love the layering with the cropped sweater.  Get better soon xo.

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Sorry to hear you are still feeling under the weather Suz.  Isn't it coming up on a week you've been ill?  :(

But... you look ah-mazing!  I'm another one who hangs out in Lulu's and tee's when sick.  Getting dressed would NOT happen.  But it's interesting that you chose all grey for your "sick outfits", a very calming comforting colour.  And you're collecting some great pieces... I bet you'll find this winter less boring than you seem to be anticipating.

PS.  I wanna see you in head to toe patterned sweats :)

  • Carole replied 9 years ago

Sorry your still sick but you look amazing in your outfits! I'm taking special note of your leggings...and they are on sale! Feel better soon!

  • replied 9 years ago

It should be illegal to look so good when one is sick! I love the toille sweatshirt and you were so sweet to help everyone out and take more modelling pics so others could find their correct size. That's just like you, Suz. :)  Hope you're feeling better today.

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

    Oh, love the purloined cheetah.
And toile sweatpants--who'dathunk? I could get into that.
I'm sorry to hear you're sick! 3 days is too long. Feel better soon.

You look really good in cropped and BF styles both. I having sideline envy because those are not working on my long torso.
The grays are working well for you, and I love the color added in the scarf. I'm still enjoying shades of gray but am learning to look for "enlightening" features.
For example, I was certain that charcoal was one of "my" grays but it's too dark. I can take more silvery tones than I thought. Or, some kind of sheen in the fabrication.
